Why yes, I really don't feel like digging through a massive document full of incomprehensible missile designations I have to look up after reading every other sentence :P

On a more serious note...can someone explain just what the problem is?

Shroom and you fretting about delegation of work.

EDIT: In any case, I'm not in the bloody mood to go on arguing over it. Let the fucking matter rest. Just so no one comes along again saying "post as we feel like it" or "I want a piece of the pie" when no one wants to make an effort to figure out the details.

Fixed for you. :D

So anyway. Steve, when you are officially rescued, do you want to backdate a visit shortly thereafter to me? Or better yet, I'd come to you. And if you want to include a snippet on me talking with Sophie during the rescue stuff, go ahead.

I figure the visit would be mostly about your safe return, though we'd doubtless discuss other things: basically all the stuff we went over on IM WRT CATO and Japanistan back when they were new and fresh topics, so we shouldn't need to bog things down with an entire writeup. We'll just say those records were, um, accidently misplaced and didn't make it to the archives?

Here's the current outline of rocket technology I had prepared. I might've missed something, though.

You will notice that despite vigorous claims to the contrary, quite a bit of FASTA-developed technology ends up in CATO military programs and vice versa.

Er.. Isn't Zenit using RD-171 on the core, with possible strap ons either RD-171 or some other solid propellant?

I thought it was supposed to use solid-fuelled strapons? (damn, that sounds dirty :P )

But yeah, I made a mistake about the core engines. Silly me.

Both are possible. We geared our program to use either solid fuelled strap ons or liquids, like RD-171 or one of the derivatives.

For the main Energia, you could use RD-0120 (it uses 4 RD-0120 if I recall, thoguh I guess you could try squeezing in a 5th or 6th) which for now can burn longer. We will come up with a longer burning RD-171 (probably call it RD-172) later.

EDIT: And 1 RD-171 in the core! 2 would be really cramped. (4 nozzles remember?) We will trott out a Zenit 2 with 2-6 side Zenits and a core Zenit like the Delta IV heavy.

Humm...wait, so I'm supposed to just copy the RL Zenit? I kind of assumed it's a name we gave to the next iteration of our medium booster, hence - two engines in the core.

If that's so, I'll just rename the Lucrelance IV to something else and have the Zenit be a separate booster.

Oh, I thought I should mention for future reference; when the Echelon crew (callsign: Eagle) mentioned the "cavalry", they were referring to the Hurricane gunship squadron awaiting orders on the cargo ship loitering off shore. So that'd be about 5 medium attack helicopters armed with small-diameter rocket pods and some combination of automatic grenade launchers and chainguns. They're going to be approaching the camp while Eagle does a fly-over to get a closer look at what's in there.

Assuming nobody gets confused, they'll be buggering off shortly. Heaven help the militia if somebody with an itchy trigger finger detects the gunships, though. :)

How did you get all those assets into position in under six hours? Seriously-- the people in Cascadia and San Dorado heard of the shootdown six hours before "now". No-one outside those two countries would know until at least an hour later probably more, and we're in a goddamn obscure corner of the continent. And yet you have not only spec-ops troopers but a cargo ship with attack helicopters in the region?! Seriously?

Oh, six hours? My bad. They'd still be en route to the cargo ship at that point. If they're even out of Miratia yet.

And I rolled for the cargo ship being in position on a 1% chance of success and got it, so...

It actually is possible that the FTO has some kind of naval assets in the area. We've got a fairly extensive fleet, and a relatively small coastline to patrol with it.

I'd like to own a couple of Kirovs, but PeZook already called dibs on all four of Byzantium's. I guess I'll have to take them from the UCSR when it starts decommissioning them, then; integrating them into a navy that exclusively uses MESS-standard gear is going to be a bit of a bitch, though.

I even picked out names for them in the event that I'd actually be able to obtain them. Hell, I wrote out a comprehensive list of names for all past, present, and future ships of the Langley Navy; I may post it here if I feel like it.

Meanwhile, my capabilities to launch 6000km missiles aren't diminished as I have now 4 Typhoon submarines. :D

What? No, obviously not, but it would take several hours before you can get troops into position. Let's say we inform you of the situation one hour after the shootdown; you then have to contact your military, they have to request clearance to enter the theater and coordinate their movements with JNAC and the regional SDA command (another hour goes by), then you have to scramble a team and brief them (say two hours)-- that leaves you a mere two hours to get from whatever barracks your troops are sitting in to our position in the middle of nowhere of the continent.

Al that's assuming some pretty awesome response times if you ask me, but I'd be willing to assume that a bunch of gung-ho commandos could do it. Helicopter gunships and other mechanized assets on the other hand should require far more time to scramble.

Actually, you could tell your men "Get up grab your gear and report to the briefing room in five", prepare their transport assets etc then just brief them once you know what's going on and send them off.

So if we assume Ryan keeps a squad or two on alert at all times (I'd imagine he would, especially with two presidents running around a rather unstable country) then it's 1 hour for you to inform him. The troopers get told to get ready while brass works out the details. 1-2 hours for that, then say another 2 for the flight and paradrop into the area. Entirely doable in six hours, though a little light on prep work so it might lead to various incidents.

Gunships are unlikely, yeah. Even if a cargo ship capable of servicing them is in position (it is, Ryan rolled for that), they're in an airbase somewhere in Miratia and have to fly out to sea. Does Miratia even have pilots and deck crews trained to operate helicopters from sea ships?

I wouldn't know why they'd have those, considering Miratia is a land-locked nation with only access to the central Frequesuan rivers.

Well, a sufficiently large cargo ship will probably have a helipad, but no hangar and probably at most one or two cross-trained crew members.

Party time. :D

P.S. Shinn, I've written you into the party. :D Now go mingle with the guests.

P.P.S. Oh and Ryan, I don't get it, why are you so determined to get involved with the rescue? This is Siege and Steve's story, they are the ones to decide how it goes down, and who does what. It is one thing to offer forces to them, but you're becoming a bit annoying. Just let them handle their own story, if they want to use your guys then that's fine, if not that's fine too, because it's their story and you have no reason to get involved.
