You Must Stop World War Two

Post by HemlockGrey »

Suddenly, you are summoned by an extradimensional being. He shows you an alternate universe where things will play out exactly like our own.

He then tasks you with stopping WWII. You will be dropped off in the city of your choice, circa 1930, with the equivelant of $100,000 in local currency.

If you fail, you will die.

What will you do?

Go to Berlin, assassinate Hitler and the other Nazi's in power. Hire an assassin to take out Hirohito in Japan.

Can I bring an "America in Modern Times" textbook? When they see what we've become, that'll make 'em wince :)

Then Stalin will invade Eastern Europe then Western Europe in 1941-2.

By 1930 its too late to stop WW2.

Drop me off in late 1918 and I might be able to pull it off.

Very well. You can choose a date between 1920-1930. No later or earlier.

I'd buy "worthless" uranium and give Berlin a christmas present.

<insert mushroom cloud>

And while germany's military machine would still press onward, the whole nazism think would loose influence making the war entirely political with no prejudicial instances (no auschwitz etc). If that were the case, great for Germany. Maybe then they would use rockets and jets sooner and the world would be a bit more advanced now then it is.

I have enough knowledge of the subject I can skip the manhatten project ahead a few tens of years

However as was noted, The war was nessary though I'd do my best to stop the Holocaust

oh fuck you hemlock. LOL

during that time i'd just .. nuke berlin. LOL Actually I think I'd nuke the middle east and give it to japan to prevent the pacific war. Tho that'd lead to german victory because there'd be no pearl harbor to bring the US into the war..

If you really wanna get things done you have to somehow stop that idiotic Treaty of Versailles from coming into place. Or at least make it an actually reasonable treaty, and set up a better functioning system instead of the moronic "League of Nations"

I really think it's a lost cause. Once a mob, or in this case, several mobs get going, they're hard to stop.

I'd find my way into power in some European country, by force if necessary, then do what is possible to stop Hitler using an army. However, I don't think I'll have enough time if dropped off in 1930. Perhaps a decade earlier.

An alternate option would be aiding the socialist groups in Germany, France and other continental nations in 1918. 100,000 will buy you a lot of friends and equipment.

How about going to Moscow, and supporting Trotsky?

Stalin hadn't consolodated power until '42, so you've got lots of time.

I'd be too busy buying thousands of shares of near worthless stock in Douglas, Boeing and a few other soon to be major companies to make an attempt at stopping WW2. There's noting one man with a significant, but not particularly great amount of money can do to stop the conflict.

Your only real shot is to give some overbaring technological advantage to one of the powers and convince them to demonstrate it to the world. Your best shot here is to go to Great Britain and offer them the A-bomb (assuming you can explain the basics). With luck and a good deal of government help they develop the A bomb before Hitler goes into Poland or Stalin decides to do it without Hitler. You should also use your 100k to depose Chamberlin and get Churchill in power ASAP.

Once Great Brittain has the bomb (and of course long range bombers for delivery) you need them to build massive quantities of them and have them regularly test them and release footage to the world. Releasing official casualty estimates and blast radii would also be a plus.

Working with the Americans is not going to happen. They are way too isolationist at this point. The French are iffy politically and you have have to look at the will to actually use massive weapons.

Germany, the USSR, or Japan would be the best bet to stop a full scale world war. If the world knows Germany has the bomb and wants Poland ... nobody is going to risk their men to stop them. Of course given that those were 3 of the most lethal regimes in history I'd take the war over leaving one of them in absolute power (and if that kills me, so be it).
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Throwing around large amounts of cash in Moscow is a good way to die, be it by common criminals or the party.

You'll also have to do something to stop or lessen the effects of the Great Depression.

Trotsky believed in World Revolution, not in just sorting out the problems internally before moving on like Stalin did.

If you had Trotsky in power there is a reasonable chance that Europe AND Asia could well have turned communist before the '50s.
