Natural Selection II Teaser Released

The teaser is from in-engine, not pre-rendered. For those of you who aren't familiar with the first Natural Selection (shame on you), it was a FPS/RTS hybrid, built as a free 3rd party mod for the HL engine, and in my biased opinion, the best FPS ever. Most people tend to describe it as Aliens vs Predators (And a Korean website once just referred to it as "Starcraft FPS") Pre-ordering is already available - I've probably spent hundreds of hours on NS1 over the years, so really, right now my only dilemma is whether to get the standard or special pre-order. Just about the only worry I have is that the game designers might try to dumb the game down too much, and in doing so, remove the depth that made the first game so great. I'm also pleasantly surprised by the minimum system requirements, although minimum requirements usually translates into "30 FPS with all the settings on lowest"

Actually, they decided to abandon the Source engine sometime ago, and ended up coding their own. They'll still probably be distributing it through Steam though.

It's Source as in Source of Money. Modding big bucks does not make. Not in the short run at least.

Pretty much anything Valve is a mod though. They made Source, and are sitting pretty from TF2, L4D and the like.

Also, when was the last time you saw a major FPS release with a new engine... that wasn't at least in part a tech demo for other people to license the new engine?

I think I might pick up the special edition. I figure, why not? I spent so much time with the first NS that I may as well pay back the team for that. Hopefully it'll avoid the crazed balance swings of the original. I seem to remember it getting better towards the last few releases, but that may just be my rose-tinted glasses.

I have a lot of fond memories of that game, long nights spent running from Onos and setting up stealth sieges. Good times :D

Sadly, I wish I'd heard more about the game itself rather than the engine that is being built for it. Most of the stuff I've seen has been "Look how pretty this is! Yaaay!" but here's to hoping they have more than pretty lights in their bag of tricks.

The only question is how much work the've done with their own engine, we saw a few tech video's in the past and the thing that springs to mind for me is...
Can I as an Onos break down doors? How great would that be if those little woshy doors all Sci-fi features only works for the humans but Fade's can break through them and Onos can just barrel right through them. That I want to know.

That and so much more
I am very, very tempted to plunk down the 20$ or 40$ for this, if I knew for sure Valve would give me a Steam copy I would plunk down the 40$
