Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
I'm about halfway through the game, and I just want to say that Hunters are crazy as. They can do positive shitloads of damage and tank it like there is no tomorrow. Maybe I'm just not very good at the game, but the missions have gone from 'moderately challenging' to 'jesus i am having a heart attack oh god the window has just about no health left just hold on for two seconds ragland'. The mission where you have eat Kim* was similar - oh yeah, hijack an APC. Easy. WRONG.
*First killed by RAAM, now by Mercer. Poor Lieutenant Kim.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
It's not so bad, given that you can just roll out of the way every time, but damn, they come flying out of absolutely nowhere to screw up vital consumes. The military is still the most dangerous, mind you. Day 8, where they have Apaches and UAV viral detectors is a fucking nightmare for base infiltration, and not even the mighty M1 can survive prolonged exposure to STRIKE PACKAGE GOLD. I may have accidentally transformed in full view of a base in the Hunter injection mission only for it to totally come alive and spew angry marines and their hardware onto the streets.
Still, the plot is pretty interesting. I feel compelled to unlock the Web of Intruige purely so I can learn more about the dirty dealings of Blackwatch and GenTek.
lol here comes the fanfiction

I've been really enjoying it. I find myself playing it like some kind of batshit insan-O stealth game.
Step 1 - sneak into base.
Step 2 - absorb dudes all stealthy like.
Step 3 - flip out and do super-attack inside the base and kill every motherfucker.
Step 4 - disguise again and walk back outside.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
I just, as in moments ago, stealthily killed everyone inside a military base using the Kill Everything With Tentacles move. Unleash tentacles >> switch to Alex >> Switch back to military dude before smoke clears >> stealth eat someone for CRITICAL MASS >> repeat. However, probably the coolest thing in the game was how it gave me the Blade and Armour powers FOR FREE. You get sexperience by the bucket loads, but a lot of the later upgrades cost shitloads anyway, so getting those without paying for them was nice.

Watched a friend play it, and a question: Is the Artillery Strike effective and pretty? To make a comparison, the Rocket strikes in the second level of Call of Duty 5. When I first used that shit, it was awesome. Then they let me do it all I wanted. To say I was happy was an understatement.

I have used artillery strikes never. you have to have a target for them to hit, ie a soldier, tank, building, etc. rather than just firing where you point, and since the targeting system is useless for that purpose (And often frustrating at times), the artillery strike is useless.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
I think I'm on day 4 right now. Just found Mercer's ex and she wants me to do a mission (the New Order). So I went sightseeing instead. Had a few strike teams called on me, but I've not seen one actually arrive yet due to my cunning 'run away' strategy. That said, given the response I was getting from the NYPD officers in the infected areas, I have to wonder whether it's standard procedure in event of horrible infection to punch clean through someone's chest and then schloop them; I have been standing next to these guys doing that and they don't so much as bat an eyelid. Oh well. We'll see how badly I get shot up after few more missions. That hunter fight was freaking annoying, I wager there's more of that crap ahead.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
I find it of great use when it comes to demolishing marine bases, and I once called it down in the middle of a big pitched battle betwen the military and Infected, which was pretty funny. Oops, friendly fire! Though the best part is definitely how whenever you call down a missile strike it sounds like Alex is just making shit up. Callsign is almighty, indeed.Chardok wrote:I have used artillery strikes never. you have to have a target for them to hit, ie a soldier, tank, building, etc. rather than just firing where you point, and since the targeting system is useless for that purpose (And often frustrating at times), the artillery strike is useless.
It could have been heaps better though.
Hunters go from being 'dangerous and threatening' (in the first battle with them) to 'often surprising but fairly simple to handle' to 'your worst nightmare' then finally to 'complete bitches'. Even four or five at once isn't all that difficult once you get Armor and Blades, though they're still good in a chase. That hunter fight was freaking annoying, I wager there's more of that crap ahead.

You mean the trivially easy, won't-happen-if-you'd-fail, can run up Walls without being discovered 'stealth'?weemadando wrote:I've been really enjoying it. I find myself playing it like some kind of batshit insan-O stealth game.

Bragging about being stealthy in a game where (detectors aside) there is no way to break stealth without deliberately punching someone is FUCKING SAD.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
Apparently one of story writers for this game also worked on Delta Green way back in the olden days, and there's a few members of the Arc Dream staff in the Web of Intrigue target list.
http://www.hplusmagazine.com/articles/a ... g%E2%80%9D
Dr. Shane Ivey and a Pvt. Detwiller among them.
Except in Delta Green you were fighting the government's men in black body armor as a soldier or a cop or a scientist. In this you're the thing that Man Was Not Meant To Know About. And it is glorious.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
Maybe you can explain why Mercer's attitude suddenly changes about 75% of the way through and he goes from 'heartless cunt out for revenge' to 'saint who only seeks to save civilians'.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
That's a pretty huge task. Maybe he regained some SAN at that point and suddenly didn't have "utter sociopathy" as one of his insanity flaws. Or about 25% of the game went missing, the 25% that was supposed to give him some sort of attitude change. Or maybe he was like "hey, I don't need to burn it all to the ground, I can dick them over in far more creative ways with my newfound 20 Ph. Ds in every subject known to man!"Stark wrote:Maybe you can explain why Mercer's attitude suddenly changes about 75% of the way through and he goes from 'heartless cunt out for revenge' to 'saint who only seeks to save civilians'.
It may have been because he thought Spoiler
, but I'm not sure if that was what they were going for. It would be awfully human for something like that to make someone decide "I need to atone, I need to stop this", but it doesn't quite make for good storytelling.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
There's an easy answer.
First 50% of game was written.
Last 25% of game was written.
Bridging section not written.
Rushed production = he just starts talking about protecting Manhattan (while mindlessly obeying orders from someone he doesn't even know when those orders will have a massively negative affect on the war effort even though he's a paranoid self-obsessed killer).

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
Yeah, weird, though, that he came to the conclusion he should save everyone after he found out HE WAS THE VIRUS AND NOT REALLY A PERSON. This seems backwards to me. He should have said "Oh, I'm not really a human, ergo conscience = gone. LOL I AM EVIL
Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
Or at least 'I'll save the island as a sideline to saving myself' and not 'make personal sacrifice to save a bunch of nobodys he has no connection to and simply casually runs down in a tank by the hundred'.
Oh and it turns out once he's gibbed he can come back to life pretty much from a single tentacle. Just like not in the game?

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
About 2/3rds of the way through the main story, and right now I'm just farming hives for easy XP. Chopper hijack = max chopper skill usually means 5-6 dead hives per run, and by this point there's a mess of them that just keep respawning over and and over again. Risk free and so easy. You can even take out hunters in their hot tubs to and from each hive.
I've noticed that there are lots of similarities here to the most recent Spider-Man game, Web of Shadows. In fact, the plot in many areas is nearly identical. You have a condition that lets you change shape, be stronger, tougher, lash out with claws and tentacles, you buy upgrades to your combat and movement abilities through experience points, New York City is being infested by some weird shit and somehow you're the only one who can stop it because of your innate connection to the weird shit, there's another dude with your weird shit running around and controlling all the other bad guys, there are hives turning regular people into weird shit monsters, which you can eat to regain health, and there's some big mystery to unlock.
Even some of the combat moves are identical, like the flying kick that creates movement from thin air. Welcome to Spider-Type: Web of Intrigue.
That said, it is pretty fun so far, though I've been playing it for free, I can't say I'd spend $60 on it.

Re: [PROTOTYPE]TM
Ahaha, oh wow. I very much like this game, but Jesus the missions can get ridiculous. There have been some cool ones mind you. I really liked the mission where you act as a Black Hawk pilot and do pick ups of soldiers, and the mission where you escort the Bloodtox truck is excellent - lots of mans all working together, you doing death from above, the truck is not effortlessly destroyed, well structured checkpoints etc. However they otherwise don't take huge advantage of the powers available, or are exercises in frustration, and the bosses can be considered terrible. The Supreme Hunter initially seems pretty fine, given that its easier to stagger him than normal Hunters but he does assloads of damage, but then he summons up his mates, and Blackwatch gets involved.
I'm currently fighting Elizabeth Greene. In principle she's simple enough; hit Critical Mass, get close, GROUNDSPIKE GRAVEYARD, repeat. In practice this is not remotely how it goes.

Simple, easy, and if you pick the right alleyways, safe.

I stole a tank once. Fifty BILLION Hunters rocked up and destroyed it before I could do any appreciable damage to Greene.

I'm done with this game - I cannot take it anymore. I'm literally bored with it. I'm ashamed for being excited about it at first - this is a last-gen title with subpar storyline, angsty subplot, and almost no variety in gameplay - I expect more from the people who gave me IH:UD.
But that only proves I'm retarded.

I ultimately decided not to buy it because after watching some video reviews and gameplay it just looks fucking boring. It looks like it's fun for about 2 hours and then the novelty of being The Thing quickly wears off once you realize their is nothing else to be had in the game. I've played games like this already and every time I regret having bought them.Chardok wrote:I'm done with this game - I cannot take it anymore. I'm literally bored with it.
