That was great. And with that, I think normal V has returned.

I can't wait until 660. It would be hilarious if Xykon got his head blown off. Although odds are Xykon will start using that trick now as he is always looking for new ways to be a dick.

Re: The OotS thread
Seeing Xykon seriously worried was new. This development does mean that Xykon's end is almost gauranteed to be at the squiggly claws of the Snarl.

Aah. My edit window was gone. Anyway, the Raven lived which is good. Though it did look very battered.

Re: The OotS thread
Do we know that an object passing through the Rift means instant-annihilation? Or that it goes into Snarl-land and gets eaten only if the Snarl is made aware of there being something to unmake. Because if it's the latter, that means Xykon would be in trouble from the perspective of his phylactery still existing and thus not being something he could just replace, but by extension he'd also need to avoid having his body destroyed since reforming would likely alert the Snarl nicely and spell his permenant and irrevocable doom.
V and O-Chul are going to find out what Prisoner 1st Class is like, I suspect. Or maybe get turned into undead if Xykon is feeling particularly malicious. I'd be more inclined toward the former, though.
His phylactery getting eaten isn't likely to be an issue for it, though. The main problem is that Xykon doesn't have an easy means of getting it back, unless he's got a spell for tracking it down. And even then, getting it back will be a real bitch unless his body is destroyed. Even then, he'll have a bitch of a time getting it back where he wants it.

Re: The OotS thread
No, it's never been shown and the Bad Guys have no idea what going through the rift would do either. Heck, they don't know why the Snarl hasn't come out and started attacking people as it stands, which can either be ominous (the snarl has gotten smart and is biding its time) or good news (the snarl has settled down, and instead of being a destroyer of all things has instead gussied up its dimension real nice for entry into the "Parade of Transdimensional Homes" and is just waiting for visitors to show off its bric-a-brac) or anywhere in between.Napoleon the Clown wrote:Do we know that an object passing through the Rift means instant-annihilation?
That being said, while Xykon really lucked out. Now, if he gets killed and his army destroyed, he gets sent off to the Ocean/sewer and can lay low for quite some time until he's good and ready for Xykon Tries to Take Over the World Take II: Electric Bugaloo.

Re: The OotS thread
If anyone didn't notice it, I liked how the falling phylactery just happened to bounce off the eye of Redcloak's statue.
Personally, I think that this is going to let O-Chul and/or Vaarsuvius escape. Xykon can't afford the phylactery to drift off to who-knows-where and get potentially destroyed by some water monster or adventuring party. As for scrying it's location later; not only is it likely protected, but someone on the OOTS forums pointed out that Xykon had to call Redcloak just to find his keys, way back in #95. It would be just Burlew's style for that to have actually been foreshadowing and not a throwaway joke.

Re: The OotS thread
I think this is actually the cue for the Resistance to have pulled V and O-Chul out of there.
Re: The OotS thread
Hmm, maybe having a soul that close to his prison will get the Snarl's attention? Just enough to take a swipe at the Lich and scare the ligaments out of him

Aaaaand issue dodged.
Seriously though, fun arc. It's rare to see Xykon pissed off AND ineffectual. We also get more clues about the nature of Monster In The Dark.
Edit: Maybe. I haven't found an "Escape" spell yet though, so I might be barking up the wrong tree.

Aaaaand O-Chul's awesome Paladin role-playing pays off, big time. Good job, MitD.
Teleport Other or similar might be closer to what you're looking for, Sriad. I haven't looked at DnD for a long time, so that's a shot in the dark, but meh.

Re: The OotS thread
So either (a) the MitD has phenomenal cosmic powers in addition to incredible strength (and itty-bitty living space), or (b) something else just intervened. Given that Hinjo and the Order don't know that O'Chul is even alive, It's not likely to be them, even before you get to the question of how they could do it anyway.
Have a day.

Re: The OotS thread
Yea, it's just that characters almost always use a spell's name as it's somatic component in the comic. If it's a spell like ability that might not be the case, but I was hoping to find something like "Escape: Level 6 sorcerer spell etc".Lord Relvenous wrote:Teleport Other or similar might be closer to what you're looking for, Sriad. Yeah, I knew what you were getting at, but I couldn't remember any sort of Escape spell, either.
On the forums there are a few people throwing out Wish, which would fit what we see.

Re: The OotS thread
And with that, we see Xykon is perfectly willing to turn an opponent's head into goo if he's sufficiently pissed.
MitD may be a creature with Wish as a spell-like or supernatural ability, which would allow him to teleport V and O-Chul's sorry asses out of there. There's also the option of the two getting saved by an Epic caster, or the Cloister spell not covering the city anymore (least likely, IMO).
Transport travelers. A wish can lift one creature per caster level from anywhere on any plane and place those creatures anywhere else on any plane regardless of local conditions. An unwilling target gets a Will save to negate the effect, and spell resistance (if any) applies.
So, if we can figure out any creatures that have access to Wish as a spell-like or supernatural ability, we could narrow down the number of creatures the MitD could be. Or it could be a case of Teleportation Circle being used. Who knows?

Yeah I think for once everyone over thinking this, I'm sure there are creatures that can simply "will" things to be... He thinks "ESCAPE" and they are magically whisked away.

Yeah, I stared at that panel for a while going "Is Xykon's hand in O-Chul's mouth?" Man, that was actually pretty awesome for Xykon despite the fact that he didn't actually get to complete the kill. Also, he apparently failed his Listening check to hear what the MitD was saying. Let's hope the demon roaches don't sell him out.Ford Prefect wrote:Man, unleashing a meteor swarm in O-chuul's mouth? Re: The OotS thread
Hmm, option one, it was some form of summoning effect, which we know is a blatant loophole in the Cloister umbrella. Option two, MitD is epic enough to override the Cloister.
Regardless, Xykon should have gone after the phylactery then, rather than come back for revenge, he's immortal, so there's always time for revenge later. As it stands, he can either search by hand(or minions' hands anyway) or spend the time coming up with an Epic Scrying spell to overcome his own protections( not to mention the Cloister effects will also cover the phylactery until the duration expires).

Well, the fact we got a close up on the monster plus it seemed to me as if his eyes were glowing a bit (could justb e the close up) it seems he was responsible.
