We thought about that, but dismissed it as too many rules. It's kinda clunky as is, I think.

Again, bear in mind no one here is obligated to take the whole ruleset I developed from SB.com. It's what worked for us, but it is also 5 years of dealing with powergamers, retards, and spammers, and in a few cases trying to identify "what-ifs" that wound up never being problems. So I'd recommend some modification.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Note: I will only be able to play after 20th of May.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Non-Aligned Capitol Warships:
Non-Aligned or Independent Shipyards would include shipyards that belonged to no particular governmental faction, either supplying any customers regardless of affiliation, such as SoroSuub or Loronar; or, restricting sales primarily to specific parties in local sectors. Examples of this would include the Tapani Starship Cooperative or MandalMotors and Mandal Hypernautics. It would also include starship designs that might have originally been intended for use by a particular faction, but became traded, stolen, or bargained so much over time as to become, essentially, public domain. Examples of this would include such designs as the Nebulon series of Cruisers, and the Damorian Carrack, or the Strike-class.

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

That list needs updating, because the Viscount is now at 19km.

I call dibs on Kuat, failing that, Correlia or Fondor or Mon Calamari, and if really failing that, Korriban.

Question: How much are fighter wings and space stations in points, exactly?
Conversion Table:

2000 Mockingbirds = 2 Kilomockingbirds
Basic Unit of Laryngitis = 1 Hoarsepower
453.6 Graham Crackers = 1 Pound Cake
1 Kilogram of Falling Figs - 1 Fig Newton
Time Between Slipping on a Banana Peel and Smacking the Pavement = 1 Bananosecond
Half of a Large Intestine = 1 Semicolon

Do you hold parlimentary debates in these ships or something?

And I would again stress that we hold off on calling for worlds here. Everybody wants the sexy planets like Coruscant, Corellia, Kuat, etc. But let's think about it: in some alternate universe where the Empire and New Republic pretty much wiped each other out, what makes you think these major planets are worth much any more? I'd say we need to figure out the premise of this game before we start dividing up worlds.

Um, you realize those ISD Vs and ISD IIBs are the "faction specific" ones, right? We don't even know what they do unless somebody goes digging through SB. And which planets are your "homeworld" and the three "major worlds" apparently close by? And so on.

IOW, I think declaring OOBs is a bit premature at this stage. :)

Yeah, remember this was for the SB.com version. Some of those ships are modified versions approved in our game.

If you see initials after the ship, that means it belongs to that faction:
SAS =Sovereign Alliance of Systems (my faction, capitol: Naboo)
SWE =Shadow Walker Empire (An Ancient)
UAP =United Alliance of Planets (Keshy)
GC =Galactic Commonwealth (DPDarkPrimus)
MF =Moddell Federation (Corp)
FrA =Frontier Alliance (Lightning Count)

There's a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. There's also a couple custom Bothan fighter designs, the -190 and the -109 (nod to WW2 German Luftwaffe, obviously) which are Bothan-produced versions of the Belbullab-22 fighter, and a heavier, stretched version for a bomber. Some of those designs are custom-made for specific missions; I don't recall the ISD-V's specs but I remember "shopping" for ship ideas at one point and turning it down for my faction.

I didn't realize that those were the faction-specific ships, no. But this is more of a "test" OOB; finding out if I've understood the rules correctly, things like that.

Plus, I like making OOBs. Don't know why. :)

Am I the only one who thinks this is definitely getting a little complex and rule heavy? Unfortunately I have an essay due tomorrow, so it'll about 24 hours minimum before I can elaborate in any detail, though.

I'd like prices in points for fighter wings and space stations, but other than that it seems fairly straightforward. In any case, it'll probably end up like SDN's World, where the rules ar emostly waved in favor of a general "If it makes sense, do it" mindset.

Hey Coyote, how much are fighter wings and space stations in points? It seems to only be written in credits or something.

We didn't worry about fighter wings as long as people didn't try to spam out ungodly numbers, so there's no point system for fighter wings.

I thought that space stations were given point values? I thought I was pretty thorough.. they should cost slightly less than comperably-sized starships, since they don't need to consider massive engines and hyperdrives in their construction.

You're right about the space stations, actually...I read the ship list at about 3:00 in the morning; it must have slipped past me.

Thanks for the info!

Gah, I wish I had time to put aside an hour or so to go over the rules, work out my concerns, and reply to a number of posts. I'll hopefully have time tonight or tomorrow. However, I should mention that I at least will probably not be able to get an OOB up (whenever we reach that stage) before Monday at the earliest.

I don't have time to go through all the rules in detail and critique them again, and frankly, they sound mostly fine as they are. Just to get things moving, and since its fairly obvious what the poll result is going to be, I propose that we accept Coyote's rules, with the following minor changes:

1) The "police ship" catagory is removed for the reasons I suggested,

2) Players can choose to build less than ten shipyards, to start with,

3) We come up with a new backstory (this isn't really nessissary, but I figured we could come up with something better which would also keep ours from being a carbon copy of the Spacebattles one. But if everyone's fine with it as it is, no big deal either),

4) We leave times in game a little vague, because if say, a week in real life equals a month in game, we'll have odd situations where a ship takes weeks to cross the galaxy in hyperspace, right?, and

5)We lift the requirement on all a faction's worlds being near eachother, unless someone cares to explain why its relevant with hyperspace speeds.

If this is ok with everyone, I can put up an OOB thread on the weekend. Oh, and I reserve the following systems: Tatooine, Dantooine, Kessel, and Geonosis.

All of those make sense, though it does seem reasonable to start with one's worlds near each other, if only for ease of mapmaking.

Regarding No. 4 - We should avoid a hard-and-fast time scale for specific events; though one must certainly be used for ship build times, design research times, etc.

Do we even need to make a map? Unless someone picks a very obscure world, or makes a new one (are we allowing that), then can't we just use any of the many Star Wars maps one can find by searching Google Images?

However, I can live with this requirement if its nessissary for reasons of mapmaking conviniance. It probably won't affect me with the worlds I've chosen, since going from memory they're all in the same area.

Fine by me.

Oh, one other thing: are we allowing custom ships or worlds? I'm thinking maybe they'd have to be approved by a game mod. Or if that's too much trouble, we can leave it as it is. Its just that one of the most fun things about STGOD's is designing your own military hardware, and if people can do it in other ones, why not this one?
