WH40K Space Marine Trailer

Post by Lagmonster »

I haven't seen this anywhere else, and I know a lot of you are Warhammer fans, so here's the trailer for the upcoming action game:
Click

Looks fun; soon to see if they can make it fun.

Joystiq had a blurb on it earlier. Provided the combat system doesn't suck and there's more to do than just leveling, it could be entertaining. I'm not really a big 40k fan but I enjoyed the Dawn of War series well enough. Though judging from the trailer it appears to be Dynasty Warriors: 40k with a souped up engine. Not sure if that's going to be a good or a bad thing yet.

Based on this (and only this), I'll give it at least a rental. I'm a big WH40K fan and though I'm not an Ultramarines fan this looks to be a fun way to piss away an afternoon. Even better if we actually get that thunder hammer and a melta in the game.

Crackdown in Spppppppppaaaaaaace! 8) This a game that'll I'll be getting, hopefully. Jetpacks and Thunderhammers could be one of the most amusing combinations I have seen so far.

Reading the various previews etc, the Ultramarines are apparently a placeholder.

Please god let them not be Blood Ravens, and someone has to have shot the guys who write the shitty dialogue, and the horrific voice actors for the loyalist characters, so they won't get near this ?

Please ?

Friggin' awesome.

So, we know we've got Orks and Chaos. Are there any other factions getting involved?

Also, I really hope there's more environments in the game than "sunset hive overcast by nuclear fireballs."

And I'm still waiting for my Imperial Guard 40k game, too. :|

Well it looks like they really changed up the combat dynamics since the clip of combat they released a few months ago, which is definitely a good thing. This looks like a look of fun, and I'll most certainly pick it up.

I think it'd be hard to stay true to Space Marine fluff and not have it somewhat like Dynasty Warriors, though if they mix in a lot of Traitor marines, Ork Nobs, and such in it'll move away from that.

I think it's pretty funny how the Assault Marine loves hitting shit with his hammer so much that he goes out of his way to hit an Ork during a nuclear explosion.

Knowing Relic, all the Space Marines, Orks, and chaos units will be voiced by Steve Blum.

Not that that's a bad thing, I haven't gotten tired of Scout-Sergeant Spike Spiegal yet.

I always was fond of Carron for his fixation on metal boxes.

I really hope Space Marine doesn't end up being Dynasty Warriors with SPESS MEHRENS.

SINDRI!

On a more serious note, the previous demo didn't really give me much hope because the Bolter's looked like they were fucking pea-shooters, and I couldn't see any use of ranged weapons in this demo.

I hope that they put in ranged weaponry, and actually make it not suck.

I saw a gameplay trailer a couple of weeks ago. It didnt have lots of the features/content they said they were planning, but there were quite a lot of things that worried me. Like how the bolter appeared to fire about 50 rounds a second, but had basically no effect on the cultists the guy was fighting. I forget the exact words they used, but they said the idea was to use your ranged weapon to "distract" or tickle or something the enemies so you could close to use your melee weapons to do the real damage. It looked like it would be a lone beatemup thing, with miniboss chaos marines and hordes of crap to wade through. Did look like the style was ok from that trailer though...

That was an old demo that had been leaked sometime last year. It was yanked shortly after the complaints started. This seems at least improved from that.

From the trailer, it seems you get to chose from four marines: Bolt Pistol/Chainsword, Bolter, Thunder Hammer and Heavy Bolter. I would presume they have varying emphasis on shooting and combat: TH-BP/C-B-HB It also seems you can get Jump Packs, either as a power-up or something you get/choose at the beginning of a mission.

There was too little to tell for sure, but it also seems the rate of fire has been toned back down to something more like Dawn of War.

Too bad it looks like you can't alternatively play as a Chaos Space Marine. Oh well should still be worth a rental.

Thats all good to hear then. I'm glad they're going with some more effective ranged weapons.

Some of the stuff looks cool, like lance strike over the horizon bringing massive fireball effects. :D

You saw a leaked pre-alpha tech demo that the studio didn't want to have leaked at all. The idea that it has any implications on the game's final combat dynamic is retarded.

It's more like you get the choice between Sergeant, Tactical, Assault and Devastator. I doubt that any of the other Spess Mehrens will get the option for a jump pack - its clearly so the dude with the Thunder Hammer has the mobility needed to make up for his total lack of ranged weapon. Hopefully, the option will be there for the Assault Marine to get Lightning Claws or something like that. I'm pretty sure I saw the Sergeant with a Power Sword, and the Devastator will likely have access to other heavy weapons, such as plasma cannons and whatnot.

Are you honestly complaining about a reskinned Dynasty Warriors game playing exactly like Dynasty Warriors? :P

Nah, after a rewatch (45seconds~) it appears that the Marine with the thunder hammer also has a bolt pistol.

This actually looks like it could be fun with out running into too many fps cliches.

No, no, just the shooting system sucking donkey balls. It's 40K. Let's have the guns behave like they should, for once, instead of being nerfed into peashooters.

I'm all for exploding cultist heads and throwing their bodies across the room but wouldn't that make it a little to easy?

The bolter doesn't have infinite rounds yhou know. You need to aim to blow apart multiple cultists at the same time. Linking your shots together is important, and not just for style.
