Yes! Stomp the Frenchies! Losing our health care system would suck (if Americans think we envy your HMO's and the periodic "let's raise money for por Timmy so he can afford surgery" fund-raising drives we see on local American TV stations, you're nuts), but stomping Quebec would almost make up for it :)

Looking objectively at the situation inside canada, it amazes me that French and English people living side bny side with each other for 225 years have yet to work out thier differences and continue to treat each other like alien populations seeking to gain what advantage whatsover over the other.

why not encourage Quebec to leave Canada? impose a jerry lewis tax on all reruns of his shows, that would make the french pay out the nose!!

Really, is there a reason for Canada to exist anymore? Besides you won't have to pay those freaking "equalization taxes" anymore, and they will be forced to pull thier own wieght.

Mike: Okay, we'll stomp Quebec AND we'll let you change the name of one American warship of your choice to "Executor." How's that? Deal?

As the represenative of america, I find these terms most aggreeable, as long as the ship is not currently named George Washington.

I think they already tried it, but it didn't get enough votes.

Not quite a tax on the people but more of a federal transfer payment. A better question might be ask to where this money goes when the provinces receive their fair share. If goes towards social programs such as health care or education then i don't have a problem.

Wow, I was just looking over the equalization tax program, on that page Solo gave us. if you do a bit of looking yoiu can pull together more about it. Its is an abomination of gross injustive. Just 2 provinces fund the dam thing.Itys freaking jerry rigged to plunder Onterio and Alberta.

I have to look at these numbers and the tax structure more closely, but thies buiness with the Quebec abatement,, average tax base, and the rest of the crap of disqualified income seems to be one hell of a scheme to pull nearly $5 billion (abut hald of all equalization taxes) into quebec.

Next the money is given freely with no strings attacked. SO of course its going to be wasted. And the genereal services tax just seems to be the tip of the iceberg.

I love how giving Quebec $5 billion isd termed "an investment in Canadians", the very same canadians that tried to ditch canada a little while ago. Now if it is an investment, does that mean, an english canaada from say Onterio, could travel to quebec and demand his "investment" back from lack of return? What a load of crock.

Also thE candian Dollar conitues to drop. I have heard that in the next few years it ciuld very well drop bellow 50 Cents on the US dollar. IF It continues to Drop Canda may become the mexico of the north with High inflation and people will just leave Canada to go to the United States becuase of Rising Prices and the devaluement of the Candaian dollar.

Actually is was slightly up yesterday at 63.53 cents (US). As for dropping below 50 cents, I would say that your claim is purely speculative. But if you're sure, why don't you play the currency markets and make some money?

The last time I checked the bank of Canada has kept inflation in and around 1 to 3 percent. Hopefully, some monetary policy will prevent the run away inflation that you are referring to.

You don't know that for sure.

I assume that the general services tax refers to the goods and services tax?

Yes I know it for sure. It goes directly int oeach province's "general fund" account. Which means its no strings attached. It even says that they can spend the money any way they want several times on the website.

Whats even more scar about it, is that if Quebec decides give a tax break to its people, it can be assured that most of the lost income will be made up for through the equalization program.

You see it doesn't measure the tax burden of the citizenery as regards to tgheir income, it measure how much tax is being colleceted as an everage over 5 of the "middle income provinces" and simply measures what they are paying. So if 1 province gets more money by charging 50% taxes, part of that money will be shifted to another province who only taxes their people 25%, making it seem like like both provinces are only taxing 37% which is really a gross distortion of whats really going on.

Then they disqualify huge sums of revenue for the measured provinces like oil revenue, or anything made on the water (offshore exemption), but within the duly appointed borders of each province. Quebecs Abatement is bascially all the federal income taxes that are paid from Quebec are no longer collected by the federal government for redistribution. Thats about 16.5% pervcentage points of your taxes. Now if they don;t level a tax of 16.5% and say instead only decide to tax the public 13%, they do so knowing that any difference will be made up by the Alberta and Onterio, because they have to make up any shortfalls in any other provinces budget up to the mean of the 5 middles income states. There is another bastard built into the law, if they raise taxes or or the economy grows in quebec, only 70% of the increase in revenue is deducted from the eqalization transfers. So they have a good year, and they fuck with hte numbers making it look like it wasn;t really that good. WHAT ASSHOLES!!

But if you look at the site, and the provinceds they are using, the chart doesn;t make too much sense, becasue the mean is higher than any of the provinces supposedly used to make the calculation.

I ma going to look up the exact equation up. You guys over ther in Onterio and alberta are really getting soaked. Must make you feel real good that most of the reason you have such a high tax burden is beacuse you are shifting $4.7 billion to Quebec

If it were up to me, I'd impose a national sales tax high enough to sustain the country, and discontinue all other taxes.
