The Porn Debate: Ron Jeremy vs Pastor Craig Gross

Have to say my favorite part was when he claimed that someone who watches porn goes out and commits violent acts. I dunno about the rest of you but I get that feeling after a really good action movie, not after a porn, where I head to the bathroom.

Getting horny from watching porn is okay. Getting "the feeling" that you want to commit acts of violence after watching an action movie may require you to rethink your entertainment policy. I'm sure you must have meant that you feel a rush of excitement from action films, rather than bloodlust.

I think it's something in between. If you watch too many action films, you can start to daydream about yourself being the protagonist in such films. That's more than a rush of excitement, but it's less than a serious urge to actually commit violence against real people.

Sounds like it was intended to be a circus all along, rather than a serious debate. The minister will probably employ one of the four most popular attacks on pornography:

1. "Pornography is degrading to women."
2. "Pornography causes sexual assault."
3. "Would you want your daughter to be a porn star?"
4. "Pornography is for sad, lonely men, losers, and men who are unhappy with their marriages."

I watched the Nightline debate posted and all four points were brought up, but the most ironically moronic argument was that porn is harmful because those who participate in filming it are then shunned by society. As in they think that America being overrun by prudes like them is to blamed on the porn industry.

I've heard the same "logic" used by racists and homophobes before: they use their own bigotry as evidence for their position. For example, racists told my wife and I that we should not get married because "interracial marriages are frowned upon and you will be discriminated against" (yeah, by people like the assholes making this argument). Homophobes also say that "homosexuality is wrong because gays are statistically far more likely to experience social alienation and become depressed or commit suicide" (again, by the very people making this argument).

What I mean is that, while Wong is right here in a few rare cases, is that I cant see how porn is more disruptive than any other medium. Seriously, we have horror flicks which actually show the murder, rape, etc, and yet porn gets the bad rap?


As for racist, homophobes and bigots in general, they are always right...in their own peabrain and there is nothing that anyone can do to prove them wrong. They have to come to that conclusion on their own. They will use every logical, and when that fails: illogical and assinine, argument to 'prove' their point.

It was great. Craig made every moronic claim that you guys thought he would (degrading to women, it's a fantasy... etc). Ron actually wasn't that bad at debating. He cited almost every claim he made with an article, which he had the moderator read each time. Craig had absolutely no evidence whatsoever - bringing only a list of porno titles to shock the audience with (Ron called him on that, actually). Craig opened his argument with something to the extent of "I'm not against your right to look at porn, I only want to help people." He then preceded to attack it with overdone and moronic arguments, and Ron refuted each one.

Overall, it was a lot of fun.

The funny thing about Ron Jeremy is that, as much as you want to think of him as a sleazy goofball, the guy is actually pretty intelligent. I remember hearing him on Howard Stern talk about getting his Masters degree in Special Education from Queen's College. Stern then tested him and asked him to diagnose frequent "wack pack" (just Google it) guest Beetlejuice (a microcephalic dwarf, the type that used to be referred to as a "pinhead"). Without missing a beat, Jeremy answered that he's a microcephalic dwarf.

If he would just wear a damn suit to events like that, he might start to win people over with his well spoken manner.

On a side note, I got handed the CleanHeart Software on the way out. Oh boy... I haven't got a chance to check out the software, but the packaging is hilarious. I'll share some excerpts when I get the chance.
