Its basically a HS/College simulation of the UN.
You're usually assigned a topic and country, given time to research for it.
Then you have to work with representatives of other countries to find a solution to the problem.

Really quite fun and interesting.

No, but we do get to argue endlessly, and when it comes to voting, you usually end up with a tie.

Food is horrible in most cases though... :?
One very nice thing about it are the girls though :D

I remember going to MUN conferences in Berkeley. I thought they were a lot of fun, but half of my team didn't even go to the conference itself. My friend (who was also named Mike) and I were the only ones there who treated it seriously from our team. It was great, though. I got to argue with everyone, and no one ever passed a damn thing. The girls were great, too. Much better than Speech and Debate. There was this one delegate who everyone on my team just drooled over. Since she represented Malaysia, we had lots of comments like "I'd like to put the "lay" into Malaysia. There are actually a lot of really perverted comments that you can make depending on what country someone represents. And my friends almost got into a fist-fight because one of them wanted to watch porn and the other one didn't want to because he thought we'd all get in trouble, so we ended up watching a crappy concert.

The next day, we found out that our advisors had been watching porn in the other room with the other members of our team. D'OH!

This was fun back in High-School, Mostly because I represted Russian(Before Putin got in power of course) so I got to suggest lots of nice Russian solutions though I alwats refered to it as old SU for amusement

Example problems
There are to many contrys viloating Kyto, What can we do to convice them to abide by the agreement?

My answear- The Soviet Union would like to suggest that all Countrys that do not meet the Treaty requirments within the next two years will face stiff fines, And if not conformed within the next five years they will face heavy sanctuions(Everyone nodding) and if they do not coform within ten years(Pause...) WE WILL FILL THEIR COUNTRY WITH NUCLEAR HELLFIRE!

Must sessions went like this with Russia and China teaming up with good solutions until that last sentance

I participated on the UW Oshkosh team. Represented Algeria at a conference in New York City. The team won one of the eight "best delegation" awards. Pretty impressive when your competing with over 3,000 people from at least 150 schools.

Yes, I'm a member of Model UN. Last year our delegation won the Secretary General Award at the Columbia University/UN HQ conference.

Why are you asking?

Have a very nice day.

Ha!

I once said the same exact thing to a friend of mine who had participated in it once.

I could have tried that, but I was seated in the far end of the room, so no one would see me. :(

The chair always overlooked us when we asked to speak.

Nothing like this at my school, yet we have the Goal Setters Club. Shame, I probly would have done that instead of Academic Decathlon if the option had been avaliable.

And hey, if it's anything like the real UN I could build up chemical weapons, not do a damn thing they say, and ride appeasement for a dozen years.

Pretty sure it was the Pace.

I have fond memories of one of our delegate leaders throwing up all over Grand Central Station, and myself spending most of the conference in an alcoholic blur. I still managed to get a couple of resolutions passed in committe, though. Don't ask me how.

Last year I represented Russia on the Committee on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. It was fun, especially the second day when we discussed money laundering.

"There is no organized crime in Russia".

This year, I don't yet know what I'll be representing, but I nkow it won't be Russia, since they dojn't allow you to represent the same country twice.

This year, there will be 1,000 people at the convention. It will be held at the Javis Center in NYC! Hurray! :D

Have a very nice day.

my Mock UN didn't do too bad, I was one of the Russians, and I imedaitly set about making contacts, and getting informants placed in all of the other camps. *I guess I was the Illegal KGB officer*

Mock Congress was where they actually banned me my Junior year (For the Remainder of the Junior Year, and the Senior year+College Freshman)

I scored Most effective Delegate, and a ton of extra credit points for having a mock assassination (The guy playing the Pres, setting in on cogress was a waste of DNA, and an Idiot), he wouldn't role play his position, and we couldn't get any bills through without paying him off.>

So my solution, was to get someone to bring a Squirt gun into the College Assembly Hall where this all took place.

oh migod, he's been shot!

The Vice President quickly turned out to be more reasonable.
Unfortunatly my patsy turned me in to campus police.....
