Nah, that eclipse is the cell phone blocking out the sun. It does that to anything that's too bright, same thing happens if you take pictures of welding.

Which is kinda bad since when I was looking at it on that day with my own shaded hand over my eyes, it looked mordor red, almost black?

Yeah, I'm gonna go with more than "kinda bad" on that one, Bear. Although if it was tinted red, almost black, it might have been dim enough to not cause immediate damage, so I hope you weren't looking at it too long (although I suppose you would have already noticed if you did suffer serious eye damage ).
