Would this cause fundies to go out of whack?
Writing a novel (note, novel, meaning fiction) that sets God as an antagonist. Would this uproar the fundie collective?

I believe the Bible meets that criteria. It's fiction, and depicts God as ruthless, a typical antagonist, although he's supposed to be a protagonist figure.
Anyway, I'm sure such a novel has been done before, and if another one was released, the fundies would condemn it, and some of the crazier ones doing some Nazi-style book burning.

Read 'His Dark Materials'
Good series, heavy on the blasphemy. I enjoyed it, though the ending sucked extraordinarily large amounts of ass.

Hey, Terry Pratchett's Small Gods is published in the US, right?
Although the US release of Mort was delayed because 'the American Public are not ready for Death as a sympathetic figure' - two months before the release of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey

Hell, fundies burn Harry Potter books because of blasphemies only they can see, I'd hate to see what they do to a novel like that. Probably what they do to the Satanic Bible, in any case.Asst. Asst. are you sayign that om is the antagonist? he´s next to brutha a protagonist. the entire church is the antagonist, but not the god himself.innerbrat wrote:Hey, Terry Pratchett's Small Gods is published in the US, right?

i might be wrong, i havent read the book for ages.
Fine, forget I said anything, [and kill the thread] but it still degraded God's omnipresence.

Actually, the book release wasn't delayed because of that-it was the Mort movie idea that was scrapped.innerbrat wrote:Hey, Terry Pratchett's Small Gods is published in the US, right?

There have been a few movies which painted God in a questionable light, but I've never seen one that portrayed him as an outright villain. It would be boycotted and its creator's career ruined.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.

Just to add on it, it's written by Phillip Pullman. I loved it; in it, the Devil is actually the protagonist, and the Authority is the antagonist.HemlockGrey wrote:Read 'His Dark Materials'

I thought the ending was a bit sad though... I wished he would continue the series

The ending to His Dark Materials just seemed contrived; it seemed like Pullman was trying to shoehorn the whole thing into an unhappy ending, furiously tying up loose ends.
I mean, couldn't Xanphia have just said, "Yeah, there'll natural portals out there, we'll give you a call when we find one" instead of "No...um...you can't do that...or that...or that...because!"

No, they burn Harry Potter books because they contain magic (*gasp*) and magic is evil by definition (their definition anyways.)UltraViolence83 wrote:Hell, fundies burn Harry Potter books because of blasphemies only they can see
Probably the same as everything else they disagree with. Burn it in their private meetings, put up webpages citing all the biblical verses that support their position and petition the government to have the book banned in schools.I'd hate to see what they do to a novel like that. Probably what they do to the Satanic Bible, in any case

My priest is a nazi, he believes catholics are superior to others because they are the builders in the world and they can pray. Pack on subject, yes plain and simple.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr.
