Mother of all Disaster Movies- 2012

Post by CaptainChewbacca »

Link to the official site

They finally did it. They put EVERY SINGLE NATURAL DISASTER into one movie. Let me go down the list:

Tidal Waves? Check.
Meteor Impacts? Check.
Earthquakes? Check.
California falling into the ocean? Double-check!
Volcanos Erupting? Check!
SUPER-Volcanos Erupting? You bet your sweet ass!

Movie Trailer

It looks like they're doing a near-miss with a 'nemesis'-type object passing throuhg our solar system. I'm hopeful, though, because there's no scientist trying to STOP anything, it's just John Cusack trying to keep his family together.

Obligatory comment:

"Hey, they made the premise of Rifts into a movie!"

My prediction is that it will be something fun to watch so long as you can turn your mind off. It has the added benefit of John Cusack. It's hard to ruin something when you've got John Cusack in your corner.

I agree. I was watching, thinking 'oh, not again' when suddenly CUSACK!

Looks like it might be fun. Hey An An-225 Cossack. Although, that doesn't look like the Kennedy, it looks like a Nimitz (no exhaust stack that I could see). The cast looks like it might work too - We've got Danny Glover as President, Oliver Platt playing his Chief of Staff, John Billingsly (SG1: The Other Guys, Ent [Phlox]), as a Doctor, and Chiwetel Ejiofor [The Operative from Serenity].

The makers of this movie have a horrible track record littered with big budget special effects laden stinkers. That's exactly what this looks like. I'll pass.

Godzill and 10,000 BC are Emmerich's only films that i'd truly call terrible to be honest.

Day After Tomorrow, Independance Day and Stargate are more than watchable.

Watchable? Maybe. Worth a movie ticket? I don't think so. Stargate, I haven't seen, but the others are all dis-liked movies of mine.

Star gate and independence day are barely in the same league as Day After Tomorrow, especially Star gate

Personally I'd rate Stargate and Independance Day higher than Day After Tomorrow, but they aren't really the same genre so there is fair amount of personal taste in that assessment.

That's fair enough, Stargate and Independance Day came out when I was quite young still so they fit into the "awesome" category due to the big explosions and aliens. Day After Tomorrow I watched just a few weeks ago, I kinda wished I had gone to see it in the cinema, as disaster flicks go I enjoyed it.

Yeah, I can understand that. Disaster movies are made for the movie theater. Huge screens and incredibly loud sound potentials really add to the experience.

I'd have a hard time getting past my hatred for the "2012 is the end of the world! Guaranteed!" crowd with this one, even if I wasn't dubious of its producers, though.

oOOOoooh! The effects look epic! Even if the movie sucks, I'll go watch it in theaters just for the spectacle. I'm half wishing they released it in 3D.

All right, this trailer sold me. Initially I was in the "goddammit not another 2012 piece of crap" camp but it looks like they're just going for an excuse to blow up the earth instead of some Da Vinci Code bullshit and I can get behind that.

So basically this movies is equal parts 'Deep Impact" as well as "The Day after Tomorrow" but on CRACK. I mean sure, we joke about California falling into the ocean, but well, they actually HAVE California FALLING into the Ocean (can't wait to hear the explanation for THAT) Not to mention it looks like we are actually going to have a "Noah Arc" thing going on (Exactly how fast I wonder are they going to try and convince us those Ships were built...)

So yeah, this movie looks like its going to be up there with "The Core" in terms of bad science, but ewho cares! it also looks Epic in its hilarity!

And a bit of Volcano for good measure.

I think the website says 30 years.

Really, this movie sounds like someone ripped the plot of Clive Cussler's Atlantis Found.

Taken at face value, the trailer on its own makes me think Hollywood finally got that modern remake of When Worlds Collide off the ground in the form of this film.

Not sure what's worse: this film, or the four or five cheap knock-offs of it that will soon be polluting the SciFi network lineup in about two months or so.

Wow, you're right. That didn't even occur to me. So do you think the uber-powerful 4th Reich will made an appearance in this one too?

Actually... Impact, the cutting-edge ABC summer miniseries about the moon being hit by an asteroid, which causes it's orbit to deteriorate, starts this Sunday.

Nah, this movie doesn't look like there's any sort of conspiracy or bad guys, I think it's just man versus chaos.

The Mayans were not Earth's earliest civilisation. They could have just wikied the information, but I have a feeling they weren't striving for accuracy here. Oh. Just like the rest of the movie!

I'll probably rent it.

Eh, 'earliest civilization' is so far a throwaway line for the trailer... At this stage.

I love disaster movies, love seeing famous shit getting blown up, however unlikely... USS Kennedy slamming into the White House? What are the odds? I don't give a fuck! Here's my $14.50!
