FO3 360 vs. PS3
Is there a difference? I just wonder if the PS3 version is the same as the 360 but with graphics turned up to ZOMG. Please answer then a mod may lockificate - not that they need permission.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
If you want amped up graphics, I'd suggest the PC version. I don't think there's any practical difference in the PS3 one, as it is.

The PS3 version gets DLC later than the 360.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
I'll have to recommend the PC version as well seeing as one of the strong points of Bethesda's RPGs since TESIII:Morrowind is the mod community, which you simply won't get on the consoles. Not to mention the fact that even if you don't have ZOMG PC hardware now, you probably will (or at least what is ZOMG for Fallout 3) in the future. An example would be a body mod, not necessary but generally adds to the immersion factor much better than Beth's generally shitty body models (at least this has been the case Morrowind and Oblivion), not to mention all the actual gameplay changing mods.
I would assume the PS3 would have better graphics than the 360 given the hardware, though that is not necessarily a given and really depends on the developer and their priorities with regards to what amounts to a port. You may want to wait a few months if you can, as I heard somewhere they will release a game of the year edition in October that contains all the DLC, and thus would be the complete Fallout 3 experience (since there are no traditional expansions planned to my knowledge). In the end it's your call, though if you don't like the market place prices/market place system it may be worth waiting.

Lol at answer to 'what's the difference between 360 and ps3 versions' being 'omg get on pc'. Remember in English class, that thing about answering the question?
Chards is there any reason to assume the ps3 version looks better? It -does- look like shit on 360, but I'm not aware of any cross-platform stuff that's notably better on ps3. Indeed, many pc ports suck on ps3 because it's easier to port to360.

That's a crappy example, since most body mods are all about adding tits and vaginas modelled with photorealistic resolution in several different body styles, to satisfy the discerning consumerWing Commander MAD wrote:An example would be a body mod, not necessary but generally adds to the immersion factor much better than Beth's generally shitty body models (at least this has been the case Morrowind and Oblivion), not to mention all the actual gameplay changing mods.

Do *not* under any circumstances buy the PS3 version of Fallout 3. Their is no anti aliasing whatsoever and the graphical bugs are abysmal, and present from the moment you load up the game. You can see tears, jaggies, and even get to expect low frame rates.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
My understanding, from queries to friends who own said game on the different systems, is that the PS3 offers marginally worse graphics, but that the difference is small enough that you may as well chalk it up to which system offers more comfortable controllers.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

I would get it for 360, when the GOTY edition comes out around xmas.

A better example would be the tons of weapon mods, balancing mods, and of course, additional content mods.PeZook wrote:

Pezook: It's not a great example given, however, is it wrong to want females to have different body proportions than simply males with breasts?Cpl Kendall wrote:A better example would be the tons of weapon mods, balancing mods, and of course, additional content mods.A better example would be the tons of weapon mods, balancing mods, and of course, additional content mods.PeZook wrote:

Cpl Kendall: It occurred to me to bring up things like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO), though I stuck with something that is readily apparrent. Then again, an overhaul of a game to fix all the mistakes Bethsoft made like level scaling enemies everywhere (completely removing the whole experience of running away from a cave or ruins as fast as possible to avoid certain death in Morrowind), I guess classifies as readily apparent as well. I guess I just didn't want too seem to geeky, which is odd as I normally embrace it .
Stark: Maybe we recommend the PC version because in general console versions of PC games that tend to live via the mod community (which most recent Bethesda RPGs do), are inherintenly neutered versions of the game and generally are not worth the $60-$70 tag the consoles versions ask for compared to their $50 or less PC kin. If you don't have a PC capable of running it at all, that is another thing and reason enough to limit yourself to the console. Seeing as that was never explicitly stated, I see no reason to recommend the inherrently supperior and cheaper product as an alternative. Then again if you weren't crumuginly and disliked/complained about everyrthing I'd be worried .

To be honest when a person ask for Jello or pudding, one doesn't go CAKE!!!. It does a bit of disservice to the question and person.
As such, go for the 360 version, Chard. It is better, and the PS3 gets downloads later.

Lol at people getting weepy and trying to look tech noir when someone points out they totally failed to answer the question. More red herrings plz.
With regard to the ps3, it seems chards has fallen for the 'better hardware' stuff. I was just reading about console sacred 2, and once again the ps3 version has worse performance. With ports from pc I guess the increased hardware difference really hurts it - although to me burnout paradise looks better on ps3.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
The framework for the PS3 and Xbox 360 is fundamentally quite different this time around. It's not like in 2001-2005 where both consoles ran on similar design philosophies. From what i've heard it's WAAAAY harder this Gen to develop multi platform titles, especially for the PS3, because its architecture is incredibly complex even if it looks more impressive on paper.
This means that developers really have to put "emphasis" on a single version of the game this time around. Multi platform titles are still worth selling on both systems, but you can only really afford to "develope" for one or the other, and then adapt what you've made to the console you didn't consider your primary release platform.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
Are there any ps3 games that showcase the superior hardware, though? From what I've seen the hardware complexity totally wastes any superiority in hardware it might have. Burnout looks a little better (mainly colurs and framerate) but nothing else has made me think 'oooo cellprocessor'.
Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
Killzone 2 is probably the best showcase of the hardware, there are some really good environmental effects, particularly in it's lighting.
Pity the game's the definition of blandly forgettable.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
I was also going to say Killzone 2. But KZ2 also spent years in development for the PS3 and is ultimately a pretty typical if competent shooter.
And of course, it's also got terrible color design and goes for the bog-standard Hollywood wargrimdark.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
Its worth mentionng that the 360 equivalent (Gizza) is built on a cross-platform engine which is possible due to the off-the-shelf nature of the 360. Its interesting to speculate how much time is saved by hardware simplicity/commonality, particularly given the 360s hardware is a bit ru bush these days.

Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
Perhaps the bright side is we'll get better games with less cross platform focus. I seem to remember that there were some games that suffered last generation due to being cross platform (I can't remember any specific examples though). Maybe Sony will be able to turn out something exclusive that's descently attractive for me to be enticed to pick a PS3 up one of these days. I wouldn't mind owning one myself, but the only things for it that seem even remotely attractive are God of War 3 and Metal Gear Solid (although I didn't find MGS2 that great and never played MGS:Snake Eater) and I am certainly not shelling out that kinda money for two titles.
I guess lacking graphical improvements on the PS3 you may want to go with whichever platform's controller layout you find most comfortable, depending on how you feel about the DLC.

cool, thanks for the input, guys. I'm afraid it's moot, as my 360 RROD'd LITERALLY the day after I got my PiSs3, so...I will prorbably wait for the goty edition with all the DLC and just get it for PC.
Thanks again!

Also if you are not oppposed to the Digital Distrobution system, Fallout 3 is 50% off on Steam this weekend.Chardok wrote:cool, thanks for the input, guys. Re: FO3 360 vs. PS3
I thought that MGS 4 and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune both did a good job at pushing the PS3. Granted that was at the time of those games' release and KZ2 surpasses them in regards to visual quality, at least concerning characters (KZ2 is very bland in the color department).Stark wrote:Are there any ps3 games that showcase the superior hardware, though? I think, just from a weird experience of my own, if you leave the power block unplugged for a long while it does that for a few minutes when you turn the whole thing on again. I don't know why. It happened when I got mine back, it seemed to be like that for a minute or two and then it worked fine.
