And, of course, the anti-market nuts are already howling.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

OMFG, those dumb fucks.
"A generation ago, our interest in space and the moon was driven primarily by scientific curiosity and an interest in understanding what was out there," said Margaret McLean of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University in California.

"But our voyages of discovery seem to be giving way to voyages of profit, of launching a true 'pay load' to the moon—i.e. a load of anything whatsoever as long as someone pays for it," she said.
If there isn't a profit to be had from the moon, we will never be there again you dumb twit

damn straight... What worries me though is the mention of the extent of US DoS and NOAA interference.

so, as an American citizen, in order to take a trip into orbit on my own vehicle, I have to:

1) apply for a liscense

2) tell the aforementioned agencies where Im going, what Im gonna do once I get there, and why (apparently in excruciating detail). Dammit Im going into orbit, Im gonna do what I want once I get there, and Im going cuz' I WANT to!!! so much for the idea of routine space access in the same vein as private air travel.

3) inevitably grea$e the palms of any number of bureaucratic politco sycophants...

The only way to make money off the Moon with current technology is auctioning moon rocks off, and on location filming of faked alien videos. Even a few thousand pounds of rocks are unlikely to pay for more then part of a booster, and with each sold the value goes down. I doubt selling hoax videos will bring in much either.

For now, "profitably moon mission" is an oxymoron, and until a cheaper method of space travel can be found (perhaps one that could bring the cost of a manned moon mission below the billion-dollar range), it will remain that way.

There is always a whole lot of plans to commercialise space. Only a small number ever take of. I doubt this is one of them.
