Caught Up With "Primeval"? [SPOILERS]
Is anybody here still watching ITV's Primeval? This show is a million times better than the lacklustre Jurassic Park sequels and the BBC's disappointingly naff Robin Hood, and while it lost its way somewhat in its second season I really think it has returned to form in the last two episodes (where Helen Cutter is getting even more dangerous, see a G-Rex dinosaur stamp around, and notice that the character shields are weaker than in NCIS).
We also getting somewhere with the mysterious Anomalies: we learn that they can be sealed up by a electric current and have always occurred throughout Earth's timeline, with prehistoric (or future) creatures turning up in comparatively recent human history and mistaken for mythical beasts.

Re: Caught Up With "Primeval"? [SPOILERS]
I can't say I'm very impressed with this series compaired to the previous ones.
Although the creatures themselves still seem quite good some of the other affects (The lightning in the Egyptian episode) seem quite primative.
I did not see Cutters death coming and we do seem to be finding more about how the anomilies work but it just doesn't seem as interesting as it used to be.
The new characters the soldier mostly seem to be entirely lacking in personality although the Detective has potectial if he can stop being Batman.

I don't know it seems to me to be yet more of the standard "Our modern guns and rocket launchers are useless against the awesome power of fleshy prehistoric creatures!" fare I'm so sick of.
If I had something interesting, profound or incredibly stupid to say, it would go here.

Re: Caught Up With "Primeval"? [SPOILERS]
In all fairness the guns they tend to bring WOULD be largely useless against the bigger specimens that wander through the anomalies because they generally DON'T bring rocket launchers. Remember they generally try to shove the beasts back through the anomaly ALIVE thanks to Cutter's 'we don't know what happens if we alter history' doctrine.
So far, I rather like the series. And I, too, didn't see Cutter's death coming (assuming it is for keeps).

They're hamstrung by trying to keep it secret, too. It appears we might get some decent army-stuff next episode, anyway.

Re: Caught Up With "Primeval"? [SPOILERS]
I'm still quite liking Primeval even if the core characters are almost as inept as Captain Jack's team of reprobates, the writing can get goofy and repetitive, and the CGI can be trite in places. I don't think much of that new soldier (who is just scenery) and at least Deep Rising's Jason Flemyng actually does something.
With Helen Cutter and her clone army of Phil Collins, I'm begining to wonder if she's got some serious outside help (and it could not necessarily be human).

I wonder where/when Helen came across those Spoiler
I think season3 is shaping up to be pretty good, I seriously need to catch up (I just saw the first episode of S3).

Mostly because I ended up writing up a game rule describing the Horror Movie Monster phenomena when applied to prehistoric animals. First thing that had to be done for them: quadruple the armor.

Throughout the entire first season, the Torchwood Short Bus spent their time actually causing the problem in all but one episode. The Primeval people aren't anything like that dumb - it's a whole other world of stupid.

I'm still watching it, and liking it most of the time.
Cutter's death was surprising, but why another government agency working with anomalies ? They could have given Helen a more pronounced role.

Whats the deal with the Spoiler
?
Re: Caught Up With "Primeval"? [SPOILERS]
Judging from the graphics they give when its being swung around it seems to be a small anomaly in a can. The material its made out of is presumably magnetic to keep the thing contained.
The question is where the anomaly leads to.

He's just making a lame Superman reference because it's shaped like a crystal, and superman's Fortress of Solitude worked something like that.

That would VERY much surprise me The Fortress of Solitude is the Big Blue Schoolboy's hideaway in DC Comics and its spin-offs so I assume this is a reference to the artifact/artifact effect visuals being similar to the crystal technology used in the Superman movies and 'Smallville'.
(For me, Cutter's death happened only two episodes ago so I'm not all that familiar with the thing yet).

Wow. I think I'm scared now. I'm used to being at LEAST half a year behind most everybody else what with dubbing, airing rights and price squabbles and whatnot.

The anomaly in the can almost looked more like a map of the anomalies instead of an actual anomaly. Kind of like that big metal tubing thing Cutter had.

There is no real reason to assume that was the original Cutter dieing. The interactions of the dieing Cutter where completely inline of what the Clones where shown to be able todo with thier limited sapiency. Never mind, we could have a temporal-clone come out from no where or an actual clone take his place latter.Raesene wrote:Cutter's death was surprising

Re: Caught Up With "Primeval"? [SPOILERS]
I happen to think Primeval has gone progressively downhill since it started. It was never top drawer stuff, but the first season impressed me with some nice locations and a reasonably entertaining and tight plot. The more it goes on the more it seems to be loosing it's cohesion, the last few episodes especially seem to have been a matter of random stuff being thrown into the mix just to try and excite the viewer. I'm constantly shouting at the team for the idiotic security precautions they seem to take (which seem inexcusable given they're an officially sanctioned government agency with a good sized detachment of trained soldiers for their own personal use).
I certainly hope the threads start coming together and making more sense by the end of the series.
