It can when every third article is written by a blithering moron.

TVTropes used to be an amusing site, with quite a bit of truth. I've spent hours of my life browsing it. Now, it's just painful to read, and articles like the one SAMAS wrote are the reason why.
Alright.

It's not "TVTropes sucks because it lists similarities between fictions," it's "TVTropes sucks because it does a piss-poor job of it."

Have a very nice day.

So then ignore it? Let people who still enjoy TVTropes discuss about it while everybody else goes on about their merry business?

Actually why let it go?

Seriously, it's a site that used to have something until everyone with an internet connection thought they had something to offer. And besides, SAMAS brought it up, and thus opening to scruntiny. Really if anyone is to blame, it's the moron who brings it up only to find there's detractors for many a good reason.

Because it interferes with the aforementioned people who still enjoy TVTropes and their pastime. I doubt you could care, why would you? But everybody has thoroughly gotten their opinions across and appear (at least to me) to only post in this thread to bait and flame SAMAS. What is the point?

Alright, but is continued flaming necessary after the person has already understood your opinions? I get that it is a major theme of this board to flame people for stupid opinions and reasoning, but I always thought that was a rule in the way of Versus debating or Moral debating. Not when somebody wants help to refine their their opinion and reasoning from a second party, and not over a silly hobby.

So you're saying we shouldn't criticise something that's fucking stupid, even if someone else brings it up and makes totally unsupported claims of it's relevance or success (like 'LEGO BLOCKS OF FIXSHUN')? If he'd started out with less of a smarty cuntrag attitude nobody would have cared because god knows people here post on dumb forums/topics all the damn time. I'll refer everyone to the early posts, where people actually tried to help and before he started down this 'immune to criticism because I like it' and 'is a totally legitimate area of study for fat people convinced of their intellectual superiority' nonsense.

Not MY fault his religion is dumb as fuck. Turns out publicly editable + popular with nerds and/or teenagers = broken.

I stopped replying to SAMAS primarily because I did deliver my point, and SAMAS didn't get it, and I realised that he would never get it. I have nothing against him personally, but it's clear that he likes the trope wiki enough that he thinks we're all wrong. Think about the inherent contradiction here: I complain that the trope wiki encourages the perception that all fiction is made up of interacting tropes, which SAMAS disputes, only to follow up with a 'Lego Art' analogy that confirms that he does feel this way. At this point, it's clear that SAMAS is defending it purely because he personally identifies with this 'troper subculture' - note the frequent usage of 'we'. It's essentially the same kind of fanatical brand loyalty that plagues many fandoms, but this is just plain self-indulgent in comparison. SAMAS has essentially made the assertion that because they do it for fun, and because it's entertainment, the trope wiki and its tropers are immune to criticism, which is broken reasoning and frankly quite irritating.

Guess what? Fuck them. This is not TV tropes. They can't handle the critism here, they can fucking leave.

Simple, isn't it.

Again, he opened it to the board. If someone cannot handle the board's attitude towards this principle, the door is right there. So far the only retort I've been seeing is "It has some okay things!!!". Really, when Shroom can provide a decent point of why the site sucks, it says a lot about it.

All you're doing is demonstrating how fucking thin skinned some get over their particular hobby gets flamed by people they will never fucking meet and the need to have acceptance from said group for whatever reason they want to create.

What the site needs is simply quality control, preferably done by some fascist like Goebbels or Speer or something. TVTropes is one of the places that really does need a Gestapo or something.

Seriously, my eyes roll every time I read those real-life trope examples and have some LAEM Troper give out some analogy from his or her daily experiences that no one gives a fuck about. Jesus Christ, what kind of literary analysis is that? Fucking...
