To be fair to Coyote, he never really said where it was. He mentioned "Duke Frequesque" doing transoceanic navigation and that they would have been underwater at the time, but that doesn't mean anything. Wilkens just kind of made it being near the F-ing continent. We could twist Siege's post around to say that aircraft was from his Paradise Island place, which is near-ish Velaria if memory serves, after all. And Wilkens can always retcon the location.

EDIT: Heck I rather assumed it was near Velaria. In which case it would make some sense for Japanistan to have some outpost in the middle of nowhere. At least as much sense as one can make for having any outpost in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah, IIRC, I thought that it was near Velaria when he first posted about it...

I didn't even go that far. All I specified was that it was a sub patrol in the Pacific and our charts call the region the Frequesqian shoals (in honor of the Duke). So it could literally be anywhere in the Pacific but obviously its got to be within say half again the range of a patrol plane flying from one of the NFT's bases.

Siege all I'm gonna say is that like as not right now you have no proof of agression and Japanistan will have plenty which means the instigator is you. Now, again, we won't know what they are going to do with the information once they get it (that is up to "evil" Coyote) but in the interim a full accounting woudl likely still put the onus on your guys for firing a weapon instead of detaining the alleged pirates.

I'm just trying to come up with some more good potential permutations of moustache-twirling evil to twist this with....
Well Indhopal is about to open talks with Japanistan about forging a closer relationship. The results of the investigation should make for a nice bombshell considering Indhopal's and the NFT's close ties.

For the islands to serve as a base for supporting piracy ops they have to be decently close to Frequesue.

Paradise Island lies off the coast of North Velaria, but I have no submarines stationed there. Plus I wouldn't be concerned if Japanistan were dicking about in that area--that's Steve's neighborhood.

I did detain the pirates on the mothership. I blew up the island. And frankly I'll just claim your intel is forged in order to frame us.

Makes sense. Japanistan has a much reason to trust the MESS as it has to trust CATO... that is no reason at all.

Except the way Wilkens set it up, they're getting it from the IRT, not the MESS. And they'd trust the IRT over either of us.

Yeah but who are you going to blame? In character you wouldn't yet have any idea that the Japanistani's have any intel. Everythign that has transpired so far has been within a small segment of the WIN and my intel guys along with a half dozen or so IRT Intel guys. Its implausible bordering on impossible for you to know HOW the Japanistani's are going to get the info. If they come out and announce that they have discovered something, you scream forgery and then I show its not screaming double forgery just makes you look foolish, the same if Japanistan comes out and indicates they got this from the IRT.

In other words unless you shout forgery AFTER my guys corroborate the story it will just look like an epic fail on your part and there is no realistic way for your guys to know that mine can corroborate the story. Long story short there is no variation on shouting "forgery" that won't make your folks look bad.

ON an unrelated note so that everyone not directly in the know is aware:

Both PeZook and I have agreed that since our real lives have prevented us from being 100% on top of our missions scheduels that it would be foolish for the first one of us to wake up this weekend would be the first to the moon. So for timeline purposes this weekend (the first half of March 2017) will see the landing of a man on the moon. The "by whom" part is what we are sorting out. So we've gone to a neutral arbiter and we shoudl have a decision back at some point. The reaosn for saying this now is so that when one of us DOES post the landing everyone knows that it will likely end up being in unreal time.

As an aside, you people will hate me: I'm not participating right now, because I finally dusted off an old project of mine. So far, here's a proof of concept.

Image
Whizzing over the Old Continent

Image
Nova Terra, version: crappy texture

Image
Us and our sun

So far, the concept works: I can build the entire star system, along with launch centers, and then fly missions in Orbiter from them. I can apply custom textures to Nova Terra and other planets, too.

When/if I finish this, we'll have an unending source of pictures for space missions, as well as a way to simulate transit times, dates, etc.

The only thing I need is a nice 2048x1024 texture using our map, specular maps for the ocean and night light maps. The actual coding of the solar system is a job for two-three days.

Not really. If Japanistan is going to accuse us, we're going to deny having anything to do with it, and the world will have to choose whether they want to believe them -international pariah nation renowned for its dickery that they are- or us, stalwart upholders of international decency that we are *cough*. If you then come out and say "I corroborate this here shit", I'll claim you're forging evidence to frame us in order to further the MESS-CATO divide for your own nefarious purposes, and the choice of whom to believe will then be pretty much the same, except that you'll inevitably have increased CATO-MESS tensions.

In the end I honestly don't see what you thought you had to gain by providing the intel to Japanistan. It's a nice feat of OOC-dickery, for which I applaud you, but in the long run I just don't see how it can possibly benefit you in any conceivable IC way. You might score a few points with the IRT, but that's the IRT; their points are for sale.

Did we declare the other two moons in any way, shape or form?

'Coz I have Selene wrapped up, now I want to add the two remaining bodies. I guess I'll make their orbits as I go, but I could use names :D

Well then, unless anybody objects, I'll pull their names straight from sdn mk.I

EDIT: And thank the FSM for the invention of the scientific calculator! :P

EDIT2: Heh, you know...the relatively small change of Nova Terra's gravity brings some HARDCORE consequences for the entire terra-selene system. For example, if I put Selene on an orbit matching the Moon, it will have an orbital period of about 1,5 months, not one. Length of our year becomes different, too, as do altitudes for various useful orbits...

Astrophysics is funny :D

Dude its even better that I've been trying to do a rough figure on how any changes to our orbital period and relative size may affect planning a shot for Mars (which right now is on my 2030 horizon). Right now I'm tenatively going with the current Earth-Mars differential which gives a launch window at 1/3rd ahead and 1/3rd behind for roughly 2 chances every 25/26 months.

That is even without getting in to that we may have a decently working Ion-Electric drive by that point which would alter both when and how frequently we would have the chance to shoot to Mars (I'm sticking with Mars since its easier than renaming the whole damn solar system).

I feel like we should be asking Dr Saxton to come in and do a few quick calcs for us :D

I'm curious. Was Chang-Ngo first discovered by the Tian Xians in modern times? I can't see how else the Anglicized (Shroomanized?) name would be so out of keeping with the other two...
