40k Ships [and Photoshop Request]

Post by Venator »

Note - I claim no credit for any of the work displayed herein.

Someone on another board posted this:

Warning, large image.

It's got some really fantastic renders of Imperial warships (although the scaling is about 50% off in cases).

Aside from wanting to share, knowing that there's some 40k fans here, is anyone proficient enough (and possessed of the free time) to remove all the grey bars so we have the raw images? None of it's solid colour, as I found to my dismay when attempting MSPaint-fu.

Thank you good sir!

There should be an option on the PB uploader for "Reduce to:" - setting it to "1 MB file size" ought to fix or at least mitigate resize issue.

Someone give this man a free internet (or the skull of a mortal enemy, impaled on the demon-summoning icon of a wrathful god... given the subject matter).

Is that what 40k ships look like?

These are just some of the ship profiles from the BFG rulebook coloured in. Full thing available from the official site here.

This is how everything in 40k works, and that's what makes it fun.

Who scaled those ships? Because the weapon batteries on the battleship are bigger than the equivalent bits on the cruisers. My understanding was that the ships were in scale with each other (whatever that scale happens to be). Am I mistaken?

Batteries tend to increase in range by class - 30cm is standard for Cruisers or smaller, 45cm for Battlecruisers/Heavy Cruisers/Grand Cruisers, and 60cm for Battleships (with exceptions, usually noted in text).

The scale is fairly accurate, at least in relative terms - going by pixel-scaling from the stated 1,500m of the Cobra, I got just under the 5km Cruiser average for the Dictator. I don't think there's been much commentary about the dimensions of other ships, save the 7.5km figure for a Retribution on that Starship Dimensions site... which still lists the DSII at 160km.

No, I wasn't talking about stats. I was talking about the physical size of the miniatures. Battleships and Cruisers use the same part for weapons batteries (and lances and launch bays). As I understood it, the miniatures (excepting Attack Craft) are in scale, hence my question about those images - the blocks of weapon batteries on the Retribution are bigger than the equivalent block on the Dictator. Granted, that image has those arches between the weapon batteries on the Retribution, which aren't present on the miniature, but that's a different issue.

Ah, I misunderstood - as someone mentioned previously, these are derived from the rulebook illustrations much more than the models.

It's not "put a snow plow on the front", its "Take a ship and flip it upside-down, then replace most of the hull with a cathedral!"

I fully support a 40k anime about Battlefleet Gothic.

I want it made by the guys that brought us Outlaw Star.

Because I want to see the Planet Killer punch a planet to death.
