Third SG-1 DTV/SGA DTV Updates

Post by JME2 »

From Gateworld
There’s finally progress on the third Stargate SG-1 movie, with news coming out from multiple sources over the last few days that MGM has officially given the film a green light for production. The movie is expected to film in 2009 — probably in the fall, to avoid too much production overlap with Stargate Universe.

“I can almost guarantee we are proceeding with the SG-1 movie this year,” executive producer Brad Wright told GateWorld in an interview last week. He said that deals are still being worked out, but he still plans to make it the same Jack O’Neill-centric film he first teased last year.

He said that the Atlantis film is also still in the works, and MGM has every intention of making it.

“When we start shooting the Stargate SG-1 movie depends on whether we do the two movies back-to-back,” Wright elaborated during his on-stage Q&A with executive producer Robert C. Cooper at the Creation convention Sunday. “The Stargate SG-1 movie will probably start shooting in the fall. I say ‘probably’ because there are a lot of deals that have to be finished being put in place before that can actually happen. That would leave the summer [of 2010] as the release time, roughly around the same as Continuum.”

Stargate: Continuum debuted on DVD and Blu-ray at the end of July, 2008.

The new movie is currently being written by Wright and Carl Binder, and will feature Richard Dean Anderson as O’Neill.

“I had a story idea that really worked with O’Neill,” Wright told the Vancouver crowd. “And it’s not just his character, by any means. It’s a Stargate story that brings O’Neill back in a big way.”

“The movie has been green-lit,” Anderson told his official fan site, RDAnderson.com. “There are so few details beyond the ‘go ahead,’ but I sat next to Charlie Cohen and across from Brad Wright at dinner two weeks ago (the cast dinner for the launch of Stargate Universe), and just an hour prior to sitting down to mediocre cuisine, Charlie had announced MGM’s intention to make the next Stargate movie.”

Producer Joseph Mallozzi reiterated that, although Stargate Universe and the SG-1 movie are moving forward right now, the studio still has every intention of producing the Stargate Atlantis movie. He and writing partner Paul Mullie are writing the script for that project, and hope to have the first draft done by the end of April.

“No firm production dates for either movies,” Mallozzi said, “but if I was a betting man, I’d be looking at this fall.”

Here's foolishly hoping that its not another dues ex machina/reset switch like the last two. At least RDA is back. That ought to be fun.

I remember reading a few years back that they wanted to a follow up episode on the Aschen from the 2010/2001 storyline. I imagine they don't pose much of a threat now.

I also wouldn't mind finding out what's become of the Ori. We haven't heard anything beyond a single line in Atlantis last year.

Eh. That can easily be fixed. Give them poor FTL, but otherwise high technology, and they'd fit everything that's been said about them. Hell, their 2010 'create a star' stuff indicates they operate on a scale only the Asgard and Ori have been seen to match.

Wasn't it a plan of the Aschen to turn Jupiter into a second sun in '2010'? If so what would they have gained from that?
I can imagine that another big lightbulb would have had consequences for earth...

And they had really scary medical knowledge. They killed all Goa'uld with some sort of virus, cured the Jaffa from their dependency of Goa'uld larva and doubled the lifespan of humans and removed the ability to procreate at the same time.
And they had computer with the ability to compute when a solarflare would appear.

Hopefully the Ori and the especially the Priors will be shown on humanitarian missions.
Afterall they do have magical powers to cure whole planets (though that might be because they were the source of the plague...).

And the Stargate Programm should finally be forced to go public...
"Bring your thousands, I have my axe."
"Bring your cannons, I have my armor."
"Bring your mighty... I am my own champion."
Cue Unit-01 ramming half the Lance of Longinus down Adam's head and a bemused Gendo, "Wrong end, son."

I'm pretty sure. They've been statements saying there's no plans to use the Aschen. Probably on Mallozi's blog. Which is a real pity because if they realised it next year. It would be actually 2010. The perfect time to revisit it.

They were trying to extend Earth's growing season and turn it into another 'farm planet'.

That whole plan never made any sense. They build up the infrastructure of Earth and double the lifespan of all the current inhabitants so in a century or so they get to tear it all down and make a farm planet?
If I had something interesting, profound or incredibly stupid to say, it would go here.

They outright say Earth is overpopulated, though. And in-universe, they may be right. The only people who manage any kind of greater population seem to be the Asurans, who've full on ancient technology at their disposal, and have no or at least, little, need for food.

I'd like to see the Aschen revisted as well; perhaps the Aschen get their hands on Ori tech abandoned when the Priors and their armies fell back after Ark of Truth?

The problem with the Aschen coming back as a super-force is that it'll inevitably require yet another deus ex machina to get rid of them in the space of one movie.

Unless they're the new enemy in SGU...

Who says an uber force? They're undefined enough that they could actually be defeated by military action, especially if you throw in the Jaffa nation and ex-Ori allies.
