Dude! In the Court of the Crimson King! Rock on! I just forgot them...and ELP!...but my list was long enough as it was...

And Aerius, that is so cool that we like so much of the same stuff! Sweet. :D 8)

humbug! as long as a band is successful with their own style, with the stuff they´ve been doing and wanting to they can sell as many records and get as filthy rich as they want to without being sellouts.

they start being sellouts as soon as they make major compromizes with labels they´re on and do their stuff purely for the money and not for themselves/fun/fans/.

way too many people dont notice the difference esspecially among the whole punk thing. most of them yell "SELLOUTS" as soon as a punk band gets a bit famous and even worse when they air a video on mtv. while i despise MTV i wouldnt call it selling out if a punk band gets aired as long it´s still their own stuff.

I don't think a band really sells out so to speak untill they become like Metallica.

I fucking hate metallica after that. Sure a band wants to sell records but you'll notice most REAL band have no problem with Peer-to-Peer networks. In fact the best band in the World, U2, actually release there albums on MP3 the week before they hit the shop.

*grin* Well, technically, I play them all! I have to, since I'm a music teacher. As for the ones I play professionally (I do gigs from time to time--now I'm performing with a local theater doing 'West Side Story'), I mostly play classical percussion & piano, although I have done a couple gigs on bari sax (jazz) and trombone. And I played oboe for about 8 years. And I sing too, and play the guitar but not very well. :D

I think that's about it...
Well you're a bit more diverse than me it seems. I've mostly played bass over the past 18 years, with occasional experiments in keyboards, guitar, and drums.

Oh for the love of your prefered mythical deity.......why? Is it a crime to be successful and make some money......
This is why I quit listening to punk, I got tired of the poser attitudes of 'my band is more underground than your band' bullshit that permeates the entire punk scene. What are we now going to start this shit with rock and thrash bands ? I guess not everyone can be 'Fugazi' and martyr themselves for their musc......
I know. I'm not against it. I'm rather glad they sold out- just stating the obvious.

Afterall, Metallica IMPROVED after they sold out.

Things which will NEVER be found in my playlists:

(c)rap (makes me want to kill things)
New country (This stuff's shit, if I want to hear someone complaining about their F.O.R.D. and their wife, I'll watch springer)
Opera (sounds like shit, can't understand it, hurts my ears)
Jazz/blues (drives me insane and makes me want to kill things)
Hip-hop/varients thereof (see (c)rap)
A good deal of rock and metal (if it sounds like shit, i.e. hendrix, nirvana, etc.)
Indie (drum circle with another name. 'nuff said)
Drum 'n bass (drum circle with (c)rap influence. 'nuff said)
Bad techno (American crap)
Classical (puts me to sleep and shuts off my brain)

And anything with less than 180bpm base-line when I'm in the car, and we wonder why I average 10-25 over limit... lol... "More power to the engines!"
Excellent taste my man....excellent taste....

Top of my list has to be :-
Blind Guardian
Manowar
Metallica
Iced Earth
Apocalyptica
Type O Negative
Eagles
Rhapsody
Therion
Nightwish
Demons & Wizards
Dimmu Borgir
Assatru

Are you trying to tell me that the Black album is better than Master of Puppets? More popular and accessible, yes, but musically it doesn't hold a candle to Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, or ...And Justice for All.

The S&M album was good....but they should have done more of thier older songs for it.....

If you enjoyed the S&M stuff....try and get mp3's of the Queens Jubilee Concert.....Micheal Kayman....the conductor from the S&M album was in charge of co-ordinating orchestral backing for all the artists at that....from Ozzy to Eric Clapton....

Nirvana (dead for nearly a decade & last years single was the best rock song of last year by a mile)
Radiohead (hope they don't do another 'weird' album though)
Bush (anyone heard their latest album, its Top Dorito)

& Spinal Tap (our last drummer died in a bizzare gardening accident- yes the police said it was better left unsolved  )

Eminem's probably the most talented artist of the moment though.

It doesn't seem as if enough people here like the Beatles, there were only 3 or 4 people who mentioned them. This is just wrong.

As for me I mainly like The Beatles, Oasis, Green Day, Weezer, and Our Lady Peace, but I listen to all sorts.
