More like stargate being told to be more like BSG.

Even if it is, I liked bsg galactica, i won't hold it against the show if it stands on it's own merits.

This Trailer does not really give me much in the line of insights into this new series.

Just for curiousity, has there been any information on the villians of Stargate Universe yet?

That does look very BSG-ish. But then, it's far too early for the show to stand on its own, comparisons are inevitable.

There seems to be a stargate shot there; is it me, or is it another new one (white chevrons?) for this show?

Yeah, the chevrons looks white and differently proportioned to the old gates, as well.

Yep. Definitely white chevrons. And frankly while what I've so far heard about SGU doesn't sound too promising that trailer has far too little information to judge the show OR compare it to any other in my opinion

Assuming the ramp leads up to the Stargate the way we're used to and ISN'T ludicrously long (and tapers to horizontal at some point) yes, it seems that Stargate is considerably smaller than the standard ones.

Still seems big enough for a Puddle Jumper, if only just. Also seems like they had a really rough trip through the wormhole. Or at least out the receiving gate. I have to concur as watching it(before reading this thread) that it has a BSG feel to it.

Ofcourse I didn't loathe Atlantis as much as everyone else did, the last season and a half were rather flat, but I think the ending to the Ancients Replicators was really a high point of the season and sort of a refreshing step away from it's parent show's brain bugs(their plan worked, despite worries that it was too dangerous, their problems were solved with a massive explosion rather than Dues Ex Machina, and the fleet battle was the best in the series).

Everything we've heard and seen of this show is very, very preproduction. Even this clip seems to be a really rough cut that was rushed out in an attempt to keep people watching the channel after BSG.

Humm. That gateroom looks to be a very similar layout to Atlantis (two floors, upper floor looking down on the central area from railings) to me, too.

Conversely, it's nice to see that this gate appears more in line with the more geigeresque ancient devices.

Since its suppose to be able to dial multiple galaxies, maybe it displays a different constellation set for each galaxy they are dialing.

So is it just standard SGC procedure to shove a whole bunch of people including civilian workers into a barely explored distant location with a large likelihood of being cut off? They did this with Atlantis too.

Well the spoilers say... Spoiler
They head to the Destiny as a last resort after their original bases "Icarus Base" According the patches visible in the teaser is attacked. Apparently Rush figures out how to use all nine chevrons. Though what I don't get is why they won't just flee to earth or an alpha site instead of an all new 9 chevron address

Well that would explain why so many of them have apparently fallen down after exiting the gate.

Maybe they were just experimenting with the 9-chevron dialing as the base was attacked. And [enter technobabble reason here] they could not disengage the gate.

Or a gate malfunction (agian...) that dialed the ninth chevron.
Many reasons are possible, includin writers fiat.

They were unable to dial Earth because of... quantum.

Possibly, although what I've read is that the ship is following another ship that has already seeded the galaxies. I'm a little apprehensive about the normal stargate dynamic of there at least being some "big bad" in the show being lost with all the travelling around, I haven't heard anything yet about that. I hope it isn't Alien of the weeky about it.

I had wondered if perhaps they were going to do a galaxy a season to keep the background fresh.

They say it's going to be about the characters, hopefully they've thought about their characters a bit more than on Atlantis in that case.

I won't judge it on 30 seconds of jumpcut footage that looks very unfinished. I'll live it into theres a few episodes before I start hating/loving it. As far as I can tell from the things that have been said it could be good, just as Atlantis could have been good as well. Depends on what route they decide to go down with the series.

Not yet and I've been wondering about that, too. As I said in an earlier SGU-related post, the nature of the Destiny's mission and their sojourn from galaxy to galaxy makes it difficult to have any longtime recurring foes other than in what's in each respective galaxy. Of course, they may always piss off someone enough to cause him/her/it to pursue the Destiny to the ends of the cosmos, but we'll jut have to wait and see.

Anyway, the trailer's a little annoying (seems like a bad B-sci fi film), but this has potential, methinks.

He's a famous British actor Spanky, seen in such movies as Trainspotting, The Full Monty and The World is not Enough and The Beach as his highlights.

Most recently he was in Eragon and 28 weeks later.
