You should do that after the Byzantines demand their Sonic Cruisers!

They cruise at M.97, but can go supersonic easily.

Basically, very fast 777.

So Shroom, is BAM also gonna pay for the HUEG airport facilities upgrade costs in order to use that thing?

Maybe it can be like the A380, only big airports can use it? It just looks cool, mang.

I mean, I even found this ready-to-post photoshopped image:

Goddamn you Zor!

(Nice one :P)

EDIT:

But yeah, let it be known that CATO is no longer the Continental Alliance Treaty Organization (as the Shinrans pointed out, we're no longer just in the OC). We are now the COMBINED Alliance Treaty Organization.

The Combine!

OVERWATCH!

STRIDERS!!!

*bhooooot!*

[Though I guess it makes sense. CATO incorporates all the states from the SNC, a considerable group of Shroomanian Commonwealth and FUN states, and a few from the Frequesean Economic Community. We're a Combined Alliance.]

Those are the Zorians' crazy thinggies. And you know how the rest of the world views Zorians as all weird and coldly unnerving.

It stands as a testament of CATO's awesomeness that all nations, great and small, gay and nay, can come under the banner of brotherhood and stuffs. From FABULOUS *swishes hair* Shroomanians to crazy Crimson-Shadows to the *whatever* Zorians. :P

So, some thoughts came to me as I slept, as they sometimes do, and I got to thinking. The NFT got to wiggle out of the whole Neutrality Pact thing. But what about Baerne? They don't have that excuse. Now, I don't think the old CSR signed it either, so that probably gets the UCSR off the hook, and I don't recall about Byzantium. But I'm pretty sure PeZookia and Shroomania were signatories, and they'd be just as responsible for enforcing Article 5 as anyone else. But they didn't exactly try to stop anything, did they? So that issue is still very much alive for anyone who wants to run with it (Indhopal, perhaps?).

Incidently, under that interpretation the NFT gave, you also justified Tian Xia going into the CFR. They weren't signatories either. Thought you should know.

I'm not going to run down that road, sorely tempted though I may be. Instead, in the interests of patching things up, I'll have one of those Hallway Conversations that seem to be so popular in this summit with King Paul, where I pitch to him a joint proposal to launch the ISCA. There was some half-hearted attempt at it in the start of the game but it didn't go anywhere. So this time we'll give it the ol' college try. The whole standardization thing would no doubt reduce costs and help out on maintenance, so that can be the selling point. And of course the money to be made if nations were to start replacing existing hulls with the new, ISCA standard ones. So you can go that route, make your own government-run merchant marine (my personal plan), or whatever else you feel the need to use these ships for.

Additionally, all those nifty ISCA spreadsheets from the last game can be used again. Recycle! :D

Other things are on my mind too, but those will come at a later date.

Well, at the moment, my own merchant marine operates a wide range of ships, that I haven't bothered to get around to make a count. And standardisation will be bloody slow if we do come to it. Though, I would point out that standardisation might not achieve much in terms of cost-savings.

I would also point out that the reason there isn't really such an organisation in the real world is because every yard from Amsterdam, Norway, to S. Korea, Japan, and China protects their design secrets and are less than inclined to shared them. This is a competitive business, with lots of ships sold yearly.

I think ISCA would need a new mission in this new, more realistic world. And a new mathematical model for determining construction capacity, since the old one sucked ;)

I'm not sure what such a mission could be, hence why I didn't propose it yet.

Also, I frankly don't remember signing any Frequesquan Neutrality Pact. Perhaps I just plain forgot :P

Well, the ISCA could form a bloc of international shipping companies and they would concern themselves with negotiating with governments en-bloc similar to what IATA does, which represents airlines across the world.

HAY ROGUEICE AND PEZOOK!

Shroomania was one of the founding members of the old ISCA back in the day, so we'd be interested in going into it this time round.

Should civilian nuclear-powered ship technology be allowed to proliferate under the ISCA? Shroomania and San Dorado have launched two giant nuke-powered cruise liners, the Queen Asphyxia and the Tyrannic (with Emperor Heraclius as its bow statue!).

Also, Shroomania is looking forward to get a whole shitload of ferries and stuff to further connect it to Canissia and PeZookia, as part of the Canissia-CATO Cross Continental Connection.

Lonestar, dude, it's a Zorian proposal for a soldier kit, not "new CATO kit" :)

It's unlikely this will ever be accepted.

Czech, as Tanvarika is a signatory of the (admittedly not very solid) Treaty of Hasiyah, it would behoove Emmeria to at least check with Cascadia as to whether they will support or oppose a blatant "regime change" operation there, particularly as Tanvarika occupies a strategically-important point between Adabani and the Cascadian holdings of Welles Island and Van Halstoff Territories.

I'm not saying we'll snarl angrily and threaten reaction, we may even give you a wink and a nod, but if you just boldly launch yourselves into the situation without regard for standing agreements and Cascadian interests we will probably not react well.

You mean a world with Miranda Moonbeam, a certifiable Prime Minister, and, well...pretty much anything Shroom does? That more realistic world?
PeZook wrote:And a new mathematical model for determining construction capacity, since the old one sucked ;)

Well we could try the shipbuilding thing. Relatively cheap shipping for all these new developing countries we're finding, plus that whole investment in infrastructure thing coming from a multinational source of money would probably work. Plus they can help mediate disputes and stuff.

We have two multinational space agencies that are remarkably effecient and don't get bogged down in petty political crap from each of the member nations, trying to advance their pet project or get a bigger slice of the pie, or whatever. Compared to that, I'm sure we can make some kind of ISCA work, whatever form it ultimately takes.
PeZook wrote:Also, I frankly don't remember signing any Frequesquan Neutrality Pact. Perhaps I just plain forgot :P
Happens to the best of us. And c'mon, it certainly sounds like the sort of thing you would've signed, doesn't it?

Under the ISCA setup of old, everybody got a piece of the pie regardless. Heck one could advance it as an olive branch, what with the Byzantines building ships for the Old Dominion, Shinra building for PeZookia, etc. Without the politics involved (if our space agencies manage to avoid that, surely the ISCA can too).

And if the shipyards complain, you can always nationalize the bastards. (Yes that's tounge in cheek)

Hm. Didn't know about the Treaty of Hasiyah. As far as I was aware, Tanvarika was pretty much just another low-rung hispanic-asian junta. Also, where are Adabani and your holdings? I'm operating off of what passes for the most recent veleria map (the one marina posted in the map thread), so I might be outdated in my information. Didn't mean to be callous; just didn't know you actually had territorial interests in the region other than New Olympia.

I'll see about working a diplomatic communique to Cascadia regarding Tanvarika (whose military I have actually been -buffing- in preparation for being beaten down by Sino-German might) into my next post.

Firstly, the North Velerian population is primarily Arabic-Persian in ethnicity, not Asian or Mestizo.

Secondly, I suppose I should just post my Veleria map again.

Quick question regarding the map of Nova Terra; given that its actually somewhat smaller than Earth, don't the continents seem somewhat far apart?

I mean, the map seems to be about 80% ocean (perhaps even as high as 90%, at a guess) to our Earth's ~70%.

Doesn't that strike anybody as odd? It should certainly make exceptionally long-ranged naval assets almost invaluable...

Well, there's simply far less land area than in OTL Earth. And yeah, geography makes power projection even more costly than in real life. Too bad, but you can't fight geography :)
