Stormtrooper rifles

Hello all. Newbie here, so feel free to flame away if I say something stupid.

Anyway, I've read the thread about the abilities of stormtroopers by the sycophant guy (Ben something, I think). Anyway, I've perused the main st vs. sw sight and not seen this subject yet.

My point is, Stormtroopers seem to have really bad aim. Not only in Tatoinne, but on the original death star also. I'm sure that many of you have played the Star Wars computer games, and the rifles that the ST have are lousy when it come to accuracy. If the games are part of the continuity, doesn't this mean that they really do shoot bad.

ps, I seem to recall that in the Star Wars Galaxy game (which is cannon, unless I'm much mistaken), stormtrooper helmets obscure vision and make accuracy difficult, but I'm not positive on this.

AOP. Act of Plot. Thats the largest reason Stormies don't have very good onscreen accuracy.

That aside, I'll answer your question:

A. SW computer games are neither canon nor official.

B. They have bad vision because they have a holographic projector build into their helmets.

c. Yes, they suck, yet they were good enough to hunt down and kill Jedi. Go figure.

The stormtrooper helmet obscures vision if it isn't fitted correctly to the wearer. If fitted properly, and the wearer knows how to use it, it offers numerous vision enhancements such as infrared and probably other forms of nightvision.

The stormies on the Death Star were lousy shots because they'd been told to let them get back to their ship which, as you will doubtless recall, had been fitted with a homing device.

I don't recall a scene on Tatooine with the stormtroopers, unless you mean the boarding party that took out Princess Leia's transport. Actually, if you watch the movie again, you'll note that the stormtroopers are laying down MUCH more accurate fire than the Rebels, while shooting from the hip as opposed to aiming. Blaster carbines are meant to be a "spray and pray" weapon to a certain extent regardless, given that the power packs have a capacity of upwards of 100 shots, the blasters come with multishot and full-auto settings, and each trooper carries multiple powerpacks for when he uses one up.

Every instance of the Stormtroopers "sucking" has a reasonable explanation, like Vader wanting Leia to escape in ANH so that the Falcon could be tracked back to the rebel base.

How many times does this need to be repeated?

Oh, yeah, beofre you bring it up, the hologram projector is clumsy and unwieldy, presenting vision in a 3-D form. The reason Luke had problems seeing out of a helmet in ANH, I believe, was because he either had the projector out of focus or he had it turned all the way off.

This is also why I feel the Tatoine troopers were so incompetent:
They were stationed on a backwater planet, and the Empire wasn't going to waste skilled warriors on Tatooine.

Those weren't Storm Troopers. Those were Clone Troopers and they were specially raised as combat soldiers. Many Storm Troopers are volunteers.

Clone Troopers are much different then Storm Troopers. We have plenty of visual evidence indicating this.

No, their armor is different. How does this equate into two different things? Even Thrawn used Clone troopers. Or is it Clonetroopers?

What you "feel" is not canon. Clones are a totally inefficient way to raise an army. Recruits are much quicker and cheaper.

While the clones will most likely be incorporated into the imiperial army, this does not mean they are the entirety of the army.

I know, I know, but, really, do you actually believe that Lucas is gonna change the whole thing just for us fans? No. I REALLY have a bad feeling about this. I'm sure there are some recruits, but the bulk of the army, maybe 80%, will probably be Clone troopers, like it or not.

Ummm...Lucas is going to rewrite canon well above anything else(Wong had a thread about this)

And unless he does some serious retolling...Stormies are not all clones of the same person, and even being all clones is debatable.

Uh yes we can...canon visuals actually are against him.

He has said they are Jango Fett clones(all of them because of the whole head bump incident within ANH and AoTC...literally he wanted all of the Stormies to have some quirk and there it is)

And unless they grew Jango Fett in wildly different sizes...his own visual are in complete disagreement with him.

I know hes going against whats canon, but I've got money riding that the Stormies are clones. I mean, Lucas ignored the entire history of the Sith War, whats to prevent him from ignoring a small inconsitency in ANH???

The Sith war is EU...he can ignore it because as he said...it's up to him.

Saying the Stormies are all Jango Fett Clones(remember that literally is what he said in his own way...ala Jango Fett bumps his head, Stormies bump their heads...thus Jango Fett=Stormies.)

But he isn't going against Eu now...he is literally going against his own visuals to which he never changed(yet) so as it stands now...he is wrong.
