I would love for that to be true, just to see the ludicrous Nazi Metal Gear they would inevitably come up with.Drooling Iguana wrote:The Boss in WWII, maybe?
I remember the first game mentioning something about Solid/Liquid's backstory in the Gulf War, that might be interesting to explore where you have the player switching perspectives between both... and of course seeing the also inevitable Iraqi Metal Gear.

Been done in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. It features Naked Snake and his entire support network from MGS3. The FOX Unit goes rogue, so Big Boss must take them down. It takes place in the San Hieronimo peninsula in Colombia inside a secret Soviet missile base in 1970.Vympel wrote:Big Boss/ Naked Snake in the 1970s - 1980s?

Kotaku and other blogs were also saying that the announcement could be about a special edition of MGS4 called Oxide just like MGS2 Substance and MGS3 Subsitence. Supposedly for the 360.

I will eat my nonexistent hat if it's to announce a 360 version of MGS4. There's been rumors of such a thing since the first time MGS4 was announced.Stargate Nerd wrote:Kotaku and other blogs were also saying that the announcement could be about a special edition of MGS4 called Oxide just like MGS2 Substance and MGS3 Subsitence. I don't know. I thinks it's unlikely, but the rumors of Microsoft's money hats to third parties never die out.General Zod wrote:I will eat my nonexistent hat if it's to announce a 360 version of MGS4. Are they still going on about that? Fanhards are fucking persistent.
I actually liked Metal Gear Solid 4 for doing things largely not Metal Gear-y. You know, things like being fun, trying to be a "game" rather than a "movie". At the very least I like MGS4's approach to "tacticool" gun play. Amazing what you can accomplish by just *not* having conefire?
Hopefully they'll tell the hardcore series fans to go drown themselves in a pool of their own stupidity. You know who they are. The ones bitching about "Metal Gears of War" and other mindless complaints about how MGS4 wasn't MGS3/2/1/etc again.

You skipped through all the 30+ minute cutscenes, didn't you?CaptHawkeye wrote: You know, things like being fun, and at the very least closer to a "game" than a "movie".

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
I have precisely zero interest in the game's nerd-pandering storyline. Their were occasional character bits that I liked. It's just that Kojima tries too hard.General Zod wrote:You skipped through all the 30+ minute cutscenes, didn't you?CaptHawkeye wrote: You know, things like being fun, and at the very least closer to a "game" than a "movie".
EDIT: The delivery is the worst part, you could cut about 10 minutes dialogue out of every cutscene and still get the point across.

Yeah, see, this is why saying it's closer to a 'game' than a 'movie' doesn't work. It still has the stupidly long cutscenes every three or four hours.CaptHawkeye wrote:I have precisely zero interest in the game's nerd-pandering storyline. Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
Not watching a majority (or even more than I think 30 minutes worth total) of the cut scenes gave my friend and I a hilarious completion time discrepancy. He took more than 8 hours to complete the game. I took 3.
Another Metal Gear Solid game? If it's just an expansion on 4 that's one thing, but I can't imagine what's left for their (*ahem*) story. It was all dealt with, wasn't it?

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
MGS4 had two of the five chapters as little more than a small area which led directly to a long, overly detailed cutscene. Which led to a second tiny zone leading to an additonal overbearing cutscene.
Chapter 1 and 2 were about the only ones with -more- than a half hour's worth of territory. Hell, the only reason the game clocks in at 8-10 hours for most folks is because it's 6+ hours of cutscenes, and the timer counts almost every second. (Including post 'install' "Press start to continue" time)
If it's any indication of the future of the franchise... then it's going to die a quick death. [I can't imagine Konami not trying to release at least a few more Metal Gear games. It is one of their more popular franchises, atm...]

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
And let me guess. This will be Hideo Kojima's last game in the Metal Gear Franchise?
I mean, he seemed to be doing everything he could to wrap up the story, continuity, pacing, or basic logic be damned.
He turned Snake into an old man with one foot in the grave, killed off all the villains, and had both Meryl and Raiden (possible sequel characters) settle down with their families.
I wonder what tech the game will wank to this time? In MGS1 it was genetic engineering, in 2 it was computers, and in 4 it was nanomachines.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
What? MGS4 might be a steaming pile of fanservice crap that's massively overrated by a worthless gaming press, but so long as it makes money they'll never ever stop and anyone who thinks otherwise is stupid. Frankly, if they go to a less stupid setting for 5, I'm going to consider 4 being Kojima saying 'how fucking stupid can I make MGS before people stop buying it'.Andrew_Fireborn wrote:MGS4 had two of the five chapters as little more than a small area which led directly to a long, overly detailed cutscene. I was just thinking how awesome it would be to go all Oklahoma beach as The Boss with all the cobras fighting along side you. Then I remembered The Boss actually gave birth to Ocelot on the beaches. Which rather cuts down on the ass kicking potential.Drooling Iguana wrote:The Boss in WWII, maybe?

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
I've hated the boss's back story ever since I heard it. She gave birth on the beaches of Normandy? Yeah that shit makes sense.
How much more wank do they want to slip in while they're at it? Actually I shouldn't act like they stopped there. Because they didn't.

Not to mention the fact that she has scars from a caesarian that look like a snake that goes all over her entire torso. Incompetant doctor or what? Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
Bad camera and shoddy controls were always the biggest failures of the MGS series. MGS4 fixed both issues and actually expanded the gameplay so that you could decide yourself how stealthy you wanted to be. Hell helping rebel forces win was major fun in itself. With the exception of the boss fights, MGS4 improved on most things compared to MGS3.CaptHawkeye wrote: I actually liked Metal Gear Solid 4 for doing things largely not Metal Gear-y. Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
Actually, strictly speaking she may have given birth any time between June 6 and August 30th, and at any number of places in Northern France. The only things we know for sure is that she gave birth during the invasion of Normandy and that she went into labour in the thick of the fighting, but the Operation lasted three months and there was lots of fighting through all of it. I figure the commanders decided that she was so badass that being pregnant wasn't going to slow her down, which was true, and that she could take a day or two off in a French hospital to have the baby after they captured the beaches, but it somehow didn't work out that way.CaptHawkeye wrote:I've hated the boss's back story ever since I heard it. I don't think it's reasonable to expect much competence from an army field surgeon trying to deliver a baby while he's getting shot at. He's trained in stiching-up broken soldiers not obstetrics. Also, while the Boss didn't mention it, it's possible she had taken a few injuries from the fighting, which the surgeon was also trying to fix.Crazedwraith wrote:Not to mention the fact that she has scars from a caesarian that look like a snake that goes all over her entire torso. Updated With Image of Big Boss. Also a snap has been taken of Cyborg-Ninja Raiden, missing an eye.

Big Boss' manly beard of manlyness makes him look badass and sexy.
Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
I keep hearing things about that ninja not being Raiden, but Gray Fox (and you guessed it, Raiden would be a clone/son of Gray Fox). Apparently Fox had red eyes/blonde hair, and it fits with the time line of Big Boss just starting his rebellion. Besides, we all know Hideo loves lolclones.
But 'tis only rambling I've heard on the internet.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement coming soon
I find that bizarre, given that Raiden and Gray Fox look nothing alike ... I don't remember Gray Fox being blonde though.
