No prep. Pretty lazy... which explains why I failed entrance exam- I'm pitifully slow at math in my head, esp in middle school.

The Brooklyn Technical High School in NYC is pretty good. It is one of NYC Spcialized Science High Schools, admission to which is based on a special exam, the SSHAT, which all 8th graders take (basically, you get a certain score on the test, you get in). It's way too big (4600 students), and has a lot of dumb people. However, it has some of the smartest people in the country.

And, speaking of dumb people, I'm about to start writing my senior thesis (basically your bog standard college thesis, 80 pg. minimum, +plus a proposal and an outline). I'm considering doing it on Fundamentalism in America.

By the way, this means that I'm going to dissapear for a while, at least till may (first the thesis, and then the AP exams).

As for SAT exams, I've got a miserable 1380. Most people I know did much better than that (at least mid-1400s, and a couple of 1500s). But I tell myself that I got this beacuse of 1) I absolutely cannot do math and 2) Because I haven't been in the country long enough to get to know the language too well.

As for the NYC school of 1500 that has the club, that would be Stuyvessant HS, our arch-rival. And no, their education techiniques are no different than those of other high schools.

Have a very nice day.

Sure wasn't my HS Schenely... our text books were all ancient and they only cared about the International Baccalaurette program and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre kids. My Earth and Space text book was pre-Viking II and my Civics textbook mentioned current events including disturbances in the Soviet Union and East Germany... :(

Jesus Christ..........this pisses me off.

All High Schools should have equal access to resources. My High School still uses the fucking chalk board, ancient books, and the computers....ohhhh the computer still use DOS as the primary OS.

Now that's said I'm glad at least some of us are getting a decent education.

Kamakazi, just to piss you off, our school has a contract with Intel, and all our comps in the lab (like 35 of them) are 2Ghz :D

That specialized HS' pdf file was pretty much a large test-taking guide... Not too informative :?, and I hate how the IE plugin hogs all the memory...

If anybody is interested, my school's report card is at http://www.abcusd.k12.ca.us/srcards/whitney.pdf

Scroll down to the part about SAT scores :D

Same here at Lowell HS in San Francisco, except it's with Dell, and maybe Apple.

Speaking of which, I think it was one of the top CA schools, but I'm not sure if it is anymore.

My high school had hordes of IBM and Dell machines of varying types. The ones on the Media Lab had Ultra160 SCSI drives for video editing (Avid Xpress DV), or various OpenGL cards for the Lightwave machines. We also had a Media100 box plus a bunch of other neat equipment that cost $$$.

The other labs were mostly vanilla machines with a variety of gear (mostly for Office, some light graphics work for the Freshman computer course, various programming languages and some statistics).

My brother's school, Palm Harbor University High School, is also one of the best schools in the nation. Illuminatus Primus also goes there, IIRC.
Yeah I do.

Well, I suppose in light of what everyone here is saying I can't call it a truely great school, but I happen to think mine isn't that bad. It's certainly the best in the district (Columbus Public, ugh), by a long shot. Small school (averaging one hundred students per grade=~400 students) Great teachers, mostly (Mr.Tracy being a significant exception). No sports. Rules are really relaxed: if you don't piss off anyone, you can prett much wear what you want, bring any piece of tech in for your own use, etc. Chess team is great. As in, national competition winning great.

Yes it is. Until a few years ago, an test was required to enter. Now they just look at your SAT9 scores and California Writing Test scores.

Fairfax county schools are even richer. Hehe. Pity that I'm in one of the more cruddier schools in the county- still good compared to what I've heard about elsewhere. The problem is housing is insanely expensive, since so many people are moving in. The population is 900000+. Ugh.

The state has the GDP of France, but only 65 or so percent of the population. There around the 1 trillion mark IIRC.

Our school isn't actually rich; we can't even afford a football team.

The comps were donated by Intel, IIRC.
