You know, they are on a trend of letting fans work on books lately - Dr S and the ICS/ITW, the guy who is on the Atlas, the guy who worked on the encyclopedia, etc. If they let Publius writhe the next essential guide to characters, or let me have a go at the next EGW&T or EGV&V you would see some pretty awesome stuff.
I thought Dan Wallace was doing the Atlas?
With Jason Fry as co author, same as how Dr. Saxton "advised" for the ITW books.

QFT. It's why I have mixed views on David Weber. He seems able to capture scale decently (probably due to being intimately involved in the rather detailed Starfire table-top game), but the last thing we need is somebody writing a bunch of Mary Sue admirals that come off as cheap Thrawn clones.

Dan Abnett.

The idea of what Abnett could do with Star Wars combat on the ground makes me squeal in girlsih fan glee. Especially considering he's pretty much a complete right angle to Traviss' idiocy.

I have to second this. In fact, Abnett is already writing stories about bands of rebellious fighters shooting at walking tanks with their glowing-bolt-shooting pew-pew guns, and he's doing it well.

Also, I find that Turtledove would be an acceptable, if not ideal, choice for writing about Twilek slaves and Imperial scientists. Think about it.

Jim Butcher would probably do pretty well at writing entertaining Star Wars stories, if not good ones. He's nerdy enough to get the background right and fanservicey enough to make it feel slightly larger than life in a pulpy sense. (Nobody mention Coruscant Nights.)

"Unquestionably, Dr. Who is MUCH lighter in tone than WH40K. But then, I could argue the entirety of WWII was much lighter in tone than WH40K." --Broomstick

"This is ridiculous. I look like the Games Workshop version of a Jedi Knight." --Harry Dresden, Changes

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

Sandy Mitchell would work well as a SW author.

George Mac Donald Fraser. if he was still alive. I wanted a Jedi Flashman, dammit!

"Save the Universe? You must be joking. Where are the dancing girls and lum, dammit!"

George R.R. Martin would be okay-He has a good sense of scale, isn't afraid to kill off his characters, and is excellent with action and intrigue. He just takes a fucking age to write a book.

As previously mentioned, SM Stirling would do a good job, and Ben Bova wouldn't be bad either.

What about someone who already works for LFL already? I like Abel G. Peña.

I saw what you did there.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

I second Sandy Mitchell and Jim Butcher, and would also put forward Larry Bond, or as I like to call him, a good Tom Clancy.
