Yeah, people like to forgive others for honest apologies. However, these are still the people extorting their values and their morals as superior to the 'other side' so I doubt his prospects for higher office are nil. I'm sure there are still plenty to vote for him locally but not much more.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

Sanford Admits Extramarital Affair
Posted by Brian Montopoli
South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, whose mysterious disappearance last Thursday prompted national headlines, acknowledged this afternoon that he had an extramarital affair.
"I've been unfaithful to my wife, and I developed a relationship with what started as a dear, dear friend from Argentina," he said.
Sanford said he would resign as chair of the Republican Governor's Association.
"I've let down a lot of people," he added. "That's the bottom line."
Sanford's office initially explained Sanford's disappearance from the state by saying the governor was hiking on the Appalachian Trail.
His communications director, Joel Sawyer, said on Tuesday morning that he had spoken to the governor, who was returning from his trip and had been taken aback by the interest in the story. Sawyer did not indicate then that Sanford had been in Argentina, leaving the Appalachian Trail story in place.
This morning, however, the Republican governor said he had considered going hiking as a break after the state legislative session, but then changed his mind at the last minute. Upon arriving at the airport, he told The State newspaper that he had been in Buenos Aires.
Sanford is the latest American politician to become embroiled in a sex scandal. Recent examples include Sens. John Ensign, David Vitter and Larry Craig and Gov. Elliot Spitzer.
He asked this afternoon for a "zone of privacy," if not for himself than for his family.
Also, he didn't answer whether or not he is going to resign as governor or not.

Everyone ought to be reminded that Sanford voted to impeach Clinton in '98 while representing South Carolina in the House.

But remember, it was bad when Clinton did it because he lied about it to a court. It's okay if you're just lying to your wife.erik_t wrote:Everyone ought to be reminded that Sanford voted to impeach Clinton in '98 while representing South Carolina in the House.

However, from a moral stand-point, doesn't make him any less of a hypocrite.

I'll be damned, I still can't find a transcript of this nonsense.
As to the (D) Fox has yet again put up on the screen when it's a Republican, has Fox News ever addressed what is clearly a pattern of mis-identifying the party of the joker du jour when it comes to scandals?

Not to my knowledge. What's staggering about it in this instance is that they're trying it even though Stanford has consistently been in the news for months because of what a staunch conservative he is. Fox News was going on and on about what a HERO REPUBLICAN he was and now they expect no one will notice? You'd think even their own viewers would find that at least mildly insulting.FSTargetDrone wrote:I'll be damned, I still can't find a transcript of this nonsense.

Or
They are grossly incompetent and simply do not fact check important graphic
Either way they simply cannot be taken seriously as any sort of news agency (something we;ve all known for years) If this trend of turning (R)'s into (D)'s happened more randomly, then maybe it could be incompetence. but as far as I know, the past list of Republican congressmen and officials have almost a 100% rate of suddenly (if briefly) becoming "(D)'s This tends to lead one to think it is being done on purpose (which it probably is) and if THAT is the case, well isn;t there some sort of legale thing you coould charge them for? Willfully being an ass or something?
I've met people who see the "D" just long enough to think its true (usually die hard fox watchers) and never bother checking up when it eventually switches to back to an "R"

Headed down the drain? Those ambitions existed only in Sanford's tiny mind. He's now the lead-off joke on Letterman, Colbert, Stewart, O'Brien and Maher and if shit-for-brains ever gets it in his airflo-head to ever actually attempt a run at the GOP nomination, he gets put on the joke circuit again and that takes care of Sanford.FSTargetDrone wrote:He's tendering his resignation as chairman from the Republican Governor's Association.

Re: South Carolina's Governor Sanford Admits Extramarital Affair
"Ya alls." <snicker>
I have no doubt that the (D) was wholly intentional. I was just wondering if anyone ever called them on it and if it was responded to. There is definitely a pattern of this (not to mention the "magic Negro" lower third chyron nonsense involving Obama some time back).
He sure did talk about the Argentine mistress a lot, eh?
Looks like the governor's wife is pretty much through with him too, if what they are saying on Hardball is right. Good for her.
Anyway, this moron needs to be tossed from office right now for carrying on an affair that had him leave the country and shirk his duties for days at a time. Yes, Clinton had an affair, but at least he had the sense to stay in town (bad as it was with respect to it being a low thing to do to his wife and daughter) and not wander off for nearly a week with people not knowing where he was.
Excuses and excuses from Sanford. Woe, woe is him, with his crocodile tears. Fuck that. Him and all those other philanderers who come out crying for forgiveness while their families get to go through a public humiliation. I hope Sanford's wife takes him to the cleaners in any divorce proceedings.

Re: South Carolina's Governor Sanford Admits Extramarital Affair
A South Carolina newspaper has published what it purports to be as some of the e-mails between Sanford and his special Argentine friend:
Posted on Wed, Jun. 24, 2009
Exclusive: E-mails between Sanford, woman
Woman in affair declines interview
By JOHN O’CONNOR -- Read the full e-mail exchange in Thursday's edition of The State.
Below are excerpts of e-mails, obtained by The State newspaper in December, between Gov. Mark Sanford's personal e-mail account and Maria, a woman in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The State has removed the woman's full name and other personal details, including her address, e-mail address and children's names.
Sanford's office Wednesday did not dispute the authenticity of the emails.
McClatchy special correspondent Angeles Mase visited the 14-story apartment building in Buenos Aires Wednesday where the woman lives, according to the emails, which included her address. The woman at the address answered to the name in the emails and, at first, agreed to speak to a visitor, but she declined after the visitor identified herself as a reporter.
The doorman at the building, shown a photograph of Sanford, said he did not recognize him. According to the doorman, the woman has two sons, one a teenager of driving age and the other younger. The emails refer to the woman's two sons.

From Gov. Sanford,
Date: Thursday, July 10, 2008, 12:24 a.m.
“One, tomorrow leave at 5 a.m. for New York and meetings. Will think about you on its streets and wish I was going to be there later in the month when you are there. Tomorrow night back to Philadelphia for the start of the National Governor's Conference through the weekend. Back to Columbia for Tuesday and then on Wednesday, as I think I had told you, taking the family to China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand and then back through Hong Kong on world wind tour. Few days home then to Bahamas for 5 days on a friend’s boat for the last break of the summer. The following weekend have been asked to spend it out in Aspen, Colorado with McCain - which has kicked up the whole VP talk all over again in the press back home ...
Two, mutual feelings .... You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ...
Three and finally, while all the things above are all too true - at the same time we are in a hopelessly - or as you put it impossible - or how about combine and simply say hopelessly impossible situation of love. How in the world this lightening strike snuck up on us I am still not quite sure. As I have said to you before I certainly had a special feeling about you from the first time we met, but these feelings were contained and I genuinely enjoyed our special friendship and the comparing of all too many personal notes ...
Lastly I also suspect I feel a little vulnerable because this is ground I have never certainly never covered before - so if you have pearls of wisdom on how we figure all this out please let me know... In the meantime please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.”
--------------------
From Maria,
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 8:14 p.m.
“As I told you I shouldn't have done this trip but I would have felt worst if I wouldn't have come because it was too over the date, he is a very nice guy, great heart ... but unfortunately I am not in love with him ... You are my love ... something hard to believe even for myself as it's also a kind of impossible love, not only because of distance but situation. Sometimes you don't choose things, they just happen... I can't redirect my feelings and I am very happy with mine towards you.”
--------------------
From Gov. Sanford,
Tuesday, July 8, 1:42 a.m.
“Got back an hour ago to civilization and am now in Columbia after what was for me a glorious break from reality down at the farm. No phones ringing and tangible evidence of a day's labors. Though I have started every day by 6 this morning woke at 4:30, I guess since my body knew it was the last day, and I went out and ran the excavator with lights until the sun came up. To me, and I suspect no one else on earth, there is something wonderful about listening to country music playing in the cab, air conditioner running, the hum of a huge diesel engine in the back ground, the tranquillity that comes with being in a virtual wilderness of trees and marsh, the day breaking and vibrant pink coming alive in the morning clouds - and getting to build something with each scoop of dirt.”

Re: South Carolina's Governor Sanford Admits Extramarital Affair
And now ladies and gentlemen, a word from the peanut gallery curtosy of Fox news.
I LOVE this way of thinking, totally hypocritical, one sided, and completely un-apologetic, perfectly Republican in my mindMy advice to Gov. Sanford is to keep on keeping on, not resign from anything, not cry in public, and not grovel to the public, the media or his political opponents.
I would urge him to walk tall, hold his head up, smile and always act like nothing happened. In fact, without saying a word he should simply carry himself like he's a stud.
Don't give the public or the press the satisfaction of taking you down. Phuck them all.
Americans do not deserve anyone's honor or fidelity. They are scum.
You did not drive your girlfriend into a river and run away from her while she drowned, like Ted Kennedy, a popular icon of the left and one of the most reelected senior senators in the country.
You did not betray your country and ally yourself with the enemy, like John Kerry did during the Vietnam War.
You didn't molest many women like Bill Clinton, a darling of the left.
You did not conduct a homosexual affair with a higher up in the Fannie Mae-Freddie Mac like Barney Frank, who is proud that he had a homosexual prostitution ring being run out of his apartment by his homosexual lover.
Americans love their murderers, cowards, traitors, sellouts and con men. There is no need to apologize to Americans. Instead, you look them in their beady eyes, grab their pointy ears, and you say to them that you're going no where and that, by God, they have no choice but to love and vote for you.
Keep on keeping on, bro.

Re: South Carolina's Governor Sanford Admits Extramarital Affair
As I started looking for all the examples of the republican politicians, mouth-pieces, and hacks doing the same or worse, I lost heart. Googling "List of Republican Scandals" was a great way to end my craptastic day. Suffice to say, it wouldn't have been hard to find information on republican scandals, it would have to hard to decide which scandals to include...You did not drive your girlfriend into a river and run away from her while she drowned, like Ted Kennedy, a popular icon of the left and one of the most reelected senior senators in the country.
Onto the thread subject...
Sanford "going hiking" on the same weekend that National Hiking Day falls within is icing on the cake.

To criticize a person for their race is manifestly irrational and ridiculous, but to criticize their religion, that is a right. That is a freedom. The freedom to criticize ideas, any ideas - even if they are sincerely held beliefs - is one of the fundamental freedoms of society. A law which attempts to say you can criticize and ridicule ideas as long as they are not religious ideas is a very peculiar law indeed. -Rowan Atkinson
