So basically it might have been an older convicted felon (for robbery and kidnapping too), saying: "Hey kids, want to make money? Heres some guns, go rob this pharmacy while we wait in the car for you; and if you get caught; you're just juveniles; -- easy money!"

I think it's more to the point of simple police backside covering. Here you have an entire group of people going at it with crude clubs, so the arrest everyone and sit on them until they have the full story.

On another note, planks of wood, how cute, your going to rob me with planks of wood? Not even a pointed stick?

Or a piece of fresh fruit, which the victims ate -thus disarming the assailant.

You might be jumping the gun on the racism card. Another possibility is the fact that the kid was participating in an armed robbery that got Ersland sympathy from the DA. Unless you can show a history of this DA discriminating against african americans I don't see why it's reasonable to throw the race card out just because a minority was involved in a significant way.

Mostly likely it is because they put of those kids in the hospital. There is self defense and then there is hitting someone with enough force to cause a head injury.

Head injury are stupidly trivial todo, and frankly mean nothing for how much force was used. Just a lucky hit.

Hell, you can get worse head injuries from the fall and following impact than a punch to the head.

The police don't know this. What they do know is that when they showed up at the scene, there were people with golf clubs & 2x4's in their hands and people who were seriously injured enough to need ambulance rides. They don't know how it started, they don't know what happened, all they do know is that a bunch of people beat on each other with clubs and several of them now need hospital trips. Standard police procedure is to arrest everyone involved and hold them until the cops get things sorted out a bit, and in the meantime the people who got jailed can contact their lawyers and get out on bail.

Same thing happened to my wife when some jackass tried to mug her in a subway station a while back. She defended herself but put the perp in the hospital, the entire altercation was caught on security cam but the cops still arrested & charged her then stuffed her in the cruiser, and we had to bail her out later on. It's just the way things work. Unless the cops are there from the very beginning and they see everything, chances are everyone's getting a ride to the holding cells.
