You need to make sure that when you fire the bolter it goes through the first cultist's head, the second's neck, the third's chest and explode at the forth's lower torse spraying shrapnel which hits number five, six and seven. Hence, linking your fire. This will probably work best if time is slowed down slightly for your marine- otherwise it will be more spray and pray.

The game is going to present Sapce Marines at the absolute peak of their capability (ala Brothers of the Snake), wherein one dude, admittedly with a Rogue Trader era Thunder Hammer, can wade through a big swarm of angry green and come out the other side splattered in Ork bits. Given that two of the Marines apparently rely primarily on shooting, chances are that the guns will be pretty powerful.

Like how the bolter appeared to fire about 50 rounds a second, but had basically no effect on the cultists the guy was fighting. I forget the exact words they used, but they said the idea was to use your ranged weapon to "distract" or tickle or something the enemies so you could close to use your melee weapons to do the real damage. It looked like it would be a lone beatemup thing, with miniboss chaos marines and hordes of crap to wade through. Did look like the style was ok from that trailer though...
You saw a leaked pre-alpha tech demo that the studio didn't want to have leaked at all. The idea that it has any implications on the game's final combat dynamic is retarded.
The idea that a tech demo where you're being talked through the gameplay elements by a designer and hes talking about what direction they want to take the game in on an official gaming website is not indicative of how they want the final game to turn out?
Apparently nobody can see you without a signature.

Hot blood and guts, they'll totally fill an entire city with streets full of Dark Eldar corpses! Holy fucking god!
I hope there are more opponents other than just goddamn Orks. Playing the third-person equivalent of the original Dawn of War, complete with Chaos conspiracies and shit, would be awesome.

Well yeah. If you've got a big hammer and there's an Ork in front of you, you hit the Ork with your hammer. No matter what other trivial shit you have going on in your life.

The alpha footage that was being discussed showed the marine fighting cultists and Chaos Marines, so there's more than likely those in there too. Though I think it'd be boss to play as a Chaos marine or something.
Here's to hoping we see some awesome Terminator action

Excellent. That gives me hope that there will be other opponents at your level as well.

That part was beautiful, and so quintessentially Space Marine too.
In other news, am I the only one who thinks the graphics engine displayed in the trailer is just a souped up version of the DoW2 engine? Not that that's a bad thing, but I personally liked how the pre-alpha look was turning out more, reminded me less of BLAHD RAHVENS.

The trailer also shows a few instances of the Space Marines chopping up Chaos Guardsmen.

AFAIK, that was a different designer.
Edit: To explain a little more, what I've heard is that there was an Australian group working on the game, but then Relic bought the rights and scrapped the pre-existing stuff and started from scratch. The leaked video was the Australian group's version. This is Relic's.
Can anyone confirm that? I don't have much in the way of sources.

That seems to be what's going on Relvenous, yes. Although technically it's THQ who owns the rights, the suits just must have fiddled around with which studio was doing what.
