So... That's it?

Man I am totally underwhelmed by the Japanistani reaction. I blow up their guys, and all they do is "more piracy". Sheesh.

There'll be more. Just remember, their reaction will be careful. They know war is coming, but they're not ready, and they want to try to do something to increase tension between MESS and CATO so the front against them is not united. A three-way war benefits Japanistan; a "one-at-a-time" war less so.... ideally, if MESS and CATO fight each other, all the better.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Well, whatever. Now that there's a multinational task force floating off the coast of Frequesue there's plenty of chance we'll catch them in the act another time. Let's see them talk their way out of that...

So as some notes:

The Carl Sagan quote is pulled directly from one of his essays from 1987 in Parade magazine and the September/October 1992 issue of the Planetary Report

The book it is "quoted" as being from is ficticious and entirely of my own creation for the purpose of doing the landing as a backwards narrative.

Some, though not all, of the lunar landing dialouge paticularly the last 10 lines or so is ripped almost whole from the actual landing transcript of Apollo 11.

The final quote is taken from Tolkien, as one might guess, specifically it is uttered by Elendil (stated but never heard directly) and Aragorn upon assumption of the throne at the end of Book VI Chapter V "The Steward and the King."

Bah. I figured you would when I remembered just how "big" the MESS is, in an industrial-economic sense.

Ryan, MSA and FASTA funding is actually roughly comparable. Hence why we played rock-paper-scissors to determine who'd land first.

Ah. That's what I'd originally thought. Then I'd figured, its the MESS; They're big enough that they'll be able to pull money and expertise out of their collective asses in a pinch and then actually be able to account for it later without their other industries suffering.

I mean, seriously. Four Imperiums? Wouldn't they utterly dwarf the United States economy at that size?

On an unrelated note, my cities and infrastructure is based around the concept of Urbanates. I just didn't realize that's what it was called at the time.

A fully assembled Selene spacecraft on its launch pad:

EDIT: Forgot to add. The spacecraft isn't mine (duh, like I could make one :P ), it's composed from third-party addons, most notably Kulch's Energia and CVEL Soyuz TMA.

Actually, we would have just shot an ASAT at the FASTA launch or something.

It certainly would have made things interesting, though. And yes, I was joking.

Frankly, who got to the moon first isn't a big deal. I'm pretty sure FASTA will be up there in a couple of months, if not sooner. And unlike OTL, I'm sure more will be done and there will be other "milestones" to be had (first moonbase, getting to Mars, etc.).

So yeah, who cares? Aside from some dickwagging/national(alliance) pride.

At the highest echelons of power? Sure. It's no biggie.

I'm wary of the depressing effect this will doubtless have on the whiny, snivelling masses, though. :P

Yes, the combined MESS (well ROB-Zone) GDP is roughly 28T against the US at 14T and the EU at 18T. However given that the ROB is probably the single most widely circulated currency (based on the proportional share of the world economy it holds) it has additional advantages much like the dollar in today's world. Thus the nominal GDP is, as above roughly 28T but the parity number would be higher by 1 to 2T.

Good news:

1) No massive world war so far

2) Frequesque underwent some major changes. San Dorado and Coilerburg formed the North Frequesquan
Trust, and brought Sabika, the Raj and possibly Miratia (unofficially) into its sphere of influence.

3) The SNC was reformed into CATO and expanded. Currently, Shroomania, the NFT, Zoria, Langley and Baerne are part of CATO or close partners.

4) We've finally landed on the Moon

Bad news:

1) Good news no. 3 caused a period of tensions, especially after Baerne invaded some craphole country, and Tian Xia jumped to its defence.

2) Karic is still at large, and has chemical weapons

3) Nuclear arms stocks continue to rise

4) A massive arms race is going on, with everybody ordering new ships, ground weapons, space fighters and other wacky stuff.

5) Japainstan is stirring up shit worldwide

I might've missed something/a lot :D

P.S.

Ryan, how's that texture coming? I pretty much have a Moon mission set up already :D

Maybe I will make the posts about the first space telescope launch tomorrow, or when I arrive in San Francisco and I have time to sit down and laze a bit. Boulder, CO is quite an interesting place. :D

BTW Siege, would you like to combine undersea exploration efforts? I was thinking of making a first test prototype undersea station but in a shallow water region before we dip into deeper waters.

You know, I feel pathetic saying this, but I'm having an unreasonable amount of difficulty motivating myself to get the first bit done (that is, trace the current world map. Mind you its a pixel by pixel thing, so maybe its not totally unreasonable that I'd have trouble motivating myself to do it...)

Once that's ready, getting the heightmap done isn't so hard.
