Shakari System

The First Imperial Fleet came in system three days ago, scaring the living shit out of the Shakari Defense Forces. But as quickly as they came, they left even faster and the Shakari breathed a collective sigh of relief. They would rethink their stance on relations with the Empire. But why had the Empire retreated, why leave them alone? It was a mystery they had no answer for.

Unknown Location

The First Imperial fleet came out of hyperspace and began launching probe droids and a single Lambda class shuttle. The shuttle carried Lord Terest and was en route to the old Sith World of Korriban. The probe droids themselves would go to other Sith Worlds in search of Sith activity. The Emperor had wanted to find any other Sith that remained in the galaxy and see if they could be useful to him.

Korriban

Image

The doors of the inner sanctum opened with the rumble of hidden and unbelievably ancient mechanisms, and in paced Mari Indigo, dark Jedi master and right hand woman of Hariman Jacht.

The ruler of the Sith Empire did not respond to the stirring of the doors, lost as he was in deep meditation atop the ceremonial dais in the middle of the room. The sanctum wavered around the dark lord, as it time and space were rendered fluid by the power of the dark side that coursed through the room.

She approached further, and still Jacht did not respond to her presence. For an instant she considered igniting her sabre and striking down her master, then she quickly buried the thought before her hand could drift toward her belt. She was a master, but he was a Sith and this was his sanctum. This place drew power from the Valley of the Dark Lords itself. Nowhere was Jacht as powerful as here. It was madness to attempt a coup now.

“Master”, she finally made her presence known. “I have urgent news.”

Momentarily the simmering increased and the room pulsed with the power of the dark side, but then abruptly the nauseating waves of power vanished. Glow-globes snapped on, casting a soft orange light on the sanctum. The dark lord opened his eyes, a faint smile creasing his features as if he were amused by something. “A shuttle approaches Korriban. I know.”

Indigo seemed puzzled. “How…”

“There is a Sith of some power aboard. I can feel him approaching through the force.”

“A Sith?” the fallen Jedi frowned. “From the core?”

“Most likely.”

“Why is he coming here? I thought Korriban had been forgotten.”

Hariman Jacht shrugged and got up from the dais, adjusting his dark robes. “Even if the galaxy no longer remembers it the call of Korriban remains strong. It was inevitable the Sith would remember its existence sooner or later.”

Indigo nodded impatiently. “That or they dredged it up from some mouldy tomb or another. Your religion seems overly fond of those.”

Jacht chuckled. “That’s a possibility, too.”

“So about the intruder, do you want me to take care of him?” She tapped on the hilt of her lightsabre as if to emphasize her meaning.

The dark lord shook his head. “No. Move the fleet to the far side of the planet. Let him make planetfall, then bring him before me. We’ll see what he has to say. If he has to say anything, that is.”

“I guess we can always kill him later”, Indigo shrugged.

“Indeed”, leered Jacht. “Now go and fetch him for me. It’s been some time since I had the opportunity to talk to a… colleague.”

Indigo rolled her eyes. “As you wish… Master.”

Korriban

The Lambda Class Shuttle, carrying Lord Terest, landed on the surface of Korriban unopposed. From within, a single hooded figure emerged onto the surface, Lord Terest himself. He moved a few meters away from the shuttle and stopped. He looked around and than stood for a few moments as if in deep thought. He sensed the overwhelming power of the dark side on this world and enjoyed it greatly.

"My master will be pleased.", he said to noone in particular.

He began his exploration of the planet by moving towards the nearby tombs. A strange feeling imposed upon him, the feeling of being watched. The dark side was powerful here, it made sensing anyone especially Sith, very hard. Still, he continued his exploration of the world. This nagging feeling made it obvious that he was not alone. After a short trip across the surface of Korriban, he arrived at the tomb. His mission was to find relics of the Sith Empires of old, artifacts strong with the power of the dark side. His master had informed him, that there could be other Sith hiding on this world. Using the strong presence of the dark side as a shield against detection.

One could not hide their presence for long though, and Terest sensed the approaching Dark Jedi.

"I will suffer no trespass!", he shouted, ignited his double-bladed lightsaber and turned to face the wicked smile of Mari Indigo.

"Hm...interesting.", he said with a wicked smile of his own and retracted his lightsaber, "It seems there is much more than ancient artifacts on this world."

Royal Palace, Theed, Naboo
Reception Hall

The TSAB: Theed
The Night Tutor had finally came to a rest at the Palace hanger Complex. The wind of the night and the mist of the waterfalls was a comfort to the old Naboo national Sabrin's vulpid ears. The message she carried was simple:

"The TSAB council would like to congratulate the Crown of Naboo for the success at bringing former enemies to peace. This is one of the many hopes that the council has for the Galaxy, and would like to talk at greater length with your majesty about the future of the Galaxy.
TSAB Minister Internal Cirrus Writhe and the blessings of the Council"

"Minister Sabrin, please allow me to welcome you once again to Theed," the Queen said, "And allow me to apologise for taking so long to return to you after the reception dinner. I understand all is in order with your arrival?"

"Quite so, Majesty," Sabrin said, "I have taken the time to settle in to my quarters at the Diplomatic Wing of the palace. I must say, Theed is a lovely city. I never tired of visitng here."
"Thank you," Her Majesty said, "I must ask, what sorts of interests are on the mind of the TSAB? The Civil War seems to have finally died down, and governments are stabilising..."

*** *** ***

Gordian Dominion:
“We have sent out our diplomats, Lord”, Durell reported dutifully. “I expect to hear from them anytime now.”...

Results: Introductions are made, the Gordian Dominion sends out diplomats to various powers to ‘test the waters’...
The Gordian Dominion diplomat was made welcome by the Palace staff. He'd attended the Queen's reception dinner the first night, but since then the Queen-- and, in truth, everyone else it seemed-- had been involved in a flurry of activity. It was no surprise that the first person Her Majesty had met with had been Gariel Captison, the only other sitting head of state to attend the reception. It allowed Ambassador Faris Wievell time tio get acquainted with his new assignment.

"Ambassador," came the deep, rich tones of a man used to having a lot of power. Wievell turned to see Governor Panaka, former Imperial Moff of the Chommel sector. "I trust you are settling in?"
"Very well," the Ambassador said, "I admit, everyone is walking on eggshells, it seems. But that is only natural, eh? After the reception, I met a lot of new diplomats from all over, but still no one knows where we all stand with one another-- Imperials, Republics, independent... it's as if no one wants to say anything for concern over opening up some old wound."

"Well, here, Her Majesty feels that discussions about old wounds are academic," Panaka said, "One cannot offend the Empire anymore, because... there is no Empire any more to offend."
"If I may be so bold, Governor," the Ambassador said, "How do you feel about that? Personally, I mean, not as a representative of Her Majesty's gobverment."

Panaka smiled. "I cannot avoid answering as both," he said, "I have served the government for years; back when the government that saw to Naboo's needs was the Old Republic, then the Empire, then --briefly-- the New Republic... and now. The Queen has asked me to put off retirement until the situation stabilises itself, and it appears to be doing so. For that, I thank everyone involved. All I ever wanted was security and stability."

"The new governments are giving that, then," the Ambassador said, "In your opinion."
"A larger, more far-reaching government would be better," Panaka said, "Be it Empire or Republic. But in the abscence of either, the developing trend of patchwork governments, each bringing order to their own small regions, will suffice. Who knows?" he asked, looking out the balcony at the streets of Theed below, "Maybe someday all of it will once again coalesce into... something more."

"To stability and the future, then," the Ambassador said, wishing they had drinks to toast with.
"Indeed," Panaka said. "Anyhow, what does the Gordion Dominion wish to discuss as far as future relations? I will take any proposals to the Queen herself.."

Esseles system
Outer system

Admiral Rowan stared out at the tiny fleet in headed for the edge of the system. The CPS Guardian the elderly Imperial MK I class it's flagship, four smaller Victory-II classe Star Destroyer playing escort to their larger sibling. A full ten Carrack class cruiser's rode the flanks of the Victory-II class. With one playing front and rear guard. An impressive formation in peace-time, but in times like these it was a drop in the bucket. Nothing compared to what some of the various factions and Warlords could throw around. Nothing compared to what he himself could throw together. He had wanted to send three times the force, but due to circumstances beyond his control, he simply could not send more at this time.

He had applied of course, and could if required call in more, far more. Almost a Sector's fleet's worth of ships. He had already sent half a dozen Victory-II's on a similar mission a little while ago. But it was unavoidable, as was this next step, the threat was simply to great.

He turned from the viewport. The MK II's were at home defense, for the time this trip took, his anti-piracy Corvette force would be working close to home. And Corulag was being covered with some assisted by roving enough mobile forces to make it a nasty target. He had to see about upgrading the shield networks ASAP, it was not enough to stave off radars, he demanded two hours of safety in which he could leave any planet naked and count on it being there when he got back. The surface defenses might hold off as many as three ISD's but beyond that it was up to the fighter wings, and never-mind prebattle sabotage. But first... but first he had one threat to remove or at least weaken enough for it not to matter.
No way to do it but in person... He gave the order and the CPS Serenity and the three MK II Star destroyer's riding escort on her jumped into hyperspace.

Tatooine
outer system

It had taken them a bit under a four days to get here. Esseles to Brentaal, Brentaal to outside Denon, then taking the run all the way down to edge of the mid-rim. Then two short jumps to Tatoonie itself. All four ships emerged into the outer reach's of Tatooine where the Rim Allieance had made it's headquarters. The Serenity itself broadcasting diplomatic codes and requesting permission to enter orbit around Tatooine itself. A short note was also broadcast offering a face to face conference with First Consul Kossan Mical aboard the CPS Serenity.

OOC:The CP pre-positions a small fleet of ships to join another small fleet of ships and Admiral Rowan decides to make his first trip abroad aboard an his flagship an Allegiance Class Command Star Destroyer with three MK II Star-Destroyer's riding escort. Yes he is going for a show of force.

Korriban

The fleet had been moved. The carefully hidden defence emplacements remained silent. Korriban must have appeared a dead and barren world as the Lambda shuttle touched down in the wind-swept Valley of Golg to disgorge its single passenger.

For a short while Mari Indigo simply observed the trespasser from the darkness, her presence carefully hidden by a combination of a stealth field generator and her force cloak ability, the traditional methods of the Sith Assassins, long believed lost but now restored to the galaxy. Silently she watched him as he surveyed the landscape, no doubt taking in the awesome power of the dark side breathed by this place.

The trespasser began to move, slowly making his way toward the tomb of the ancient Dathka Graush, either unwittingly or drawn there by the nexus of dark energy that it was. That was quite far enough as far as Indigo was concerned. After all she wasn’t here to let this grave-robber get his way.

She maintained the force cloak, but allowed a patina of her presence creep through, eager to see how much it would take for the trespasser to notice her.
DarthShady wrote:One could not hide their presence for long though, and Terest sensed the approaching Dark Jedi.

"I will suffer no trespass!", he shouted, ignited his double-bladed lightsaber and turned to face the wicked smile of Mari Indigo.
Indigo snorted. Brash, impetuous, dressed in black, and eager to wave his lightsabre under everybody’s nose—yes, he was a Sith all right.

Which meant that Jacht had been right, and it annoyed her to no end. She’d read a great deal about the Sith Order and its ways, and even after her fall from grace she’d never cared much for that ancient religion or its code. Admittedly her supposed master was a Sith Lord, but then Mari Indigo had always seen their relationship more as a partnership than the traditional relationship shared by a master and an apprentice.
"Hm...interesting.", he said with a wicked smile of his own and retracted his lightsaber, "It seems there is much more than ancient artifacts on this world."
“There is”, she replied curtly. At least he had the decency to extinguish his sabre. She’d half expected him to charge at her. He was a Sith, after all. “My master wants to see you. Come with me, if you want to live.”

The trespasser Sith snarled, but followed her without further question to the temple Hariman Jacht had claimed as his sanctum. The dark lord sat on his throne and peered at the dark Jedi and the Sith as they entered.

“Welcome”, Jacht smiled mordantly. He gestured, indicating the temple and its surroundings. “To the Sith Empire. Who are you, and what do you seek?”

Concordat Alliance
Naboo System
Aboard HIMMS Retriever
Nebulon-B Class Frigate
Captain Rafael Cardones Commanding

Image

With a flash and a slight, age-induced shudder (Retriever had been built almost twenty years ago, and had spent most of that time in hard use), the IMN ship bearing the Star Empire's envoy appeared in the capital system of the Concordat Alliance. Taking pains to appear non-threatening, since Manticoran policy was remarkably unforgiving of intrusions of it's territory, the small ship transmitted a short message to Naboo:

"Attention, Naboo Astrological Control: This is Captain Cardones of the Imperial Manticorn Navy frigate HIMMS Retriever, carrying a representative of His Imperial Manticoran Majesty to Her Majesty's Government. I hereby request permission to enter planetary orbit. Cardones clear."
Conversion Table:

2000 Mockingbirds = 2 Kilomockingbirds
Basic Unit of Laryngitis = 1 Hoarsepower
453.6 Graham Crackers = 1 Pound Cake
1 Kilogram of Falling Figs - 1 Fig Newton
Time Between Slipping on a Banana Peel and Smacking the Pavement = 1 Bananosecond
Half of a Large Intestine = 1 Semicolon

"Naboo Orbital Control to HIMMS Retriever; welcome to the Concordat. You are cleared for orbital insertion. You may land diplomatic shuttles at the Royal Tarmac, all other ship-to-shore transit should be routed to Theed Spaceport..."

Naboo N1 fighters were on patrol, unperturbed by the arrival of the Nebulon frigate. In a wider orbit, a pair of ISD-IIs and an Allegiance floated serenely in space, with the command ship blinking the colored lights of a Sector Admiral. A great deal of other ships were in various orbits as well, transmitting IFF codes of a variety of galactic governments, all stopping by to establish their own diplomatic contacts. The Concordat had been cautious and conservative in making contacts themselves, preferring to wait and watch as others came to them before venturing out much themselves...

"Mostly we have had the 'fun' of setting up a government as a bunch of amateurs. Before the fall of the old governments we would never have thought that we would be forced into a position of responsibility as the protectors and peacekeepers of the people."

"However since the general chaos of the fall has begun to ebb we have thought more about the future and how we should attempt to shape it. The news of your governments formation has been the focus of much discussion, and the consensus of that is that we would be pleased to have peace, fortune and understanding between our nations."

The other reasons for wanting contact were clear to anyone who visited Balmorra outside of the Palace or Garrison zones. The unrest was mostly non violent, but prevalent over the planet. It was hoped that with closer ties to a faction that had embraced part of the Republican remnant the ideologically similar citizens of Balmorra would feel some relief. The sentiments and thoughts about this problem had been sent to the Queens office earlier in the day, along with the request that the unrest only be discussed in private.

"Very well ma'am", the captain nodded and the diplomatic corvette switched to a direct transmission with the approaching vessel. In a short burst transmission the corvette presented its credentials as well as its mission: to establish diplomatic relations with the Temporary Stellar Authority of Balmorra.

Result: The TSAB is approached in a careful manner.
The Vice Admiral had arrived on an Assasin not much latter to verify the ambassadors claims and to sooth any ruffled feathers. The rest of Deep Field 7 response Group proceeded to escort the ambassador's vessel to Balmorra

The diplomats were beginning to run as weary as the enforcers had. One more group had arrived with most of the usual list of diplomatic phrases. While it was not too difficult to pass another generic diplomatic proposal, it was repetitive and a lot of hurried effort, especially after the Quickfire's greeting.

Terest was amused. He came to this world in search of ancient Sith artifacts, treasures that had been buried for millenia, what he found was so much more interesting. An actual Sith Lord on Korriban, an actual Sith Empire, his masters suspicions were more than true. Now his job was simple, he had to arrange a meeting between this - ruler of Korriban, and his master. From what he had seen, that might not be an easy task. The Sith Lord here and his Dark Jedi were obviously hiding from the rest of the Galaxy, and he was sure they wished to remain hidden. With that in mind, he knew that if he made the wrong move - they could kill him, to keep their presence hidden. Still, he was ready to do as his Master had commanded.

"I am Lord Terest, a representative of the Shadow Empire, but more importantly...", he paused for a moment, "A representative of the Emperor. He has sent me here in search of ancient Sith artifacts and perhaps a few living Sith using the strong power of the dark side here, to hide their presence. What I have found will please him greatly."

He stared intently at Hariman Jacht and smiled.

"My master would like to meet you, to discuss matters of mutual interest.", Terest said, "Perhaps you would care to visit Koros Major?"

“We of the Dominion are a secluded people, sieur governor, by choosing as much as by our relative geographic isolation. Nonetheless we wish to open diplomatic as well as trade relations with as much of the galaxy as we can--the Governess firmly believes that mutual cooperation is the way to preventing tragedies such as have befallen us in the recent past in the future. It would appear that in this our two nations are compatible. We therefore propose an exchange of diplomatic missions, mutual recognition of each other’s borders, and if possible a trade pact between our two nations.”

The lights of the factory-world twinkled far below the corvette and its escorts as it pulled into station-keeping orbit high above Balmorra. “Sieur vice-admiral”, the diplomatic envoy signalled amicably, “now that we are here, is there perhaps a place where we can conduct diplomacy on the surface? Alternatively we are prepared to meet one of your ambassadors aboard our ship…”

His dark Jedi companion threw him an incredulous look. “Hariman”, she communicated telepathically, “you cannot be serious. Surely this must be a trap.”

“On the other hand”, Jacht continued smiling, “my companion here thinks you are setting me up to be assassinated by your master. Considering how we Sith have historically fared every time there was more than one of us around, that is not a baseless suspicion.” He steepled his fingers. “Perhaps a neutral meeting place is in order… May I suggest the Dark Side Temple at Dromund Kaas? Provided it is still standing of course… It’s been some time since last I stopped by.”

“You would seriously meet with these people?” Indigo’s mental voice managed to convey her irritation and disbelief surprisingly well.

“Of course I would” Jacht replied stoically.

“What of our secrecy? If they mean to do us harm all we have worked for will be for naught because these Sith know where we are”, fumed Mari.

“That”, the dark lord replied, “is a risk I’m willing to take.”

Terest expected them to say no to a meeting on Koros Major, but it was worth the attempt. For now he had only one goal, to arrange a meeting between his Master and this newly discovered Dark Lord. His master would decide on the next course of action.

"The Temple at Dromund Kaas...is acceptable to us as a meeting place.", Terest said, "I will inform my master and he can meet us there, if that is acceptable to you?"

He did not know what his master would do, but Terest was satisfied. He was sure the Emperor would be pleased by his discovery.

SiegeTank wrote: "That is acceptable", Jacht nodded. "Miss Indigo here will escort you back to your ship, which I'm happy to inform you my people have moved to the capital of Dreshdae." He leered. "I hope you understand that I can't let you take any Sith souvenirs for your master, seeing as how they all belong to me now. But you can tell your emperor that I'll be happy to share some secrets with him on Dromund Kaas."
"Very well.", Terest said, "My master will meet you there."

With that Lord Terest turned around and followed Miss Indigo to his ship. Along the way he stopped a few times to enjoy the sites of Korriban and the dark energies present there. He especially enjoyed seeing Dreshdae. "This Sith Lord has managed to build so much in secret, if only the rest of the galaxy knew.", an evil though passed through his mind, "No...such decisions are for the Master to make."

There were other things for him to admire along the way, such as Miss Indigo. She was apparently quite well trained and knowledgeable in the dark side of the force. Terest wondered if he could defeat her. But such thoughts quickly left his mind when they reached their destination, the hangar which held his shuttle.

"It has been a pleasure Miss Indigo.", he said with a smile, "Until we meet again."

He turned and entered his shuttle and was quickly on course for Koros Major.

Koros Major, Imperial Palace, Some time later...

The inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace held many secrets, the energies of the dark side were strong here and the air smelled of Sith alchemy. One could almost taste the evil presence of a powerful Sith Lord. Deep within his inner sanctum Darth Imperius performed gruesome experiments of sith alchemy, developing horrors he would later unleash upon an unsuspecting galaxy, still it would be a long time before such things came to pass. For now he was content to rule the Shadow Empire as Emperor Shady.

"Lord Terest has arrived Master.", one of the servants interrupted the Dark Lord, "Shall I show him in."

"Yes.", The Dark Lord answered with a single word, thinking of killing the servant for daring to interrupt his work. He decided against it, good servants were hard to find.

Lord Terest entered the room and knelled before Darth Imperius.

"I bring good news, Master.", he said with a smile, "You were right about Korriban."

An hour later, having learned everything about Lord Terest's trip and his encounter with the hidden Sith, Darth Imperius prepared for his trip. But he would not go alone. He tapped a button and a within a few moments a hologram flickered to life.

"I have some good news...brother."

The consul was destined for Corellia. Like his fellow consuls bound for Bilbringi, Kuat, Bothawui, and Naboo, amongst others, he was to negotiate a trade deal. The People's Republic was quite willing to deal with both former enemies and former allies. They had become quite mercenary, in fact, and were willing to deal with both sides on any given conflict. Unlike most nations, the consuls were travelling first class, but commercial, rather than utilizing a FDPRN ship.

Chandrila System
Crystal Caverns of Chandrila
Some time ago

Colonel Fox of the 501st careful descended on repulsers down the side of the canyon wall. Over two dozen of the 501st fell slowly with him along with six demolitions experts from the CPS Serenity. The crystal edged sides of the canyon made simple rope descents or climbing down next to impossible. And when their Lambda shuttle had tried to lower itself in the canyon further up those same crystals had made it impossible to get anywhere near their destination. With the Canyon floor lined with shards of those same crystals, coming in it from above seemed much easier.

A thousand years ago a famous Chandrila Jedi had been entombed here, the entire planet had said to have spent a full standard month morning his passing. It had been one of the seemingly unnecessary bits of information Imperial intelligence types like to add. The longest running joke where that such members of the Empire were paid by the word, which is why they both took so long to say anything and with enough qualifications to be impossible to tell what they believed, and why they threw in such random information as a full personal bio of the Jedi entombed. Granted his history had been of interest reading, but personal interest only, it matter nothing to the mission they were undertaking today. One of the last standing orders the Emperor had given the them. One of only two reasons so many of the 501st agreed to server under Admiral Rowan.....

Rocks pattered to the canyon floor lightly in the distance as the point squad made contact with the canyon floor, using their repulser packs to bound forward in great leaps and take positions outside the massive tomb door. Some positioned facing in, others scanning the rest of the canyon. The heavy weapons team touched down seconds later, it's members pushing the grav-sled to the side as they began unloading the pair of E-Webs and setting them up, one on a lighter portable mount, the second man handled by four troopers on a heavier air-defense mount. Another trooper rushed forward already hooking up the power cords to the shield generator that would give the outer E-web cover should some speeder bikes come at them from the canyon or some suicidal star fighter try and run the canyon at them.

If you think it impossible, it will happen to you was almost a motto of the 501st. The last formation left of the great clone armies of the Republic, they were the last produced for those great clone complexes had gone silent and they knew to a man they had but a few years of life left before they would die. Colonel Fox himself had perhaps four standard years of combat effectiveness left. The previous Fox, who had made General before perishing had lasted twenty eight years. But the last year of his life had been a long slide into quiet death. The changes and signs had been as rapid as their childhood had been. Ten months before his dead he out-marched, out-shot and out-fought any clone in the 501st. Eight months before his death he had issues keeping up during the morning five klick run. Six months before his death even a few hundred meter run could tire him. At which point had been retired, Colonel Fox taking his place and sent away to live out what passed for retirement for them. Training new stormtroopers... Three months later, he could only walk assisted. A month before his dead. Fox had been informed that his predecessor had slipped into a coma, a few weeks later that he had died of age related conditions.

It weighed on Colonel Fox's mind that they had so few years left as he touched down, the demolitions experts right behind him. The Emperor's murder's were all either dead or their identities where gone with Imperial Center itself. Those who had stood against him were dead. Those who had stood with him where also for the most part dead as well. The Empire itself, the New Order in the Galaxy was almost burned out. It gave Colonel Fox to know that Admiral Rowan was still faithfully executing the orders the Emperor had given him. Ten officers had been picked, secret orders given on the week before the battle over Imperial Center which was now simply called the Fracture by most. Orders concerning certain sites, certain planets. The Emperor's famous ability to see into the mists of what might be had led him to plan for his own defeat. So they were here, why so many of the 501st were here, because what Admiral Rowan was doing was to carry out some of the Emperor's last commands.

The troopers pushed past him into the tomb, sweeping it, checking rooms, scanning sealed vaultes, breaking some open at random, always checking for ambush, wildlife and hidden traps. There would be none, this was a Jedi tomb after all. But those that were careless died. As life had show him time and time again.

Behind him the demolitions experts set to work, unloading their cargo, carefuly moving the large crates in place, consulting three dimensional floor plans as they wrestled the two man crates into place. Inside was their reason for being here. Elsewhere two techs were making tiny holes in the wall in variuos places, each pinhole had a view of one of the cansiters, or a door, in the burial chamber itself they set four full cameras monitoring the entrance. They moved about to place amplifiers so the cameras signals could get reception outside the cave. Moments later their task complete, the crew moved back out of the tomb, the floor carefully dusted again with some provided from the burial chamber itself. The tiny cameras hidden from view, the holes dusted as well. There were no other entrances into the cave and the burial chamber itself was dug into the solid rock of the planet.

One by one the cameras switched off their broadcasting functions, they would not activate unless movement inside the tomb trigger them, or of the other items now in the tomb went off they would flash their visual data out in millionths of a second.

As they fell back out of the tomb, Colonel Fox inspected their work, to casual or even determined observer the tomb would appear undistributed. The tomb had several additions now, the black cases had been open and the packages inside distrusted on stress points. Once any future visitor got into the burial chamber itself the facade fell. In plane site sat a long black cylindrical object. To those familiar with star fighters, they would recognize it at once as a anti-ship torpedo. Enough to bring down half the canyon or blast holes in starship armor. It had been placed atop the tomb of the Jedi itself. Should anyone come to this tomb, it would not be a long visit, and it would be impossible to hide the fact someone had tried to get into it. A great deal of thought had gone into the setup.

This had been a long time in the planning.... One down, three dozen sites to visit.

OOC:Foreshadowing! Explanation of the 501st's presence with the CP. They server because they believe he is following some of the last commands of the Emperor. Or is he? FYI this happened shortly after Admiral Rowan took control of the system.

(OOC: So sorry for the delay. This post will, provided I haven't missed anything, bring my faction up to speed in its dealings with the Core Protectorate, Imperial Remnant, and Kuat Imperium.)
Thanas wrote:"Your apology is accepted. Now, with regards to the treaties -

The Imperial Remnant is prepared to recognize all your borders and will not take any measures to destabilize them if a continous supply of Yalsamiri can be established. A continous supply would be a first purchase of 4000 Yalsamiri plus a yearly supply of 1000 more. This should be rather trivial for the ecosystem of Myrkr to handle. Thrawn himself removed way more with little trouble.

With regards to the extradition treaty, I believe the council will find the following acceptable - The Remnant will extradite any criminal after their guilt has been proven in an Imperial Court. The Imperial Ruling Council may veto any extradition. The Remnant will also chose to punish any alliance criminal caught on their worlds according to whatever punishment the law provides.

In return, the alliance will hand over any war criminal on their side after their guilt has been proven in one of your courts, with your council having a right to veto as well. The Alliance will also have the right to punish any Imperial criminal caught on your worlds according to whatever punishment your law provides as well as veto anything.

We would welcome all aid, but I was wondering - what quantities were you talking about? Because unless I do not know that, I am not sure how much forces I can commit to convoy defence."
Kossan was not particularily happy about the demanding nature of the Twi'lek's terms, but he wanted to keep the discussion away from more dangerous grounds, and he recognized that progress had been made. There were still some points that required clarification, however.

"As far as the extradition treaty is concerned, what you propose is not exactly what we would most prefer, but it is a reasonable proposition, and will likely prove acceptable for the time being. It will have to be put before the Council for a vote, and the Council may propose amendments, but its basic principles will likely prove reasonable. Of course, I can make no absolute garuntees in the Council beyond my own voice and a veto should any vote result in a tie, but I am optimistic.

On the subject of the Ysalamiri, I will reiterate my willingness to help you provide a defense for your people against the Sith, however I must also emphasize the practical difficulties. You are correct that actual supply, in theory, should not be a problem. Nor should convoy protection be a great burden either for aid or Ysalamiri shipments. The Alliance fleet is built largely around convoy protection and anti-piracy operations. Right now we're stretched a bit thin, but as the situation continues to stabilize, we should be able to provide some ships for escort duty. However, there are considerable political barriers. I speak the simple truth when I say that others will not look so favorably on supplying aid to Core worlds, or to Imperial-associated systems. We would consider it a gesture of mutual cooperation and respect if your government would agree to share an equal portion of the burden of protecting convoys between our states. We are capable of providing at least minimal escorts for convoys, I think, but the political symbolism would have a valuable effect, one which I am sure you can appreciate.

The contents of the aid itself depends on two factors: what we can provide, and what you require. For the former question, we possess advanced cloning and genetic engineering facilities on Kamino and sizable vehicle and weapons manufacturing facilities on Geonosis. The latter are currently inactive, but I would anticipate their reactivation in the comparatively near future." The First Consul did not mention that there were other resources he could provide. Better to keep some cards hidden.

"For the latter question, that is for your government to determine. Tell us what aid you require, and I will do my best to pass a bill in the Council to provide said assistance to the Imperial Remnant. I cannot make any promises, not without grossly overreaching my authority, but I believe that if the Alliance and the Remnant work together, we can achieve a great deal, to our mutual benefit and that of the Galaxy as a whole."

The First Consul paused as the com. system in his desk beeped. Asking the Twi'lek's pardon for the interruption, he opened a channel, after silencing the speakers. The speaker's words appeared in text on the screen instead. After a moment, he cut the channel, his face expressionless.

"Unfortunately, a situation has arisen that requires my attention. Specifically, it may interest you to know that warships of the Core Protectorate have just appeared in orbit. So far their intentions seem to be peaceful, but their motives are not yet known.

I hope that I have answered your questions to your satisfaction, and I hope that this is the beginning of a peaceful and prosperous relationship between our people. Right now, our priorities are simple: to establish order, expand our infrastructure, and ensure peace, prosperity, and justice for our people. From what we have discussed today, you clearly share these goals. While there will be inevitable political difficulties, I believe that, providing your government is willing to grant us the same degree of recognition and respect as a sovereign state that we grant to you, we can accomplish much together."

In Tatooine orbit:

"Status?" Captain Oridian barked the question at his chief of operations.

"Shields are up, ions and turbolaser batteries standing by. Fighters are taking up a screening formation."

The captain nodded.

"Status on the planetary defense systems? Have you got hold of the admiral yet?"

"Theatre shields and ground batteries on standby. The admiral is on his way." That was risky, to leave the shields down, but if the inbound force were intending to attack they could have pulled off a perfect surprise. Until they took an action to contradict their words, it would be preferable not to appear alarmist, or worse, actually provoke a battle. Nonetheless the decision weighed on the captain, who knew how many lives might be lost had he misjudged the situation, especially since he was only acting commander until the admiral arrived. He couldn't help thinking that they really should have a formal protocol for this type of situation. But at the moment it was his call, and he had a potential crisis to deal with.

"Alright, open a channel:

This is captain Oridian of the Alliance Defense Force Navy. Please hold your position and refrain from taking any hostile or agressive action. Be advised that any deviation from your assigned flight path, targeting of our ships or infrastructure, or other overtly hostile action will result in an escalation that we should both seek to avoid."

On the ground:

A diplomatic escort had arrived at the docking bay to greet the Kuati delegation. Deputy Ambassador Corran strode forward and extended his hand. It was incredibly nerve-wracking to meet a second embassy for a sovereign state in a single day, especially since he could tell that his meeting with the Twi'lek had not gone well. Hopefully no one would notice the Ysalamiri just out of sight. The rumors about the Kuat Imperium might be ill-founded, but their was no sense taking precautions, as federal security had informed him as soon he had arrived from the First Consul's offices.

"Welcome, Ambassador, to the Tatooine system. The First Consul will be meeting with you shortly. If you'll follow me?"

Clan leader Secura rose.

"Very well, Consul. I shall put the extradition treaty before my own council after yours has decided on the amendments. Likewise, I shall put the treaty of Yalsamiri and non-aggression before my council, once your assembly votes on it.

With regards to convoy escorts, I cannot speak with absolute certainty, but seeing as this is a critical security issue I am sure the Imperial fleet can spare a Star Destroyer or two.

With regards to aid, I cannot imagine weapons are among them. As for cloning, our medical facilities will be greatful for any cloned organs. That said, durasteel and construction droids might prove helpful as well. But, as previously mentioned, we'll be grateful for anything you can give us.

As you are busy, I hope you do not mind me taking my leave. Thank you for the goodwill displayed at this time and I hope that this was just one of many talks in the future."

I have noticed that there seems to be a flurry of activity with the defence forces. While most of the transmissions are encrypted, it seems that your military sounds.. exasperated? Is there something wrong?

In any case, here are my proposals:

1. A trade treaty between our two states.
2. Establishment of embassies.
3. Purchase of Vornskrs and Ysalamiri. Quantity to be discussed.

The First Consul nodded as he extended his hand to the Kuat Ambassador.

"What you observed is the result of an unexpected embassy from the Core Protectorate. Naturally, the unanticipated arrival of several warships in this system is not something The Alliance Defense Force takes lightly, but for the time being their intentions do not appear hostile. In any case, I doubt they would take aggressive action while we were meeting with yourself and the delegation from the Imperial Remnant, if only to avoid provoking your states. If however, you are concerned about your safety, I can move this meeting to a more secure and fortified location. I must apologise for not arranging a more formal reception, however your arrival caught us at a difficult time.

I agree without reservation to the establishment of embassies, and the opening of formal diplomatic relations between our states.

The other matters will be somewhat more difficult to arrange, as trade deals and especially the transfer of such delicate items as Ysalamiri are a matter for the Council to decide. If you could outline the specifics of your request, however, in terms of what specific items and what quantities you wish to trade, that information could be submitted to the Council for a vote."

The Consul hoped that would placate the Ambassador for now, while avoiding any specific commitments. It was understandable for a foreign power to wish to buy Ysalamiri, but he wanted to be sure of the Imperium's motivation, and the Remnant's too for that matter. Not for the first time the First Consul reflected that holding their sole source might prove more trouble than benefit.

"Excuse me, sir. I have a call coming through from System Command."

Aboard VT-49 hull number IX-274 enroute to the Froz System

Admiral Teren Rogriss and Emperor Aeron Bell were seated in the rear of the VT-49 assault craft as it sped to its final destination. Admiral Rogriss was in his gray Navy uniform with the six red over six blue rectangular bars of an Admiral in the Corellian Navy. Aeron Bell was wearing the lighter gray uniform of the Supreme Commander of the Corellian Navy, a title he held alongside being the Emperor. It was rare that he wore this uniform, but in this circumstance it seemed appropriate. The insignia was identical to that of an old Imperial Grand Moff.

Bell and Rogriss has been friends from when they had met in the Imperial Fleet and had served together on a number of occasions, although their careers had eventually seperated them as they moved up in command. Bell remembered how, shortly after ousting the Diktat and pacifying the Corellian system following the Fracture, Admiral Rogriss and the remnant of his task force, led by a near-crippled Agonizer, had limped into the system, looking for repairs and refuge. Admiral Bell had been glad to help his friend and former comrade, and in turn Rogriss had supported Bell when he had been declared Emperor of the Second Corellian Empire.

And now, Emperor Bell would introduce Admiral Rogriss to his new command.

"So what is this 'Special Projects Unit' of yours, anyway?" inquired the Admiral.

"Officially, it is a semi-secret research unit, to come up with new tactics and capabilities across the services. But that's merely a cover. In fact, it will be the source of a number of 'black' projects and missions, with personnel and assets pulled from the SPU, the Corellian Intelligence Agency, and other sources. It is my hope that the classification of the SPU will satisfy the curious and they will dig no deeper. Nonetheless, we'll be taking considerable security precautions, regardless. Still, it is a useful front to account for money, ships and personnel we will be using...elsewhere."

"I see," nodded Admiral Rogriss. "And I assume you're taking me to one of these black projects now?"

"That would be an accurate assumption, yes. It has been somewhat uncreatively dubbed the Black Fleet by various crewers. A small taskforce of ships that are not directly identified with the Empire, which we could use for any number of deniable purposes."

"Like pirate attacks?" Rogriss inquired, with a hint of disdain.

"Well...in a manner of speaking. I suppose should a general war break out we might use this fleet to hit our enemy's trade routes, try to disrupt neutral shipping. But that's not the prime purpose. For now, there are a number of factions and entities out there who have not exactly been reaching out to us. Some of them may well be hostile. Probe droids are fine and all, but they only tell us so much."

"What they don't tell you is how a system's defenses will react to the unannounced incursion of a fleet of unidentified warships," Rogriss said.

Bell nodded confirmation. "That's one use we were thinking of, yes. As for others, well, that's up to you and your staff. For the moment, these ships are relatively unknown. Dreadnaughts, Bulk Cruisers, and a smattering of Corvettes and Gunships. Given the upheaval of recent events, it is highly unlikely anybody has a full catalouge of engine emissions to identify such relatively commonplace ships. And even if they did have records on them, it would probably end with, "Last seen in the service of...' some fleet or another."

"Yes, though of course the more we use them, and especially if they're used against the same group, the greater chances there will be of someone at least identifying them as coming from the same source."

Bell nodded again. "That is an issue. I am hoping we may be able to construct a Class I shipyard out here. We could see about refitting the Corvettes and Gunships, at least, to try and mask those emissions. And Froz is a good base. Pretty minor system, unlikely to have anyone drop by unexpectedly. Still, it's a member of the Empire, so having a small shipyard placed out here shouldn't attract undue attention."

Before Rogriss could reply, the intercom buzzed. "Ten seconds to reversion," announced the Decimator's commander.

"Will I be getting to keep this ship?" asked Rogriss with a smile.

"It will be assigned to the SPU, yes. The crew is minimal and they've been cleared for the Black Fleet."

They rode together in silence as the IX-274 approached the silent fleet. Two Dreadnaught-class "heavy" cruisers, three Neutron Star-class bulk cruisers, and a small number of CR-90 corvettes hung in space in a remote part of the system. The assault ship landed in the bay of one of the Dreadnaughts, and the two passengers exited. They were met by another uniformed officer.

Rogriss, still getting used to the different uniform designs between the Empire and the Corellians, assessed the uniform and rank badge of the man standing before him. The slight greenish gray of his uniform, with a rank bar of four red and one gold bar on top, five blues on the bottom...an Army Major General?

His evaluation proved to be correct, as Major General Jim Green introduced himself as the Special Projects Unit deputy commander. Together, the three senior officers left the hanger deck to tour the command ship of the SPU "Black Fleet" and meet its senior officers.

Kuat System

Josana Kuat of Kuat, and Lira Wessex and Bevel Lemelisk sat in a shielded meeting room discussing future plans. "We need more shipyards if we are to ever re-establish our supremacy. I assume we plan to construct at least 2 1600m yards?" asked Lira Wessex.

"Yes, indeed. There are roughly plans to construct at least 2 1600m yards, and perhaps a 1 3600m yard. Perhaps an even larger one, but for now, that is all you need to know," replied Josana Kuat of Kuat.

"How about our research facilities? Will I get the staff to work with?" asked Bevel Lemelisk. "I do hope you would provide the adequate protection.."

"Don't worry. Your existence is secret. Perhaps some surgical alteration of your features might be useful. In any case, the budget to design the next star destroyer will be allocated next year. Our shipyards will be ready soon enough to take in the experimental designs.

Also Lemelisk, there is someone I want you to meet in the Koros Major sector. A priority shuttle will send you there now."

Near Tatoonie
CPS Serenity

Admiral Rowan turned slightly as message came in to the bridge. He could have been on the Admiral's bridge, every console duplicated there and even a full bridge crew to provide backup to the main crew. However he had wanted to be on the main bridge both because he had not stopped being a Captain of his own ship so long ago, and because he had a feeling that he might be required to act quickly in his role as head of the CP's government. He smiled as the text copy of the message came across the arm display of the Admiral's chair. Even as the visual message was coming up on the main display. He turned Captain MacMillan, the skipper of the CPS Serenity and asked only "thoughts?".

The stout officer considered for a moment, his fingers tapping out an almost unconscious rhythm as the first full scope passive sensor scan reports came in. "We'll it's the basics, and they've not shot at us yet, which means someone owes me twenty credits. Aside from that they are giving us the hostile power basics, which as I pointed out at the meeting just before we jumped is exactly what we represent." he trailed to a halt as the latest report came up. "Interesting.... see these?" he indicated two ships ID by codes as being diplomatic ships. Admiral Rowan tapped up his own small view and saw what his Captain had noticed at once.

"Hmm... Kuat and Remnant? No issues there, the Remnant knows I'm no threat, and the Kuat's do not concern me. Make sure that information is passed and re-passed to the screening force. If this goes south I won't have them harmed, even if some Rim-bastard uses their ships as cover, we take the shots and get out of here... Captain?"

Captain MacMillan's was nodding even as Admiral Rowan finished his sentence, "Aye, we got them in the lock, you give the word I could burn down half their light elements in system and hit their capital. The Golan's would hurt but we only need to take out one, figure ten minutes we could decapitate the Rim allience and get out of here clean... They did not expect a show of force from us... why?

"We've never seriously bothered the Rim, the Hutts are a different matter, I imagine those slugs are taking anything they can right now but why the heck would they expect one of the big five to show up on their doorstep with a half a sector fleet in firepower on standby... which is exactly why I did this." The Admiral turned away from the display, "Tell them we agree and broadcast our canned message number 1, lets play it by the book and see which way they go...

"Rim forces this is the CPS Serenity, Request acknowledged, ships will maintain stationary position relative to Tatoonie. On Admiral Rowan's orders I'll also pass a repeat of the earlier request for a direct face to face conference between First Consul Kossan Mical and Admiral Rowan at 1720 Galactic standard time.."

Her Majesty the Queen was delighted. Finally, some diplomacy is paying off.

"I will gladly sign any such treaty," she said, "And seek enhanced relations among our peoples in these uncertain times..."

"Indeed," Panaka said. "Anyhow, what does the Gordion Dominion wish to discuss as far as future relations? I will take any proposals to the Queen herself.."

"I think Her Majesty will be most amenable to these offers," the Governor said, "She is eager to build good relations with other nations emerging from this time of chaos. You will have your treaty, I assure you..."

Royal Aerospace Forces Hangar
Theed Palace

The Royal Hangar was a mess of activity. Deep in the underground repair bays, the X-Wings of Rogue Squadron were in avarious stages of disassembly as pilots and ground crews alike each tried to come up with the parts needed to repair the ships. While the people of Naboo had always harbored pro-Republic sentiment, the reign of Queen Kylantha had managed to sucessfully appear pro-Imperial --or, at least, Imperial-accommodating-- and so little by way of spare parts were stored for anything that didn't conform to either TIE standard, or local N1 standard.

"We can shop around for parts, that's not the issue," said the chief tech of the Royal Engineers, a short human named Ivven Andrazar. "It's the maintaining issue that I'm concerned about. It's not just you guys," he said to the Rogues' commander, Arhul Narra, "It's any non-standardized unit."

Narra understood what that meant... any non-Imperial unit. Admiral Antilles's Republic fleet was going to be in for parts shortages as well.

"Now, we can eventually get you taken care of," Andrazar said, "But there'll be delays. We have to build a logistics chain for Republic type stuff. Now, in the meantime, you can take your pick of the N-1s in the stable."

"N-1s, huh?" Narra asked, shuffling his feet, "The famed Naboo 'artwork starfighter'. I've never actually seen one up close. Mind if I have a look?"
"Help yerself," Andrazar said, absently looking over some worn fittings from one of the X-Wings. Narra looked over one of the nearby silver-and-yellow N1s and shook his head.

"Look, this was a good bird," he said, "Twenty years or so ago. This thing isn't as robust as we'd need to stand up against some of th elatest stuff. Don't get me wrong, she's a beaut," he said, "but it's the best thing built for a time that is now long gone."

"Well, there's a program underway to stiffen 'er backbone a bit," Andrazar said, "First upgrade in years... now that we're able to control our own investments, eh? We're hoping to get some techs from Nubia and Kuat to come in and go over some computer models we've worked up. Say..." the tech said, straightening, "I bet you guys could give us some insights. How about you look it over and give us a dream sheet of changes."

"I'd like that..."

Vindicator-class Cruiser
RNS Blacklock
Felucia

"This is the place, you say?" The Captain --the commander of the cruiser-- asked. Next to him, the other Captain --an Army man given the courtesy title 'Major' while on board, assured him that it was.

"Yes, it is," Captain Lucius Taryl, formerly of the Ubiqtorite and currently head of the fledgling Concordat Intelligence Services. "The old records of the Organa family, the old sealed records of the Ubiqtorite from Vader's Hand Starkiller... this should be the last known location of Maris Brood."

"I still don't like this idea," the Captain said, "Damn Force-users have brought enough pain and misery to this Galaxy."
"Well, this one seemed more of a troublemaker than anything," Taryl said. "But the Admiral, Moff... Governor Panaka and the Queen wanted to know if any Jedi survived, and this is th eonly lead I know of. They want her, tney can have her."

"Besides," Lieutenant Brax, leader of the Stormtrooper platoon that was to escort Taryl down, "She wasn't well liked by the Organa family, that's for sure. She might more on our side than not."

Captain Taryl waved the junior officer to silence. "Let's get ready. Your men are in the lander?"
"Our Sentinel and your Lambda are ready to go," Brax responded with clipped, Carida-trained Imperial precision.

"Then let's go find us a Jedi," Taryl said, and put on his own helmet.

Felucia Surface

"By the Souls of Alderaan, people used to fight over this pit?" One of the Stormtroopers blurted out.
"Keep it down," Lieutenant Brax said, noting the helmet of Captain Taryl shake in disapproval at the unprofessional outburst. But the tension was obvious in the body language of his men-- the thick pollen cut visibility to mere meters. They wouldn't know someone was on them until it was too late-- and they were looking for a Force-sensitive in the murk of fungal trees.

"Something up ahead," the Scout Trooper said.
"I could use some more detail," Taryl grumbled.
"Something big... damn, I'm glad I have my filters on. That's a big, dead rancor."

"Brood had a pet rancor," Taryl said, looking up with ineterst. He darted forward before Brax could say anything.
"Sir," Brax said, "Please don't outrun your security escort." Taryl said nothing, but slowed down as the Stormtroopers fanned out.

"Yeah, that's a rancor all right," Taryl said. It was covered in mossy decay and was really little more than a slushpile of skin over the exposed bones, but it was clearly one of the most feared beasts in the Galaxy.
"Would Brood have stayed nearby?" Brax said. "This thing must have stunk to the twin suns of Tatooine when it was still only halfway here."

"Maris Brood most definitely did not stay nearby," a loud, clear female voice cut through the murk. The Stormtroopers looked around, finally noticing a figure standing on a tall, exposed tree system that towered overhead. A slender female form was barely visible in the haze of pollen. "She left, and waited until more fools came to to this cursed land."

The figure suddenly leapt up, into the air, higher than any normal person could have, and landed in a perfectly balanced, graceful crouch on the backbone of the dead rancor in their midst. Two short guard shotos crackled to life.

"I am Maris Brood," the figure said, "And you are all bantha poodoo."

Captain Taryl makes contact with Maris Brood.
Things not off to a good start.
