Wow, I didn't even knew Tropico 2 existed

This is a game I missed. I read about Tropico 1 in some gaming magazine many years ago, but then totally forgot about it. Is it any good? And what about "2"?

Tropico is simply brilliant. It's a political management sim (more like Theme Park or Dungeon Keeper than something serious), where you run a Caribbean island however you damn well want through an indefinite period of time but really from the 60s onwards
Cosy up to the Americans, Russians, grow drugs, oppress your people, be a holiday destination, set up national bank for the express purpose of hiding your presidential slush fund, rig elections, imprison opponents, fight off guerillas or CIA/KGB backed coups...
It's all fantastically done and with a brilliant sense of humour.

Tropico- dictator
Tropico 2-pirate dictator
We could grow drugs? Really? All I got was cigars
The humor was good. "Let me take care of that money for you, Mr. President"

I'm not sure if you could actually grow drugs, but damnit it felt like you did. Plus, that had better be a feature in number 3.Samuel wrote:Tropico- dictator

How about having Lou Bega as one of the "historical figures" you could play as?
I also liked how the game ended, you, your advisor a suitcase of cash adrift in a dinghy in the Caribbean.

You do realize you only get that if you lose, right? If you win, you get the scene on the balcony with your advisor listing off how the people feel about you. You still get your Swiss bank account- it is mentioned under putting something away for yourselfweemadando wrote:I'm not sure if you could actually grow drugs, but damnit it felt like you did. Yeah, but the "win" in that game is not nearly as fun. I consider that game to be a win when I can get off the island just ahead of the revolutionaries coming for my scalp.

Definitely two fun sim games. Although trying to keep my loyal subjects from throwing me off the island became a big problem in the later stages of the game. I was a rum or cigar type producer as couldn't ever get the hang of the tourist options.
