Germany´s and Frances Warplans with Irak

Post by salm »

has anyone read that? i cant find an english link only a german one

http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/0,1518,234330,00.html
(serious recource, no tabloid)

it basicly says that chirac and schroeder have been working on a secret plan on war with iraq since the beginning of the year.
the plan is:
uno soldiers invade irak and ensure that the weapon inspectors can do their job.
at the moment the plan is discussed with russia and china.
the uno soldiers would basicly take over power in irak for the next couple of years until the search for weapons is completed.
the 200 000 us soldiers stationed around irak will be there for intimidation pourposes.
irak would be a protectorat of the uno and saddam only a formal ruler.
saddams regime going down would be apreciated but it´s not a primary aim of the plan.
very strict controlls would enable the economic ban and would keep irak from smuggling ois which is a high income for irak at the moment.

is today the first of april? it sound like it´s no problem for un soldiers to just march into irak and take over power. dont they think that this will end in a war just like when the us would march in?

Sounds like rubbish to me. For 'UN soldiers' to go into Iraq then they would be French and German (no Americans allowed), and while both nations are certainly capable of mounting an attack (although the German Luftwaffe isn't the best right now, France's is much more well equipped) and have excellent equipment, I doubt they have the military resolve to follow through if a real fuck off balls to the wall fight starts.

I figured that since they're the ones proposing the plan, they'd front the majority of the troops- I doubt other countries want to put their fighting men into harms way, if they did- it would be a very small force- probably at the battalion level.

Never happening. The United States has a great big fat VETO on the security council. The administration will never accept a plan where the UN runs the show during the war. Americans will never participate in a UN war an American general isn't leading, because the population here will never accept American soldiers being under foreign command.

The plan doesn't call for a war- it calls for UN troops securing a UN protectorate over Iraq and having US forces outside the country as intimidation.

The US will veto it anyway. And how do they plan on establishing a protectorate in Iraq without a shooting war to begin with?

You honsetly think that they can just walk in there and invade and Saddam is gonnna bend over and kiss thier ass? Espcilly when with them there they could not hide as much and envtualy they would find somthing And-da have a cause to remove Saddam for power(A cause they would accept anyway)

Nevermind they could invade but they don't have the logisitical support NOR do they have the permision to stage out of anywhere, Turkey, SA, Isreal and Co have all given it to the United States and the UK and whoever they bring with them, Not France and Germany so they are fucked in three ways if they auctal went

It reeks of colonialism, besides. "Intstead of toppling your leader and establishing a democratic government, we're going to leave him in power as a figurehead while we run the show from Paris. We promise not to force you into a bunch of oil contracts that are favorable to France. Pinky swear."

this is still unfug. it says un soldiers, not german and french soldiers only. the force would consist of soldiers form loads of countries, including the usa and britain.

anyway i dont think it´s going to work because the us will never agree to it, and even if they agreed it´s still not like the irakis are going to surrender, just because the soldiers wear blue helmet instead of us/british camo.

Even if the US would support it which is highly improbably they would make sure US and UK compsure was atleast 65%.

Sounds like a load of crap. It will never happen and is infeasible politically, militarily and economically.
