IP-cloakers
Given that I've been kicked out of the AIIF and ATJ, I have a question for these invading other boards. Why don't you go into them cloaked? There are programs that let you hide your IP. That would stop all of you from being banned.

LOL. 'IP cloaking' programs are snake oil. They can't and don't work.jaeger115 wrote:Given that I've been kicked out of the AIIF and ATJ, I have a question for these invading other boards. It is possible to hide ones real IP by tunneling through other proxies on the Internet but IP hiding can't be done by running software on your own computer.
The only exception to this is for certain types of hacking attacks. It's possible to spoof packets without leaving a tracable IP address but the web can't be accessed this way.

Have you really been kicked out, or are you just a victim of refurbishment?jaeger115 wrote:Given that I've been kicked out of the AIIF and ATJ, I have a question for these invading other boards. Victim of refurnishment. Honestly, I gave serious thought to the idea of invading other boards after Alyrium booted me out, and decided that it wouldn't be a good idea.Have you really been kicked out, or are you just a victim of refurbishment?

There are supposedly quite a few open proxies on the Internet, however. I'm not sure why anyone would choose to run such a thing, but I've been surprised by human nature before.Enlightenment wrote:It is possible to hide ones real IP by tunneling through other proxies on the Internet but IP hiding can't be done by running software on your own computer.
I suppose that for the technical neophytes out there, we should explain that this is because the web client won't get return traffic if it spoofs its own IP address, since the server will try to send return packets to somewhere other than the originator. A two-way connection is impossible with spoofing. The only exception to this is for certain types of hacking attacks. It's possible to spoof packets without leaving a tracable IP address but the web can't be accessed this way.

Yes, I know that it's stupid, and I believe Wong has covered it before, but if the AIIF wants to do it, then I prefer that we don't get tracked down and counterinvaded.I have a better question: Why invade other boards? It's stupid.

Preventing other sites from tracing where their visitors are coming from is fairly simple and doesn't involve hiding your IP address. All it takes is a proxy such as Webwasher, Junkbuster, or Squid, configured to strip or alter the HTTP referrer tag. As long as everyone involved in the shit stirring is running a referrer blocker the victim board(s) will have no technical means of determining where the attackers are based.jaeger115 wrote:if the AIIF wants to do it, then I prefer that we don't get tracked down and counterinvaded.
Stripping the referrer tag is basically what happens when someone cuts&pastes a link rather than clicking on it; never using direct links will have the same effect as using a stripping proxy. The proxy, however, will be much more convinient.
For even more fun, it would be fairly simple to hack Junkbuster to spoof the referrer header such that when attacking, for instance, a radical Zionist board the referrer tag pointed to a neo-Nazi board and vice versa.

What would happen if I hacked into some Average Joe's computer and used it to hack into another computer? Would my IP be erased then?

If you had a shell account on Joe's computer, then all activity would appear to be coming from Joe's computer, not yours. Mind you, if you have Joe's permission then it's not very nice to do this to him, and if you don't, then you are hacking into his machine, which is technically a form of breaking and entering and could put you in hot water.jaeger115 wrote:What would happen if I hacked into some Average Joe's computer and used it to hack into another computer? Re: IP-cloakers
Most of the open proxies aren't intentionally run by anyone. They're generally the result of an MCS'E'-without-a-clue setting up a web proxy for an internal LAN and forgetting to configure an access control list.Darth Wong wrote:There are supposedly quite a few open proxies on the Internet, however. Multizilla for mozilla also has a fake referrer option. I set it to goatse.cx . However you can't post to this site if you leave it on.
