The Plot to save Star Trek

Post by Defiant »

Ok. You're some rich freak who cashed out on the DotCom fiasco. You've got gobs of cash, and you just purchased the Star Trek franchise from Paramount for $1. You want to make another movie. What would the plot be?

The Trial of Katherin Janeway
As picard co* and go despratly try and seek evidance to clear the Admirals name they stumble on the horrors of the past, and while she might be inocent of this charge... what she did in the Deltra quadrent is even worse
Basicly I'd cook up some false charges to get Janeway in Jail, Picard or whoever I want to use runs of to clear here and find out all the bullshit she pulled in the Delta Quadrent making them question should they step in or let her fall only to be brought up on new charages

At the same time I'm brining 8472 back and the Borg will be fleeing for their little lives trying one last desprate assult on Earth as they run out of drones to fling at 8472 they get it in thier mind to sneak a Transwarp conduit into the Sol system so they can make one last suprise attack on Earth and hopefuly get enough Starships and Drones out of the Deal to ward of the 8472 attack
Maybe I can throw in a desus ex machine reason like the weapons Janeway gave the Borg were fake/faulty/designed to fail after they had gotten out of range, Give her one small "smart thing"

So you have the fourway struggle here, 8472 back to its orgional bad-ass reputation looting and pillaging, The Borg needing the Knowledge in Janeway's head of whoever designed the weapons to get them to rebuild them so they can fend off 8472
And Picard and Co running around in the background, And number 4 is my new star, whoever I pick to head up the Next Series of Trek(This is all one big movie to kick that off btw)
A Warship Captian trying to discover a means of defeating 8472
And I'm giving him an Akula to go galavanting around it

Damn, MrBean! That's pretty good! I'll have to come up with a whopper to top that one.

I've been thinking about it for awhile so I decided the best method would be a new movie to cue the new series with our first Warship Comander(As opposed to Pure Explorer or Science Vessel)
So I give him a new class Akula(Russian for Shark), Basicly in my mind, a Upgraded Akira Class, 12 Torp Launchers Double Pumped(Can launch from each tube in under a second but takes 6 Seconds to reload)
And a pair of strip phasers designed as AA support while the torps can take down any ship in the fleet if they all hit

Give them 64 Marines onboard and 220 Total Crewers for a nice sized crew while still staying Relativly clean, Make it LOOK like a Warship, what it will be doing in that series depends on how well the Movie does but I'd definatly have the Holo-Doc transfered onboard(So we have at least one familar face)

The movie is about the Earth - Romulan War, that important mark in ST history. How did it started, how was it fought, how did it ended. The whole conflict in nukes and sublight engines. The ending would be the signing of the Neutral Zone Treaty.
Now, get rid of known characters, this would be a whole new cast, with character growth and conflicts, mistakes WILL have dire consequences, people will behave like they should, no staff meetings, no technobabble solutions... This will be as close to reality as possible, without compromising continuity, ENT not included.
There'll be space battles, ground battles, air battles, a truly gigantic feast to outdo StarWars, or at least try.
We go from the diplomatic and politic maneuvring, down to the guys (and gals) on the ground doing the fighting, from starship captains to the average Joe (and it's Romulan counterpart).

It's a daunting, but necessary, task to retrieve ST from the septic pit in which it dwells now, and give back it's old flame.
If you vote for me, I promise we will wipe out corruption, we will bring justice for all, we will out back what our forefathers wanted our country to achieve.
I have a dream...
Oops! Got a little bit carried away there... Well, basicaly, that's it, people want wars in sci-fi, so we give them, people want conflict (at all levels), we give them, no more of this stale ST bread .

Footage of Berman and Braga being tortured in some distant Siberian gulag.

EDIT: OH, you mean seriously... well, besides the above answer again, I'd say a good movie, with a deliberate pace, and minimal combat. Like Star Trek 6. Hell, get Meyer to do another movie. Turn him loose on the TNG crew (what's left of it).

Sell a stake to Lucas and do a Crossover flick, then hire SDNet denizens to supervise the writers and make sure that the plot and technical details don't suck

I think with the massive amounts of anal sex and orgies that it would not be able to get released in the U.S.

Sure it would, as part of the thriving porno industry's fine products.

Star Trek XI: The Next Penetration.

Mirror-universe Kira invades the main Trek universe with a huge army, conquering DS9, killing Janeway and the entire Voyager crew, and turning Bajor into a giant den of pornography and orgies. She has discovered the Tantalus device which the mirror-universe Kirk once used, which makes her virtually invincible. The men and women of Starfleet know that they cannot possibly engage her forces directly and win, because she can kill off their command crews with her dreaded device. She can even hit delicate warp core instrumentation, causing ships to explode from light-years away.

So they decide that the only way to defeat mirror-Kira is to select their most athletic women and "well-endowed" men to Bajor to pose as porn actors and gain her confidence so they can destroy the Tantalus device.

When they get there, they discover that mirror-Kira has been plugging our Kira up the ass with a strap-on every night, and they try to contact her. But before they can, mirror-Kira decides that they must prove that they are really porn actors, so they must perform for her.

Really, this plot just writes itself.

I'd get the cast's back together from TNG, DS9 and Voyager, and use them to film a series of "wakening up events" in combination with younger doubles. All of those series would be just bad dreams. I'd force the Enterprise cast to have significant plastic surgery while burning all copies of the show, ensuring nothing more of that crapfest can ever be created.

Hehe, I just watched Vanishing Point. It would be nice if they did the final episode like that one.

For those of you who don't know:

$$SPOILERS$$

Hoshi is transported back to the Enterprise, and ends up having something go wrong where her molecules are slowly loosing cohesion and she starts to break up, but first goes invisible. Well, towards the end of the show, she steps back on the transporter pad, and it shows her re-materializing in the Enterprises transporter. Odd thing is, everything is 'back' to normal. Turns out that the entire episode occured during an 8 second time period while she was in the transporter buffer, it was all a dream.

I had a dream where the federation was subverted by a militaristic group similar to the empire. the federation became ultra militaristic and got nice new ships and expanded lots. civil war ensues. in one seen, Sisco (because hes so self righteous) gives on of his "you wont get away with this" speeches to the president of the federation inside the capitol building. the president eventually beams out at the end, and his ship blows up the base of the building, letting it fall from its 1 mile height onto the city below. sisco proceeds to be saved for the civil war, then he dies later on. :)

I would start clean with a new cast and new ship, probably a few years after Voyager's Endgame, with all the new tech.

From there the goal is simple.

JUST MAKE THE SERIES AS GOOD AS HUMANELY POSSIBLE

I'm telling you, my plot for Star Trek XI: The Next Penetration would truly revitalize Star Trek.

Frankly, any serious attempt to revitalize Star Trek is doomed to failure. Can't you just accept that the public is fucking sick and tired of Trek? Too many goddamned movies, too many TV shows, too much bullshit. You can only milk a fucking cow for so long.

Then you gotta blugeon it over the head with a sledge hammer and hack it to pieces for nice fillet mignon and hamburger meat.

What kind of metaphor that is I don't know but I'm getting hungry.

I don't think that's the case or Enterprise would tank. What they do want though is good quality shows not crap. Look at how many of us gave Ent a chance? There is a market for good Trek but all they do is churn out mediocre crap.

It's true that their incompetence plays a big role. Their writing is based on a fear of failing, not a desire to excel. It's driven by things like "market research" and "focus groups" and "demographic targeting".

However, the fact that some people on this board gave it a chance doesn't mean much; we're not exactly typical when it comes to interest in Star Trek. I use coworkers as a gauge of how "normal" people react, and half of them don't even know what the current Trek series is called, what channel it's on, or what day of the week it's on. Do you think an improvement in writing quality would have any effect on that kind of apathy?

There's an old adage in business that it's twice as hard to win back a customer as it is to keep him happy in the first place. Star Trek has simply lost too many customers. It used to be a mainstream thing to like Star Trek; it has now become a marginalized, fringe-society thing.

Has she even watched much of TOS?

With that aside, she sounds very shallow-minded (just stating something that's probably true, no entirely rude offense intended).

Ah, I once talked to someone like that. I changed their mind in one question:

"Describe Captain Archer's personality." Their inability to answer the question after watching a full season of the show instantly changed their mind about the series.

Eh? What *is* his personality? From what I've seen he's like a wannabe Kirk/Picard combination who can't make up his mind. Mind you I haven't seen much, so my impression may not be accurate.

It's still on the air isn't it? I don't know the ratings but they're still good enought to keep the show on air.

I'll agree with you that the general population doesn't give a damn about Trek. But there are enough Trek-fans out there to keep even crap like Enterprise on the air. Frankly, they have the show now they need to work on improving it. If you do create a show with enough appeal and good writing then it can be turned around. They probably won't attract a "normal" audience any time soon but it can be done.

Trek has been marginaized thanks to B&B. It will be difficult to win back the audiences they fucked over but it can be done. There are still enough Trekkies to keep it on the air and if they make real improvements there are people that'd give the franchise another shot.

The chances of this happening are slim to none but it is possible.
