Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread VI
No they don't, not really. It's an improvised solution. Ideally I'd use a dedicated assault carrier, but since I didn't even have a coastline until a game-year ago, I decided against including one in my military. The cargo ships, in any event, are operated by the military, and are presently doing loops around the continent and through some of the rivers (where they can do so without violating waterspace, of course.) They're there to support whatever happens to find a large, mostly flat surface useful, among other things.SiegeTank wrote:I wouldn't know why they'd have those, considering Miratia is a land-locked nation with only access to the central Frequesuan rivers.PeZook wrote:Does Miratia even have pilots and deck crews trained to operate helicopters from sea ships?
They wouldn't be big or stable enough to operate a jet from, I figure, but I think they could secure a few light choppers. There's five headed there in total, already armed, plus a support chopper carrying a load of plug-in fuel tanks and the minimal tools necessary to finish prepping for the actual mission itself. The empty tanks will be returned when the ship gets back to my port, to save on fuel when they return.
As for readiness, a sizeable portion of the Miratian military is kept ready to go on short notice, much in the same way as any other nation's nuclear deterrent or bomber-interception force would be.

Because its a role-playing game. It's everybody's story, and that's what makes it interesting. In theory, anyways.DarthShady wrote:P.P.S. Oh and Ryan, I don't get it, why are you so determined to get involved with the rescue? This is Siege and Steve's story, they are the ones to decide how it goes down, and who does what. Just let them handle their own story, if they want to use your guys then that's fine, if not that's fine too, because it's their story and you have no reason to get involved.
If you expect me to sit on my ass and not try to get involved somehow, well, where's the fun in that?

Actually, that's a pretty well thought-out response Ryan gave. Completely plausible, IMHO.
One note, though: what exactly is a "sizeable portion" of your military? What constitutes "short notice"?
Because keeping an armored division ready to start an offensive is expensive as hell

Well technically, I don't think Miratia actually has enough military personnel to form a division, never mind maintain one at readiness 24/7.One note, though: what exactly is a "sizeable portion" of your military? What constitutes "short notice"?
Because keeping an armored division ready to start an offensive is expensive as hell
Off the top of my head, though, I'd say Miratia has a brigade, 2-3 air squadrons, and their bomber force ready to go, which is about a quarter of their forces altogether.
As far as vehicles are concerned, the idea is to have them ready so that the only limiting factors in how fast they can deploy is A) how long it takes the crews to suit up, hop in, and turn on their vehicles, and B) how long it takes to get them to the operational area, by whatever means. There's equipment in place so that they can be briefed en route.
There's always at least one flight (4x) of Falcons already in the air, and at least one flight of Lightning fighters and bombers per major city (which is, to say, about 4-5, I'd guess.)
The Echelon bombers and their derivatives stay on the ground, but they can also be scrambled pretty fast. From the word 'go', I'd guess half an hour.

All this talk reminds me of my need for some useful naval assets.
I need a DDG, a couple FFGs, and/or an assault carrier to defend my new coastline and augment my force projection capabilities.
Also; I'm planning on developing bottom-crawling amphibious tanks and IFVs, for use in amphibious landings. That's not for a while, mind; I'll have to pay for the boats first.
Would anybody find that capability useful?

Amphibious tanks and IFVs?? Well the EFVs, and BMP or BMD series is pretty much what is available. I don't really think any amphibious tank actually "bottom crawling" but rather floats.Ryan Thunder wrote:All this talk reminds me of my need for some useful naval assets.
