Longbeard Kuja hefts his battered old combi-drill-pick-hammer, now with a shiny new rune axe extension and a mounted bazooka (ancestors alone knew where he got ahold of that mod).

"Ratmen! Oi, it just hadda be ratmen, didn'ta? Ah hate ratmen - tha lil buggers like ta scratch all through mah beautfiul minin' tunnels an' ruin tha good work! They don't fight fair neither, not like good dwarfs do. Nah, they come at ya ten-a one an' run away if'n ya can't pin 'em down!"

Kuja brings his axe down on a nearby table and splits it in half, flipping a coin at the bartender before the man bothers to protest.

"Clean Cup - pfagh! They'll be up to their dirty lil snouts in tricks an' treachery, mark mah words!"

Hefts a mug of Bugman's and drinks it down.

"Ahh...tha's tha stuff."
Rockin'. Go dig a gigantic hole in a mountain so I can put some goddamn DOORS on that motherfucker.
*belch* "Oh aye...Ah took a walk 'round tha' lil hill o'er there this mornin'. She's no real mountain, but she'll do sure 'nuff."

Kuja waves at a nearby snow-capped peak, now hollowed out with a main entrance and six or seven smaller ways in and out, all readily defensible.

"Ah hit a vein'a silver an'a coule'a iron taps, so there be more'n enuff t'get tha doors goin'."

"But.. but.. they're kind of cute..."

The allegations that Starglider had not insisted on doing his deep tunnel monster patrols alone because of incredible bravery, but in fact to facilitate an interspecies affair with a female ratling, were (thankfully) never substantiated. However they placed no small part in his rapid, nigh shameful departure from Palelabor and assignment to the most dangerous position in the blood bowl team. ;)

Goddamned lack of edit function in G&C...

I apologise in advance for iffy picture quality, not sure if it's the screenshots lacking a filter or something.

First Half
Palelabor Kicking

First match of their illustrious career. What legends would be told of this day in generations to come? Truly legends are the least these fine dwarves deserve.

The referee's whistle blew, and UC Booties kicked the ball. The Palelabor Pickaxes then showed what they were made of! Without even waiting for the ball to cross the line, they immediately started wading into the thick of it.

Image

Kuja launched straight into the Skaven right wing, flattening a Gutter Runner. Across the line the Pickaxes advanced, smashing their lightly armoured opponents into the ground.

This advance meant that by the time the ball had actually landed from the kick off, they had already pushed beyond it. UC Booties ran up behind and scooped up the same ball he had kicked down field! He then stuck to the edge of the field, protected by his fellow dwarves.

Image

Not giving up so easily, the Skaven threw a hasty defence in front of the dwarven charge. Were the dwarves to pay for their headlong maneuver?

HELLS NO.

Image

Image

The one thing Blood Bowl fans like to see more than players beating on each other is to get the opportunity to do it themselves! A few gentle shoves from the dwarven team and two of the Skaven players were set upon by the fans!

UCBooties crosses the line with the ball!
Image

First Half
Palelabor Kicking

The fans weren't content just to bash the two Skaven players who'd been knocked off field, so another Skaven player fell victim to the ire of the crowd - a thrown rock from the stands took one out before the next kickoff.

Image

This kickoff was more conventional. Palelabor kicked the ball into the opposition's half, then the Skaven team grabbed the ball and prepared for their offensive. One Gutter Runner slipped through the Dwarven lines to end up in their backfield. This could be a major problem for the team if left unchecked as he could easily recieve a pass from the Skaven Thrower and then score a quick touchdown.

Image

Image

Not if Ford Prefect could help it. He and UCBooties teamed up and took the Gutter Runner down, the impact actually killing the ratkin outright.

An enormous melee then broke out, Troll Slayer Starglider delivering frenzied retribution ably assisted my too many Blockers to name individually, while Kuja threatened the Skaven ball carrier.

Image

This so scared the Razorclaws player so much he headed back to the middle of the field.

Where he met GROINSTAB BALLCRUSHER.

In a bad way.

Image

KAPOW. LIGHTS OUT.

Ford Prefect happily wandered over to get the now-loose ball.

Image

WHOOPS. Didn't want that ball anyway.

A Skaven player then attacked Ford Prefect, but the headbutt knocked them both out. When he got back on his feet he went for the ball again.

Image

He barely manages to pick it up. It's spikey and probably slick with blood, so let's cut him a little slack. Also, half time was called at this point. His fumble cost him and the team a touchdown.

Image

Look at that injury box. The Skaven team is in a world of hurt, and it is only going to get worse.

HALF TIME SHOW

Is just me talking about stuffs.

I may have to scale this back to weekly, even something as simple as taking screenshots, picking the good ones, cropping them and uploading them is taking longer than I anticipated. But enough whinging.

I've learned now that you can displayer player names above the heads by pressing N - I'll make sure to do that in my next game so you can see which dwarves you are.

I CANNAE PICK UP THE WEE BALL

Double teaming a Skaven with UC so hard that the guy died is in its own way completely hilarious. Especially given we're playing football.

First Half
Palelabor Receiving

As the players walk out onto the field for the second half of the event it becomes apparent that the Skaven team is now in a poor position. Only eight players are standing, three short of the maximum 11 players that a team can have on the field at a time.

The Skrits Razorclaws will have to make the maximum use out of their superior agility if they are to have any hope of clawing back a victory. Is it far from inconceivable - the score is only 1-0 in the Palelabor Pickaxes' favor.

Things do not get off to a good start for the ratmen, however. Their kicker screws up and the ball lands off the field, meaning the Dwarf team gets to start with posession. It is given to White Haven on the Pickaxe's left flank.

Image

The Razorclaws quickly throw up a wall of rats to try to stop the slow Blocker from walking upfield.

Image

Image

The problem with trying to stop a Dwarf advancing is they tend to keep moving anyway. White Haven tucked the bull under his arm and smashed his way through the lines, resulting in...

Image

First Half (Turn 12/16)
Palelabor Kicking

The Palelabor Pickaxes drive the ball into the close field and the Skaven move it across to the right. Groinstab Ballcrusher blitzes forward and gets ready to threaten the ball carrier. Excited at the prospect of another touchdown, Ford Prefect runs as fast as he can towards the right wing.

Image

And trips.

Starglider rushes over and puts another ratman into the injury box.

Image

Not to be outdone, Groinstab Ballcrusher does the same.

The Skaven ball carrier finds himself alone.

White Haven headbutts him and he drops the ball.

Ford Prefect runs up. It's the second to last turn. He picks up the loose ball and carries it over the line.

Match Result
Palelabor Pickaxes 3 - Skritz Razorclaws 0

Earned: 40 000 GP
We had possession of the ball 49% of the time.
We caused 5 tackles, four KOs, four casualties, and one death.

Ford Prefect earned enough Star Player Points to reach Level 2 and obtained the Leader skill, which gives the team a re-roll but only if Ford is on the field.

Nice to see myself living up to my conservation of energy (lazy bugger) approach to life. None of that tiring fighting for me, just a gentle push and let the crowd do the hard work.

What, no fouls? Groinstab is most heartily displeased.

Oh well, he undoubtedly went over to the injury box to administer some superfluous kickings to the recumbent ratmen after the match.

How is the AI in this game, if I may ask? I've been hearing a lot of conflicting reports. Those who have played the original tabletop game seem to think it's quite good, but the "hardcore gamers" I've spoken to have been saying it's poor. Is there a difference between how it handles in turn-based and real-time modes?

Yes! A head of best use as a battering ram! EAT IT, RATBOYS!

And now, we must combine three things: Dwarfs, victory, and the Bugman's sponsorship. The results should be obvious, and the collateral damage should be epic.

Don't be daft. What ya really need is t' be getting some wine and cooking it till it's a braw, gummy resin - almost like a biscuit. Then ya smear it all aboot yer hands. Then when ya score a touchdown, ye'll have sommat right there t' be celebratin' wit!

Next Match: Bugman's Best vs Palelabor Pickaxes

Dwarf mirror match.

This could get a little rough.

Ford Prefect has undergone additional training and has temporarily gained a point of agility for this match.

This LP convinced me to ignore the steep price and get the game. And it was definitely money well spent. Maybe we should start an online SD league if enough people get it.

Anyway, sign me up for a a spare if/when you expand the team. For any position left.

I'd go for it except they left out a heap of good teams. No Undead, High Elves, Dark Elves, Norse, Halfling, Chaos Dwarves etc. And that's without getting into the really obscure teams.

At least there are Goblins though, so I can potentially recreate the richest, most popular and over-staffed team in the history of Blood Bowl - Little Green Funk. A goblin team I played with a retardedly low attrition rate and a fan factor that guaranteed sellouts at every single game, even if it was being held in a goddamn Lustrian death-temple. They had more money than they knew what to do with (I ended up bankrolling other teams in the league because I just had nothing left to spend it on), every single possible recruit, trainer, cheerleader, inciter-to-violence and troll was accounted for (except for special weapons which were banned under this leagues rules). And it was nothing but awesome all day long.

Speaking of which - what ruleset does this follow? Latest LRB or is it custom one to make it more Vidja Game friendly?
