To be fair, The Lonely Island guys are the only ones I've seen who can do comedy rap, and actually look like they understand and appreciate the medium.
Also, they don't try to broadly parody everything in a genre and make fun of very specific elements. Such as the prevalence of boat scenes in rap videos.
Oh yeah, and they are actually p. decent artists when they try.
I wouldn't define The Lonely Island as "nerdcore" because their songs aren't entirely about video games and rolling dice and about how nerdy they are.
They're just regular ol' comedic musicians.

I like rap. I don't like the "nerdcore" or whatever it is.
As for Weird Al putting "soul" into Ridding Nerdy... Seriously?

Seriously though, it is the whitest sentence in the english language. It instantly gives you away as a milquetoast suburbanite who doesn't listen to anything beyond Top 40.
Quite the contrary; I primarily listen to classical, Baroque, jazz, and power metal. Most other genres are tolerable to pretty good, but pop country (as opposed to bluegrass; there's been a terrible murder on Music Row) grates on my ears and rap isn't music. The Top 40 aren't usually unlistenable, but I hardly seek them out. As I recall, if I were to go downstairs right now and turn on my car, the CD player would start blasting Scottish war pipes playing "The Piper's Calling." My tastes are just very broad.

sorry to say it but the whole "i listen to lots of different kinds of music" line reeks of white yuppie scum with pretenses of worldliness
also:
rap isn't music
you would make an awesome dad in the 80s but not much of a music student

Or possibly just someone who likes music.

not only is rap not music, but identifying the oldest chestnut in these debates as such and making a note of how it still leaves the initial issue unresolved is also a demand for the other party to "limit their musical tastes"
Singing in silly operatic voices about dragons /= music. This game is fun!

It's a lucky thing that the board's normally meritocratic culture has a art-shaped blind spot, or else people would have to say they "like music except for rap" instead of maintaining that "I'm sooo cultured I like all music, but rap is not". Kind of like how it's ok to keep black people as slaves because they aren't people M I RITE?

I thought that mc chris hated being called "Nerdcore?"
Rogue, I'd like to see you back up that statement "rap isn't music."
Rap isn't music, it's just poetry with music playing behind it.

He very well might, but it's the same way Harlan Ellison hates being called a Sci-Fi writer.

Havok, the song is clearly about him which is why it means so much to him.
Which is why emo people like Fallout Boy, because their songs are about them, same thing with people who like rap songs about 'growin up in da hood'.
Uh huh. And "Fat" and "Eat it" was about him because he is so fat and understands being fat. And "Like a Surgeon" was about his woes in medical school.

Actually, I can. It has no melodic line, and is therefore not music. If anything, it's a particularly vulgar form of poetry. It's rhythmic, but so's a car engine; that alone does not make music.
I just discovered that you can replicate the experience of listening to Elliott Smith by listening to Ben Folds with the volume turned way down and thinking about cutting yourself.
