Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder
SO!
I just finished watching the final Futuram movie with my Boyfriend and home come to review it.
Not bad... Not the best, but not bad. It tied up a few loose ends and was more "True" to the spirit of Futurama in terms of story an such. As I mentioned, overall, good story, It went back to the main theme of Futurama, a Love story between Fry and Lela. We finally get a glimpse into who the "Number 9 guy" is at last. It wasn't as funny as I had hoped, But it was still worth watching. Forthe record I would say
#1: best story and movie
#2: Let us not speak of it
#3: By far the funniest
#4: an ok end,

Um, BG was released on DVD in November 08. The latest one was released on DVD February 23rd. You're very much behind on the times, DEATH.

I swear I saw F:ITWGY on shelves in DVD form in Australia a few weeks back - it can't be that rare in the wild.

(They haven't released any over here, the two movies I do have are from my last visit in a Walmart).
Nice to know. Spoilers for the geographically challenged amongst us?

You are right to say #1 was the best story and movie. It was one that truly felt like it was a Futurama feature. It was just that little bit grander and was probably the most in depth Fry character work.
I would be much kinder to #2, but I agree it was a little off. I did like some of the concepts and there were some good jokes, but I didn't like Yivo much. I also thought Dan Castellanata's appearance was wasted. The previous two appearances of the Robot Devil were legendary. This felt more like they were shoe horning him in for billing.
I think you are right to flag #3 as the funniest. Of course, it had the advantage of a prominent role for Mom. The ending was classic. ("Faster. Faster! SLOWER!") I really liked the way it was a strong ensemble piece.
This one was good, but yeah not the best. The stuff with Bender and Fanny seemed a bit irrelevant really because it was forgotten half way though. I thought the Fry and Leela shippiness was a bit from nowhere in the ending wasn't really built up at all. It was added on because they were afraid it would be the last Futurama ever.

The most hilarious moment of the movie IMO:
Spoiler
of Bender's Big Score or the comedy value of Bender's Game.
Spoiler
Overall, I have to agree with the OP's sentiments. While overall an ok ending to the series, ITWGY couldn't match the story
of Bender's Big Score or the comedy value of Bender's Game.

Re: Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder
Not reading the spoilers, got it today and am really looking forward to watching it.
I've really liked the Fry and Leela story in how it's played out so far, I figured the last movie would be about them.

I thought the Encyclopod was pretty badass looking and epic sci-fi. I thought of the Discworld when I saw him.
If there is another Futurama movie, I would really like to see them interact with him again or land on him at least.

Re: Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder
It's too bad that whenever shows actually decide to enact a serious change on the status quo it's only at the end. Even comedy series get so formulaic with their story-lines that I essentially lose interest. It'd be cool if Futurama continued off from where the crew was now, since the humor itself wouldn't change much but the environment it worked off of has changed.
This is pretty minor stuff though.

Re: Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder
Having watched the last 2 movies: I'm quite dissapointed, I found this to be the weakest of the movies, Bender's Big Score included.
From best to worst:
"Beast with a Billion Backs/Bender's Game".
Bender's Big Score
Green Yonder.
I just didn't laugh that much (except for the leech bits )...
