Thank you Langley, if the other people offering me hardware can also name their prices, I'd be quite happy. :D

Don't forget, he also tried to kill you and me. What a bastard.

Bringing Karic back strikes me as another attempt at rejuvenating the STGOD now that the Old Dominion-NFT situation has been allowed to fizzle.

Well perhaps there are multiple Karic's now; you can kill the man but the name will live on!

Seriously though I still have many plot lines to run and one of them is just getting started.

These things always tend to fizzle...until the next incident at which point you get the whole heap dumped back on top of everyone.

Anyway in the meantime I'm still racing 'zook to get the most folks in space permanently which means lots of launches and eventually really cool space stations with semi-permanent habitation. All of which reminds me that we're gonna start testing HiVOLT to see about clearing some of the Van Allen belt so we can put folks in higher longer term orbits safely.

It's been planned since January, at least! Possibly even longer! By Siege and I!

EDIT:

Bluewolf, you can buy all sorts of Shroomanian stuff (minus strategic bombers and nuclear missile subs) including aircraft carriers! We can assume a by-installment payment plan so that Cialan can pay for all the stuff its bought without much hassle, and not immediately at once (which would be veyr expensive!).

Cialan doesn't seem to need carriers par se, but it definetely needs a powerful coastal navy. Perhaps we could arrange the sale of some reasonably modern frigates and missile destroyers for them, as well as loads of patrol craft.

Shroomania will be selling its destroyers and cruisers as they're getting replaced by the Coalitions, Constellations and Contradictions. :)

BLUEWOLF: [Shroomania can sell six CATO-standardized Arleigh Burke destroyers.]

I will say this: If you buy Burke's from Shroom then you would have to wait 2-3 years for them to get ordered, built, outfitted, and sent through sea trials...or you could buy my Burke's that are sitting retired prepatory to mothballing which means they are fully outfitted and ready for deliery in the time it takes to strip any classified gear, fuel the thing and sail it to you. Oh yes and if he is sellign them to you new then you'd pay for the short production run which means each ship would cost roughly $1.1-1.2 Bn (based on the estimated cost of restarting the Burke line for the USN).

Laser propelled rocket. Into orbit. Groundwork for this was laid in Feb. Amounts to 4 years worth of work to get an entirely marginal amount of payload to orbit. Right now it's largely limited by the amount of power that can be directed onto the rocket. Multiple laser chains are used, with multiple lasers per chain, to bring the laser power required into the realm of believability.

From where? The KDX-IIIs? Dude you've got 28 which still comprise 95% of your active destroyer force. I've got 10 sitting around doingnothing and myremaining 22 already represent less than 45% of mine and will be completely replaced by 2022. You may have some handy but I've got surpluses just hanging around begging to be sold off.

I plan to mothball them as the new ships come in. Not to mention, I have to send the crewmen for retraining nearly a year before the new ships arrive? I have 11 Ticons which were mothballed years ago. I do not plan to expand my navy but to keep it at the same size and enough recruitment to cater to new requirements and to replace attrited personnel.

DUDE! The Burkes (and TICOS!) I'm selling are ALREADY EXISTING barely used ones already serving in the Sovereignty's Navy, that are being replaced and outphased by new Shroomanian ships!

My Burkes are not new - but since Shroomania has really taken care of its navy well, it means that the Burkes (and TICOS!) are in pretty much mint condition, not too-used at all.

Hell, if Bluewolf wants to, the Burkes and Ticos he can buy from me can keep their original (AWESOME) Shroomanian Navy names. Like "SSS WHORES WHORES WHORES" or something.

BLUEWOLF:

We are also selling stealth aircraft and SAM systems and tanks and all sorts of shit - and since we're massively updating our military forces and modernizing them, you can totally purchase pre-owned systems on the cheap. Just check our OOBs and enquire as to what kind of mean-ass weapon you want to buy, and we can give you an awesome answer.

Ticos, Arleigh Burkes, even non-nuclear carriers (I sold one in the past), submarines, tanks, planes, guns, cruise missiles, etc.

Which would put you in essentially the same place, proportionally, as 'Fin. You've got 6 total of your new vessel class. Even if you are replacing on a 1 to 1 basis and not increasing fleet size (which is likely) then you've got 6 total vessels available between Ticos and Burkes. I've got 17 sitting around doing nothing right now and I'll be adding 3 more CGs and 3 more DDGs per year like clockwork until all 59 are retired.

In other words I can offer much lower pricing thanks to volume.

I think one must consider the fact that you already paid for the ships at some fixed amount, probably around a billion, and lowering it merely makes it a bigger loss....

Except that I paid a couple hundred million 20-25 years ago (based on the $720mil Flight II Burke cost and NOT the production restart cost of $1.1Bn Flight II Burke) and I've already decided to write them off as retired/mothballed. The ONLY loss I would incur is if I sold them for less than scrap value. Everything else is money in the bank that I'd already written off as depreciation.

As with any capital asset once you buy it the money is gone. Arguing about loss of value for capital assets is foolish because they exist and are paid for (excepting things bought on credit) so unless the assets were purchased with the expectation of rise in value any normal accounting would understand that once the assets are paid for its a sunk cost that does not and CANNOT affect future bottom lines. The loss in value of the Burkes over their lifetime has 0 effect on my annual budgeting and thus I could sell them for $.01 and that would be $.01 in positive cash flow for the budget year in which it occurs.

*Edit* The same argument you make, however, applies equally to your own forces and I have more available ships on which to spread any per-unit loss.
