Taoism vs. Buddhism
Okay, someone insists on Taoism being a branch of Buddhism. I'm pretty sure that the two religions developed separately. However, I'm not all that familiar with either religion, so if anyone has any information on this topic, please, please point the way for me. I hereby thank you in advance. ::bows::

Short General Answer:
Budhism concerns spiritual purification and acheiving divine enlightenment through reincarnation. It originated in India.
Taoism concerns observing the universal balance of the forces of nature (like Yin and Yang). It originated in China.
Budhism is also older than Taoism, and neither have any relation to each other in their origin.

Buddism was design, written and director by a lovly guy whos name I forget but after he become "enlightend" he took the name and title of Budda, In Western terms it means Enlightend One but a much more acurate Translation
Is the Awakened One
Buddism was in a near direct result of the corruptions of Hinduism.
Buddism is completly unchanged from when it was first founded
And I can safly say that because besides a few Guide Lines Buddism Provides the Do what you feel is right clause
In other words if you feel you will be awaked spirtualy through balancing on your head and juggling Banana's, By all means please do, If its standing at the highest point on the land on one foot with a brooding look, Go nuts
To be more acurate Buddism can be said to be the ultimate borrower as it lays few rules down itself, instead insiting its followers find their own ways.

Web-sites I don't know but a simple google search from somone less lazy than I should turn up a few pages

I was hoping for some websites that have reliable information. More than once, I've been told that a site isn't a reliable source, therefore citing it is not good enough.Mr Bean wrote:Web-sites I don't know but a simple google search from somone less lazy than I should turn up a few pages

I dunno about 'reliable'... but here's a site I've found useful when looking up info on various religions and such.VilliageIdiot wrote:I was hoping for some websites that have reliable information.
