ITT nerdlings say the dumbest shit. Let's call it the Sonic Screwdriver is Ubiquitous show, because that's a common plot element I personally don't like!

But the others were just a bit "here and there" compared to Rose "Super Doctor Angst" Tyler. Even when she wasn't there, the Doctor was angsting all around Rose left and right, come Martha or Donna or the end of the world...
Pretty much. I didn't have anything against Rose from the get-go, though at first when I heard that Billie Piper was playing the part i'll admit my expectations weren't high but she did well enough in Eccleston's time and in Tennants first season. It was only after that that I think the Rose obsession got far too much, the blame of which lies at the feet of other people, most likely the producers.

Yeah, god forbid he actually might remember a companion for more than four episodes.

Seriously, wtf? I would have been pretty pissed off if they did not at least show him struggling after the loss of the most important person in the whole universe, especially considering the strong bond between them. Also, where has he been "angsting" over Rose all season 3 and 4?

Where did I say he should instantly forget her? I don't remember there being as much about, say, Martha though. It did seem at times though that there was far too much about Rose, especially in the last season. We can just agree to disagree as by your own admission you liked Rose and I wasn't a great fan, so I highly doubt this is going to go anywhere.

LOL! Are you saying it was 'too much' because MARTHA didn't get the same treatment? It's like you didn't even watch the fucking show. The Doctor's relationship with Rose and his relationship with Martha might be different. Complaining about something being over-used because it sucked in the last season is redundant - the last season sucked. They made Jack and Sarah annoying and stupid in the finale too, remember?

But oh poor boy conceeds because he can't discuss his opinion.

Why would there be so much about Martha? It wouldn't make any sense.

Martha willingly left the doctor, Rose was ripped away from him (literally). Then there is the point of them being different when it comes to their impact upon the doctor - Martha was the girl he picked up and who stayed on. Rose OTOH was his major focus point after his depression. Just look at how Ecclestone acts when asking Rose to stay with him in the pilot and the way Martha and the Doctor behave in the S3 premier. There is a world of difference here. Oh, not to mention that the Doctor had some...shall we say...intense feelings for Rose, whereas he barely noticed Martha was female in comparison?

If the doctor would spend as much time grieving over Martha (who is one phonecall away) as he did over Rose (who is sealed off in a seperate dimension and inaccessible for all eternity), then it would not only fly in the face of logic, it would also make no sense on the emotional level.

I was using Martha as an example, and if you even bothered to read all the posts you'll see that Thanas says that he likes Rose. It's highly unlikely him and I will come to an agreement. I don't the way Rose was used later on, that's it. Yes the last season sucked, that still doesn't take away from the fact that they RTD has to keep using the same sodding stuff over and over again. It wouldn't even have been quite so bad if the big build up with Rose had amounted to anything meaningful but no, it just seemed like an excuse to bring Rose back to do what exactly? It seemed she was there just to be there without actually doing anything meaningful. A symptom that all the later two parters had, the second part always seemed screwed up somehow.

Eh, I was talking of the situation in S3....before RTD had a braincollapse and decided to invalidate every bit of character development he made in S1-2.

No, I like Rose in S1-2 and would have infinitely prepared her staying there instead of having her character butchered like they did in S4.

Why? I am not a crazy livejournal shipper afterall.

Neither do I, but I fail to see how that makes it the "Rose Tyler" show. She is a companion. Certainly the most important one for Doctors Nine and Ten, but a companion. Not the main character.

Now that I can agree with.

Anyway, as has also been said, I wouldn't be surprised if in addition to the Master we also get the Daleks and Cybermen again. I'll swear that since Eccleston's time, the Daleks have been used more times than all the previous Doctors combined, though I'm not going to swear to that.

Every Doctor has had a story with the Daleks in their line up due to their popularity but the new series simply cannot let go of things even when they have wrote themselves into a situation which denies them coming back. The Daleks are a prime example of this when they have been wiped out in 3 of the season finales and yet the possibility of them coming back is woefully likely.

I'm not sure about that, did Troughton did have a Dalek story? I know there's a documentary on the "Destiny of the Daleks" DVD where even early on in Hartnells run that Terry Nation felt they were getting overused. Let me check. Mmm, even Troughton did according to Wiki of all things. Davison, Colink Baker and Sylvester McCoy seem to have had the least Dalek stories, bar minor appearances in things like "The Five Doctors" of course.

The old Cybermen seem to suffer from the same problem from what I've heard, but I've only ever seen "The Invasion" from Troughton's era and "Earthshock" from Davidsons.

Yep, every Doctor has had a Dalek story. Troughtan's first venture was a Dalek story (the BBC were concerned as to how a change in actor would affect the series, so they chucked in the Daleks to help it along) and it wasn't his last (I think Victoria's first story was a Dalek one).

This was all before the Daleks turned into the idiots that Pertwee encountered :shudder:

As for the final three RTD stories, it's inconceivable that the Daleks won't feature at least once. I would also expect Captain Jack and the Torchwood massive to appear. You'd hope Rose would be spared a final desecration but who knows what goes on in the dark depths of RTD's mind.

Hartnell had the original dalek story, not to mention the Dalek Master plan and the Chase.

Troughton had power of the daleks and IIRC evil of the daleks.

Pertwee - Day of the daleks, frontier in space, planet of the daleks from memory.

Tom Baker - the classic genesis of the daleks, also the much maligned destiny of the daleks. Off the top of my head I can't remember much more.

Davison - resurrection of the daleks

Colin Baker - Revelation of the daleks

Sylvestor Mccoy - Rememberance of the daleks

Paul McGann - well not dalek stories on screen any way.

And yeah, I also thought Romana (both of them) were more interesting companions than Rose (not to mention that Mary Tamm and Lalla Ward were gorgeous looking ladies) and Sarah Jane Smith would be the quintessential companion. I am not quite sure about Tegan though, what with her pseudoAustralian accent (ok it could be real for all I know, granted I have never heard an Australian speak like that, but that may be because I don't live in Queensland)

Dude 'Destiny' isn't 'much maligned'. It turned an interesting one-off character into something that totally ruined the Daleks for nearly a decade (and continues to ruin them to this day). If Rememberance hadn't been such retro-punk mythical success (which it very nearly wasn't) it'd be like, every story between Genesis and Dalek sucking because of fucking Davros.

I mean, suicide kamikaze Daleks in a quarry? Fuck off Davros.

I was being ever so slightly sarcastic about Tegan, she was a wee bit less annoying when she returned after a break but still wouldn't be classed as one of the best. Liz Smith seemed to be interesting though I've only got two Jon Pertwee stories with her in it, Spearhead from Space and Inferno and she seems to carry off the role quite well.

If you want more of Liz, look for The silurians. Its available in the "Beneath the surface" collection which also showcases "The Sea Devils" (another Pertwee story) and the Peter Davison story Warriors of the Deep.

She was actually Australian, so while her accent was atrocious, it was genuine. It was Peri whose accent was fake, irritating, and inconsistent.
Other companions who would do well with a revisit IMHO, are Jo Grant and Ace. Also, Jamie and Victoria in some regard (if only to get an idea of the actual explanation of what was going on with 2 and his TARDIS in The Two Doctors, though the season 6b explanation works well enough).

With regards to a big giant Clusterfuck for Tennant's send off, I'd really rather not. I'd like either the rise of a new enemy, or the return of a classic we haven't seen in the new series to date. The toymaker, perhaps. He did promise to reconstitute himself and come back for the doctor, after all.

Tegan I felt improved as a character after Arc of Infinity. I can't say she was ever my favourite but not the worst. Jo Grant I've not seen in any story though I've seen her rather infamous Dalek picture. :) Ace, well I've only got one McCoy story and thats Remembrance of the Daleks.
