Mammoth bugers, anyone?

IIRC, a mammoth carcass was discovered in Russia in the late 1800's and after a few experiments, you know what they did?

THEY ATE IT!

Screw science, let's eat!

Hell yeah man, I just hope it tasted good.

That said, let's clone these damn things. Nothing like having huge, shaggy elephants roaming the vast, barely inhabited plains!

LOL! You make me laugh sometimes.

I wonder if a cloned Mammoth would be a functional animal, since it would be raised by non-mammoths. Sorta like a goose taking care of a duckling.

Indian elephants are close enough related that if you mated the two, you'd get about 90% mammoth.

The last time I went to Florida, I saw plenty of mammoths on the beach. It was horrible ...

I remember hearing on some discovery channel program some time back that if they breeded an elephan tand wooly together, after three or four generations they'd have like a 99.999% wooly mammoth or something. Details are a little fuzzy...

But they would not have the "culture" of the Mammoths. That was lost a long time ago. Unless elephant behaviors is extremely close, I think we would end up with a "Indian Elephant Washed" mammoth.
