Japanese scientists build a Gynoid

Post by Zor »

Link
Japanese scientists have unveiled a female humanoid walking robot at Tsukuba City, north east of Tokyo.

The robot, named HRP-4C, has 30 motors in its body that allow it to walk and move its arms as well as eight motors on its face to create expressions like anger and surprise.

She will also make a special appearance in a Tokyo fashion show and will go on sale for around $200,000 (£142,000).

One step closer to full human replication.

Successfully mimicking organic movement like this is a matter of component miniaturization and software complexity, right? To be able to handle all the balance issues and compensate for shifts?

To further demostrate the point that humans are animals like all others, we should have sources confirming just how quickly this model is bought for the purpose of fucking it.

That said, I love technology. One step closer to having our robotic overlords...er, companions wandering among us. :)

That thing creeps me out. Deckard needs to retire it immediately.

Figures that Japan would be working on more of these. I think they showed one that only talked while sitting down a few years ago.

Not quite up to Robot River yet, the way it walks looks just like a more complex version of old step-step robot toys. Wake me up when it can do a pivot.

As for people buying these as sex toys, they damn well better check to make sure its mouth has some sort of safety mechanism or soft teeth, otherwise... *CHOMP*, new entry into the Darwin Awards.

Its Japan. As soon as they invent sexbots, their society is doomed.

Edit: Watched the video, the thing walks around like its injured, or has back trouble.

Yeah, that's because it's 'stomping' around. While that's mighty impressive, I think it will be some time before they develop balancing technology enough to give robots a steady stride.

No, those toys aren't dynamically stabilised and only work because they have a very low centre of gravity. That said, ASIMO has considerably better mobility - but then it's been in development longer and doesn't have to mimic human proportions as closely. Progress in robotics has been humming along nicely and full replication of human physical capabilities will be possible in another couple of decades. Higher level cognitive functionality, that's rather harder to predict, as progress there is rather more nonlinear and unpredictable.

Wrong, there have been quite a few recent walking and even running robots that move very fluidly, but most of them aren't prettied up for PR stunts the way the one in the OP is.

there was that 4 legged thing built a while ago (can't find the video) to transport equipment on it's back. it wasn't covered or anything so it didn't look organic standing still, but the way it moved was down right creepy. that thing had a high center of gravity and walked fine, as well as being able to recover itself when knocked off balance.

Probably this thing. The bits where it recovers from a kick and the part where the non-noisy one (I presume the cables are supplying power so it doesn't have to make that irritating buzz) jumps over an obstacle are both impressive.

I was just wondering with all of the list of motors in different locations, how many motors does its vagina have?

Knowing the japanese? None. Save for the "moan like you're being raped" speaker, and the "reset messy virginity" button.

Right. The Japanese's sexual expectations for women are pretty limited. It all pretty much boils down to 'lie there like a dead fish and take it'. It's the man's job to do all the work in bed, and apparently a lot of them get stage fright. Or so I have heard from a young woman who claimed to have put more than one of her Japanese dates in an awkward position by actually daring to be on top.

Japan is already doomed- they are far below the replacement rate and don't believe in assimilating foreigners. So the next generation of Japanese will be robots

...Actually that might be crazy enough for someone to try it.

I'm not that impressed. We've been seeing stuff with movement like, or better then this, for a while now.

This one just looks human, that's all.

We've know forever that Japan is crazy for robots. Their devotion to this concept aids us all. Those that have three or more decades of life to look forward too can hope to see a much more effective version of these in 2020. And likely they will be making a splash in the porn industry within a year or two after that. If that long...

So lets call this a step on the road to full androids. While AI programmers work on making smarter and smarter computers, the Robot builds work on making more and better humanoid robots.

That's actually a plotpoint in several animes, like Appleseed, though most involve some sort of massive super war too.

The human body has something like 700 skeletal muscles, which work in various combinations to give us thousands of degrees of freedom. This robot has 30 motors on its body and eight on its face.

Clearly, we have quite a way to go still. Concerning the human-like robots of the future: do you think its more likely that said robots will be powered by artificial muscles or hundreds of micro-sized electric motors?

Meh, "impressive" is when not only is it pretty enough and supple enough to fuck, but can also transform into a fighter drone and a fully-armoured battlemech as well.

Degan I'm thinking your setting you bar to high unless... Degan did you move to Japan in the last few years?

I mean it'd make sense, I'd be happy with just a battlemech(Lets put aside power/weight ratios and ground pressure problems for the moment) or just a decent 3rd Gen fighter equivalent drone. Combing the two would seem silly and a recipie for disaster, but no we just have a Fem-bot mode as well?

Well I... hmmm... good luck there Degan get cracking on that now.

Nice to see robotics advancing, from the comments here, I was expecting something much cruder.

I wonder how well it keeps/maintains balance? If I were to bump or push it, would it be able to prevent itself from falling over (to any degree at all, I'm not expecting acrobatics) or would it tip as easily as a mannequin?

I can easily see this as a rich person's toy. Throw a dress on it, give it some sort better grippers for hands, and you have a robot waitress, or some other fetch-and-carry task.
