Seriously, I can understand Macross Frontier having clips - Studio Nue isn't rich. But a bloody Gundam show? Gun-dam-mu? Ban-dai-to? Where everyone has Gundams and therefore lots of Gunpla sales? (Strike Freedom and Destiny all have multiple MG releases; Infinite Justice has one. Nevermind Strike Rouge and whatever.) Simply inexcusable.Ford Prefect wrote:R2 isn't exactly Gundam related, and more to the point I think it's a lot better than Destiny is. R2 was a train wreck of a series, but it was at least interesting to watch, amusingly tacky and visually more interesting than the terrible designs and repeated animation that undoubtedly plagued Destiny.

Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.
I honestly dont' get it. Fukuda even mentioned having twice the per episode budget of most other anime projects he'd ever been on, but there we go. That said, even 00 has reused animation, though to be fair I only ever picked that up in the first season once, though it's more noticeable in this season.

It's a long standing internet assumption/rumor that they blew it all/lots of it paying for fancy VAs, the soundtrack, and the OPs. The "Destiny Plan on a napkin" writing quality rumor probably didn't make it too easy to actually animate and be ready on time, big budget or not.

Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.
GN particles apparently do make you an innovator. You know I always have to wonder why they don't make their space suits bullet proof. I'm sure Hong Long was wondering that when Nena capped him five times in the back and then once in the face. This episode marks the best introduction of Mistah Bushido! Standing on his MS with his hands on his hips, "SHONEN!" Well, he's not Mistash Bushido anymore since he took off his mask and proclaimed he was Graham Aker the FLAG FIGHTAH! So Nena gets to kill Wang, then Ribbonz takes over BAD HARO in order to tell Nena that Ali killed her brothers. After that, Louise comes in and kills Nena with her mobile armor, which can transform for no reason. Also the claws are Fangs. The director has learned the Tomino approved method of tying up plot lines; "KILL 'EM ALL!" Stay after the credits to get some Graham x Setsuna naked time.

That's best used in moderation these days, I'd think, plus it's getting a little tired by now. Someone tell me...why was Wang in this show again? She could have used a few more scenes which actually made me care, instead of just laughing at her getting bitch-slapped once in a while and at her final fate. The episode as a whole wasn't too bad, I enjoyed how Graham may actually become a slightly viable character again and the pretty mecha are always nice to look at, but that sticks out.VF5SS wrote:The director has learned the Tomino approved method of tying up plot lines; "KILL 'EM ALL!"
I suppose killing off Nena, despite all appearances, gives Louise some closure in the long run even if she could still end up crippled, in an asylum or something, like a couple of Tomino's crazy women who didn't die did. Or whatever, who knows what Mizushima wants (or is allowed to do).

She could have been written better, but the sub fleshes her out a bit - she is so driven because Hong Long wasn't suited for the job, thrusting her into responsibilities way beyond her at 16.scythewielder wrote:Someone tell me...why was Wang in this show again? Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.
Nena's death was pretty nasty- just before it cuts to her face you can see the Empress' claw smashing through the cockpit's screen, and right before everything explodes she's coughing blood as she screams. Gruesome.
I wonder what's going on in the next episode though; in the preview you can see the 00 is launching without the Raiser, and it's holding a new type of weapon we've not seen before. Looks similar to the ones the 00 Seven Sword had.

Still, considering how long she's been around her character was woefully underdeveloped by the writers.Ypoknons wrote:She could have been written better, but the sub fleshes her out a bit - she is so driven because Hong Long wasn't suited for the job, thrusting her into responsibilities way beyond her at 16.scythewielder wrote:Someone tell me...why was Wang in this show again? That's the new GN Sword III. It seems like an improved version of Exia's GN Sword.Manus Celer Dei wrote: I wonder what's going on in the next episode though; in the preview you can see the 00 is launching without the Raiser, and it's holding a new type of weapon we've not seen before. Not to mention the ability to make you buy the same fucking model again. I understand the need for dramatic build up, but you know I feel that it makes the show seem like it wasn't planned out that well when Bandai has to release Malibu Stacy with a new hat right at the end of the show.

The swords on the models have always been bigger, and it does look cooler. And how is this even the anti-ship sword? That's not even a sword/gun combo.Manus Celer Dei wrote:Good lord, that things huge. Looks even bigger than the Exia's one.

I think it would be more appropriate to compare it the GN Buster Swords used by the Zwei, Arche and 00 Seven Sword equipment, rather than SEED's inappropriately named extra large beam sabers.Commander 598 wrote:It's the "anti-ship sword" all over again...

Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.
S2's planning does seem to be not as great as S1. I remember Lasse mentioning the GN Arms in episode 15 S1, long before they came in episode 20-ish. But it isn't it possible that its not the writers' fault in this case as much as Bandai coming out with models very aggressively, especially the 1/144s?VF5SS wrote:Not to mention the ability to make you buy the same fucking model again. As far as I'm concerned they're all just artisitic descendants of the A-S swords, I don't think Gundam had a Final Fantasy sword "thing" before SEED introduced the A-S sword.Ford Prefect wrote:I think it would be more appropriate to compare it the GN Buster Swords used by the Zwei, Arche and 00 Seven Sword equipment, rather than SEED's inappropriately named extra large beam sabers.Commander 598 wrote:It's the "anti-ship sword" all over again...

That was the dumbest fucking design ever. I hate Melee-only mech designs. Even if they rationalize a universe in which giant mechs are practical, a melee only unit is fucking retarded. Anyone flying one should get blasted to pieces before he even makes contact with the enemy.Commander 598 wrote:

Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.
Does it even matter? Giant swords aren't nearly the most offensive weapon system to come out of a Gundam series. They're not even the most offensive melee weapon to come out of Gundam, either - that title goes to the Gelgoog's double bladed beam saber.Commander 598 wrote:As far as I'm concerned they're all just artisitic descendants of the A-S swords, I don't think Gundam had a Final Fantasy sword "thing" before SEED introduced the A-S sword.

I try to ignore things out of MSG since it was made in the era of Super Robots and the OVAs plus new additions have practically retconned about half of it into non-existence.

excuse me, Mister, that's a beam Naginata. and you can spin it like a beam shield.Ford Prefect wrote: Does it even matter? Honestly out of all the mobile suits that claim to be melee oriented, at least Exia was practically invincible for most of the first season. Also it was backed up by the GN Rifle and the rarely seen GN Vulcans. Plus I also give it a pass because it was something fresh and interesting. While SEED had a couple of solid swords, none of them had the sheer style of the Exia's GN Switchblade. Even the way it was attached to Exia's arm was cleverly done to ensure that it would never get in the way of the hands when they were needed. 00's huge GN Sword III seems like some kind of oversized poseur.
And SEED's giant beam butter knifes are so lame. Let's just drop them.

Exia, at least, makes a bit more sense because it's occaisionly shown to have an amazing level of agility compared to other suits, which'd make it more suited to dodging enemy fire as it closed in. I think the best example of this was when CB were attacking Moralia, and Exia was just effortlessly dancing around the enemy forces as it was chopping them up.Darksider wrote:That was the dumbest fucking design ever. Re: Gundam 00 - Second Season.
I've always thought 00 was also exceptionally maneuverable due to TDS's particle output; and 00 Raiser it has a GN Field to back it up. Just think of how effortlessly Setsuna dodged cruiser fire in episode 9 against ZheJiang, or how it gave Barrack's squad hell even before the O Riser showed up.Manus Celer Dei wrote:Exia, at least, makes a bit more sense because it's occaisionly shown to have an amazing level of agility compared to other suits, which'd make it more suited to dodging enemy fire as it closed in.
