I wasn't sure whether to post this in G&C or AMP, but Vanas' thread went in G&C and got some good traffic so I shall do the same. I was posting this on a wargaming website to get some feedback and I thought I could share it with you guys; Warhammer Fantasy doesn't get much of a look in here, everyone is 40k mad!
I started this army in October and it's the first miniature painting I've done for 6 years or so. I used to play 40k back then, and my friends and I left the wargaming hobby and spent a lot of time playing RPGs (Exalted mostly). Said friends were mostly Warhammer Fantasy players (square-basers!) and I was immediately drawn to High Elves.
I'd like to update this thread as I continue towards my 2250pt target, and perhaps also to post some observations or discussions on WFB tactics and balance.
So far I have:
Mage (Complete)
Archmage (Assembled)
Noble (Assembled)
Unit of 15 Spearmen (Complete)
Unit of 10 Archers (Complete)
Unit of 14 Swordmasters (Complete)
Unit of 5 Dragon Princes (Complete)
Unit of 15 Phoenix Guard (Purchased)
Repeater Bolt Thrower (Complete)
Repeater Bolt Thrower (Complete)
Chariot (Complete)
Dragon (Purchased)
Planned Units
One unit of White Lions
There's a lot of tidying up to do on these still, missing gems and stuff. Here they are in all their high-resolution, unflattering glory:

Damn you and your painting putting mine to shame.
Looking good though, the detail's great. Really nicely done, all of them. I think I'd go crazy just jumping in there with people with detail needed like that, think I'll stick with my killbots for the practise.
Come to think of it, I really need to update mine, I've finally got around to making both squads and have started customising a Lord.

According to wikipedia, "the Mohorovičić discontinuity is the boundary between the Earth's crust and the mantle."
According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

I played HElf for about a decade and was cursed. My HElves had THE WORST MORALE IMAGINABLE.Acidburns wrote: I'd like to update this thread as I continue towards my 2250pt target, and perhaps also to post some observations or discussions on WFB tactics and balance.
As soon as I was forced to take a morale check it was all over. It would be a mexican wave of retreat flowing across the field as unit after unit failed their checks and thus caused the one next to them to check.
This is, despite HElves having the best morale in the goddamn game.
In terms of tactics - the classic oblique line works well with HElves as you have some decent range to your archers and warmachines and some devastating cav in the form of the Dragon Princes.
More regularly however, I went with the skirmish line tactics. Archers and Spearmen (ideally Lothern Seaguard under the old rules where you could have both Elven Longbows and Elven Spears and split ranks to shoot and spear in a single action) to hold the line and use chariots and cav to disrupt the enemy.
Not sure how powerful magic is in the new system, but HElves used to have some really heavy shit and it was always well worth it as magic was really your war machine, not the repeater bolt thrower.

Doesn't that honor go to the dwarfs? IIRC HE base leadership is 8 with 9 and 10 leaders available, whereas dwarfs have base 9 with 10 leader available. Granted there might have been some shuffling around in different editions.weemadando wrote:This is, despite HElves having the best morale in the goddamn game.
"Death before dishonour" they say, but how much dishonour are we talking about exactly? I mean, I can handle a lot. I could fellate a smurf if the alternative was death.
