Um, I think it goes a bit beyond the fact that she isn't pretty anymore. Did you miss the part where she needs eyedrops to keep her vision because she has no eyelid over the remaining eye she has? Did you miss the fact that there are no longer any fingers on either of her hands? She's got a small stump for a thumb which she appears to be doing ok with, but come ON!! There are worse things about what happened to her other than the fact that she lost her good looks. Jeez, would it not have been as big a deal if she had been ugly? Just wondering...DG_Cal_Wright wrote:That girl was gorgous, and now she's hidious.

I've long thought that "vehicular manslaughter" in the case of drunk driving should be 1st degre murder because there is not a single adult in the US who could claim ignorance of the effects of alcohol on your ability to drive. If you get behind the wheel drunk that's premeditation right there.

I agree. I think the same way when people talk about Christopher Reeve (READ: WOMEN)... But he was soooo handsome! What a waste! So, let me understand... Saw that on Spacebattles. Absolutely terrible. She doesn't even look human anymore.

I am going to withold the flamage due to my stating the obvious. However it was meant to reinforce that latter portion of this post. It would still hold the same meaning if the extent was not as serious. The fact is, due to one's lack of responsibilty and wreckless abandon someone else's life was shattered. Not just her, but her family and friends as well. Even the criminal's family and friends were affected. So my philosophy is in the light.Zaia wrote:Um, I think it goes a bit beyond the fact that she isn't pretty anymore. Grab a rope. Tie it into a noose. Let it drape from a limb to an oak. Perferably one on the courthouse lawn. Then hang the bastard, and let him swing for three days straight with a sign. 'Drive Drunk and see what happens next!' By the way. I'm the lucky asshole that gets to see the look on thier face up close and personal as I kick the apple crate out from under thier feet.

Hear hear! Drunk-driving punishments are ridiculously lax.CmdrWilkens wrote:I've long thought that "vehicular manslaughter" in the case of drunk driving should be 1st degre murder because there is not a single adult in the US who could claim ignorance of the effects of alcohol on your ability to drive. My recommendations
1) If a DUI seriously injures someone, treat it as murder or assault with a deadly weapon, depending on whether the victim survives. In the case of permanent disablement, disfigurement, or death, confiscate 100% the perp's personal assets (car, house, bank, mutual funds, retirement funds, stocks, bonds, etc) and hand them over lock, stock and barrel to the victim or the victim's family. EDIT: this should be done for all murders IMO.
2) If a DUI doesn't injure someone, first offense = prison (at least a month in the can), and fines. None of this "I'll let you off with a warning" bullshit. Any officer found going lax on a DUI (and this happens all the time, especially in small towns) will be held liable for any future accidents involving this person. Subsequent offenses should be punished with escalating prison sentences, confiscation of automobile, etc. Putting demerit points on someone's license is a ridiculously limp-wristed way to treat criminals who think they have the right to gamble with everyone else's lives.
3) Blanket authorization to shoot to kill whenever someone tries to flee from the police in a car chase. These fuckers who have drugs or booze in their cars and try to evade the police by speeding through red lights are risking everyone else's lives; their own should be forfeit.

Sounds like my view on hardened criminal's. When they violate the rights of others, they basically forfeit thiers. So all of this lenancy bullshit and calling it morals is for the dead pidgeons under the overpass to our local parkway. That reminds me. It brought a smile to my face Tuesday morning on my way to class. On the way out, low and behold, the Alabama chain gang hard at work. Guess what, they successfully made about 3/4 a mile on my way back into town. It sorta gets you right here, no?

This one was on SB, no less haunting on this board either. Does a damn good job of showing one of the main reasons I flat out refuse to drive drunk (minimum 3 hours after one beer, even though my metabolism technically would have it out of the system in less than 20 minutes tops, but that is one risk I won't take). When I do drink, I either get a ride to and from the place, or I leave my keys with someone I know won't give them to me or anyone else (can't have my wheels smashed up thanks to some drunk fucktard getting ideas with my keys and my vehicle) and failing that, I make sure I put the keys someplace where even I can't get to them while somewhat under the influence (mind you that's difficult as I can still walk a straight line when I'm totally stone-drunk)
I may speed like a fiend (10-25 over) but I at least know my senses are at peak so I can react. But driving drunk? No fucking way in hell, especially since I also remember all too unfondly the high speed drunken run from a friend's house to mine, the idiot had a liter bottle of Bud in one hand, the other hand on the wheel, and I had the other 5 1-liter bottles (chugging them to get rid of them since we had just been booted out of another friend's house for being too loud), the "friend" driving the truck (I later stole it actually) had already downed 4 bottles, I was on my 3rd even before hitting the remainders. I think at one point the idiot was doing 90+ in a 45, that was also the point I pitched the empties and part of a full one out the side. This is NOT an experience I want to repeat, I was being rather stupid letting the guy drive (alcohol induced probably), stupider for getting in that car with him (didn't have a choice though since we'd been booted at like 2am), even stupider for letting him drive home after dropping me off, even though it was probably for the better where I was concerned. Remember, parents seeing their 17 year old son show up at 2am reeking of beer and very obviously drunk off his ass, is NOT a good thing... I also promptly had an emotional breakdown, all too easy with alcohol in the system. That was also the last time I got truely wasted.
I do still drink though, but mainly at either SCA events, or friend's houses where if I do get truely wasted, I can stay for at least 12-18 hours afterwards before being forced to go home. (only thing at SCA events, if you get too wasted, you tend to wake up face up in the middle of the battlefield with your shirt half off, an empty bottle of mead or cider nearby, and no clue how the hell you got there. in my case it was having the last memory being getting into my tent WITHOUT a bottle of mead... even worse is seeing a line of knights and even a few horsemen heading to you... that was too funny how that day went... there's also the chance of waking up in the brambles or in a ditch, thankfully I've done neither, though I have gotten stuck in the brambles after trying to take a piss after a couple of games of Tablero...)
Back on topic (gotta love 1am delusional rants ) it actually would have been more merciful had she died, that truely has to be hell on both her and her family. I am actually of the thought that if someone will be permanently crippled and disfugured (non-functional/significantly reduced function type only) that they should be permitted to die if there is a good chance they will without help, just due to the mental anguish aspect of it.
Btw, I may like drinking once in a while, but I am of the opinion that anyone caught DUI should be in jail at least 90 days, $5,000 fine with $10,000 added per each .02% over the limit on top of that. And if you hurt someone thanks to DWI (or even hit another vehicle or object) you automatically get 2 years in the slammer, kill someone and you get instant death penalty.

Well I don't know if we need to go quite that far but I'm all for some vast changes to the current punishment system:Darth Wong wrote: Hear hear! Drunk-driving punishments are ridiculously lax.
1) Rape should be a death penalty worthy crime. If you are debased to the point of forcibly fucking a person you have lost all humanity and don't deserve to be part of our society anymore
2) 1st Degree murder is either death or life without parole, 2nd Degree is life without parole, manslaughter is life with the possibility of parole.
3) DUI (no injury to persons) 1st offense: Full responsibility for damage, 12 month revoked liscense, 1 month prison. 2nd Offense: see above but add an extra two years of revoked liscense and make it 1 year in prison. 3rd Offense: Charge becomes attempted murder and minimum sentence is 25 years, permanent loss of driver's liscense. If any offense occurs on a suspended or revoked liscense the charge immediately becomes attempted murder.
4) DUI becomes a felony on second offense (it'll make getting a job hell since you'd have to check the "convicted felon" box).
5) Probation will become allowable only for misdemeanors excluding DUI (in other words if you commit a felony the judge CAN'T let you off easy).
Now I wouldn't give the blanket authorization to shoot but I would make any attempt to flee the police a felony punishable by a minimum of 1 year in jail even if you did nothing worse than run a red light.

Drunk drivers need to have their license revoked, permanantly, and stuck in prison.
If someone is killed by a drunk driver, treat it as 1st degree murder, and give em life or the chair.
They need to go extra tough on underage drunk drivers. Im not talking life in prison, or electric chair, but they need to put them in prison. They must learn their lesson NOW or they will continue to do it in the future. I have no remorse for the little punks who think they can get away with anything and have their slates wiped clean at 18.

You know I'm suddenly reminded how lax we are about vehicles and how horribly weak enforcement really is. By example I give you the story of an aquaintance of mine in high school.
She was driving to school one morning when a truck decided to pull out of a shopping center right into her car (the guy had a stop sign and was clearly in the wrong). When the cops arrived they foudn out that he had a driving record 4 pages long and they suspended his liscense on the spot...he drove away after that. Better yet when they went to trial (after he placed a "witness" on the stand who hadn't even been there) his liscense was revoked and he left the courthouse and...you guessed it...drove away.

"I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. "

For some reason, people have this stupid idea in their heads that driving on public streets is an inalienable right.

OK, I've got an idea. Instead of revoking his license, we cut his fucking hands off. That ought to slow him down.CmdrWilkens wrote:She was driving to school one morning when a truck decided to pull out of a shopping center right into her car (the guy had a stop sign and was clearly in the wrong).
