Civony/Evony - Anyone Try This Yet?

Post by Broomstick »

I keep seeing this thing called Civony, now Evony, advertised at the bottom of screen here on SD.net. I looked into a bit and my first impression is that it's a cross between Sim City and Warcraft I:Humans vs. Orcs.

Anyone try this yet? Just curious what people think of it.

Oh man, Warcraft I: Humans vs. Orcs! I remember in high school when Warcraft I:Humans vs. Orcs came out! How did they know they'd make a sequel back then? Blizzard rule!

The game looks like an MMO-ised Caesar. They're supporting it pretty heavily though, which is quite against the norm these days. There have been many of these 'run your silly town/planet and use dip to conquer stuff' MMOs in the past. It shouldn't be too hard to track down information on it, since it's just browser-based.

It's pay-for-money ingame, though.

Greatest subtitle to a game ever.

Personally, I love how they market Civony int he ads. It started with something like 'your queen awaits' and now borders on 'get yourself a blowjob from this hot young monarch'. Hilarious!

I considered starting a thread about how annoyingly obvious it is which demographic they're aiming for, with their
"Rule the world! Your queen is awaiting. 'My Lord' *picture of woman* "
ads, but now they're doing something else (well, not really), with: "Oh snap, your lover has been kidnapped. Help!"

Is this actually the story of the game?

I ran a test before - game appears to have no story. You also appear to need various items to do thing that real money.

You need speakers to type in world chat. 240 ebony cents per pack! That's about 40 cents US.

High school...? Oh, god - I feel so old now, I was past college and married.....!

Well, it wasn't numbered back then, it's only retroactively called "Warcraft I"

Should I point out answering your questions about a browser-based MMO took five minutes and you could have just done it yourself?

It's mostly fun for about a week at which point your protection fades and then you get raped by someone who's been playing since day 1 and has over a million troops and attacks multiple times per day.

Is that because he's stockpiled the '+25% kill mans' item that sells for 0.50 USD? :D

The mechanics of the game are utterly bald; it's like Mankind and it's ilk. The ads are hilarious in context though. Having to pay to use chat makes it more amusing people still cant' spell.

It probably helps. The only items I've used are the ones you get as rewards or as part of the daily lottery thing.

As for the chat, you're not missing out on anything, and alliance chat doesn't cost anything. Beginners do get to talk for free, though. Yay?

I want to say it reflects badly on Red Faction that you play a horrible 'free' MMO instead. :) This is pretty much as bad as those 'free' 'MMOs' on iphone that are all the same but vampire/knight/wizard/mafia/ghost/spaceship themed. :)

Should I point out that in the OP I stated that I had done some research? Did you read my OP? Have you played the game Evony? If you have, please let me know what it was like.

It's not a bad game to play at work. Takes like 5 minutes out of the day and then you get to look forward to the ruins of your city!

"Orcs v. Humans" was a really odd game to play for me, largely because I got it as part of some super-pack that came with Warcraft II and the Warcraft II expansion, and I had played the latter first. After that, going back to the first Warcraft, with its inability to group units and occasionally hard to interpret mission objectives, was . . . interesting, but very frustrating.
