It's not like they have exponential growth or anything, they're massive creatures which would almost certainly take years to fully develop.
They're supposed to be highly intelligent, but I can't remember them demonstrating that in any of the the episodes they appeared in. And they seem to soley rely on their sense of hearing (do they even have eyes?).

They seem to be just wild animals, with an intelligence perhaps comparable to that of a dog.

The rely solely on echolocation from what I can tell.

I wonder how they'll remedy this episode, Spoiler
what with half the team stranded in the past

The problem is that the Future Preds (FP's) aren't going to be acting like a 'conventional' enemy. The first time we saw one, it didn't really matter that there were multiple expert soldiers, it just kept on killing. I imagine this is closer to their 'true' capabilities, whereas the ones we saw in the future have obviously been without humans for at least one or two generations (of theirs) and thus, without much in the way of competition, their hunting/fighting skills have atrophied.

Plus, the FP's 'historically' are supposed to not only come from the future, but also from Johnson's lab, and they'd be all over the place (that seems at least how it played out), at which point civillian deaths and panic would be the main concern, the panic probably killing far more than a few FP's could.

There is also another point to consider, with more creatures arriving from a different time, the odds of one of them bringing a nasty disease through get higher. It's entirely possible one or more of them brought in a viral or bacterial agent which mutated and spread through humanity (much like 'common' illnesses from the spanish and other colonials wiped out many native Americans).

When you combine them all, it's possible to see how humanity falls, an uncurable pandemic is weakening humanity, there are no front lines, the night is pretty much owned by the FP's, and their numbers (as suggested by 'overruning' the earth and the number in the small area of ruins) combine with their first appearance 'true ' lethality could make for human civilisation in general being wiped out. Humans would survive in small numbers of course in various hold-outs, but the sheer unexpected nature of the event would mean that it would probably simply be a matter of time before those areas ran out of food, fell to disease or similar.

There is also the SuperAnts which are just as dangerious as the Future Predators, and what ever the hell effects such massive ecological changes in a short timespan.

It almost looks like some sort of portal storm occured to actually consumes chunks of the terrain in the 'future' scenes. There is a lot more than future super-animals and super-diseases from the future afflicting the planet.

^What An Ancient and Xon said, in regards to the future extinction of humanity and drastic changing of the Earth.

What I find perculiar about Helen Cutter is how she has degraded as villain since S1. In S3 she has been reduced to this raving psychopath that keeps changing her plans like Ledger Joker and does awful things pretty much for the sake of it. But I have feeling it is not the last we've seen of her, due to her access to cloning technology. S2 was pretty spotty in quality after the pleasant surprise of Primeval's first season, but its season finale was the best so-far, and this season finale was pretty underwhelming, cropping up more questions than answers.

Maybe the characters should've made it back to the present day only the find out that humanity as we know has been replaced by closely related humanoids similar to Neanderthals. That rival organization has the worst security ever.

Was anyone else expecting Cutter to come back? I thourght it would come out that Helen had shot the clone of him she had made. Thats why he said 'You're not that clever Helen' before she shot him.

It was made clear that the glassy eyed and braindead Nick Cutter clone died in the ARC explosion.

Aye. Could still happen though.

This finale really did not feel like a finale. The words out of my mouth were pretty much "Uh... what?". There's not even a fourth season confirmed yet. This would be a truly retarded place for it to end.

Yes, count me as another person who was not exactly thrilled at this disjointed finale, it seemed like the Primeval production crew were suddenly running out of money and script. As flawed and over ambitious as the S2 finale was, at least that was better executed in most respects and tied up more plot threads.

Primevil has been cancelled so I guess we'll never find out what happens next outside of Fan Fics.
Primeval axed after three series

Primeval was shown on ITV1 on Saturday teatimes
Science fiction drama series Primeval has been axed after "three very successful series", ITV has confirmed.

Starring Ben Miller, Douglas Henshall, and ex-S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt, the show followed a group of scientists studying prehistoric creatures.

"High quality drama remains a key part of the ITV schedule, although our current focus is on post-watershed production," ITV said in a statement.

The show had an average audiences of about five million this year.

The figure was down from around six million for the first two series.

Earlier this year, ITV announced 600 job cuts and says it is now aiming to cut a further £40m in 2010.

Primeval may have suffered because of the big-budget computer effects needed to generate its fantastical creatures.

Website Total Sci-Fi said it had been told by a source that Primeval's production team were "devastated" but that they had "every intention of keeping Primeval alive in other ways".

Ha! So that's it?

Maybe if they'd made the finale more... erm... finale-like, they'd have more demand for a fourth season?

I disagree with much of what you say about Primeval, Woodlouse, but I agree the last episode was pretty underwhelming and full of 'Huh?!' moments. If Primeval carried on in that fashion throughout S4, I would've been glad to see be put out of its misery.
